Saudis will increase oil output by 300,000 barrels a day

Saudi Arabia announced Friday that it will boost oil production by about 300,000 barrels a day to meet increased demand from customers next month. The announcement came after President Bush met with Saudi King Abdullah to appeal for help in bringing down oil prices that are hitting record highs.

The Saudi increase is a modest one and appeared unlikely to have much effect on crude oil prices. But with the president under pressure at home to show he is fighting to lower gas prices, the gesture gave Bush a face-saving benefit from a day-long meeting with Saudi leaders.

In a news conference after the meeting, Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi said the increase went into effect Saturday and would raise output to 9.45 million barrels a day in June.

  • I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that this doesn't make any significant difference in the price of gas.

  • not as long as we are shipping 400,000 barrels per day of distillate out every month, just when that number should be dropping.

the major cause for this spike in export demand...

Fuel for generators. Is it NUTS. Seems like it to me, but then again I am not the one shipping it out and I am not the one buying it either.

  • What's the exchange rate between dollars and doughnuts these days? It's about $8.50 = 1 maple bar, right? Ha ha!

  • ...and we're pumping 70 million tons of CO2 into the stratosphere each day. This doesn't help, but maybe higher oil prices will (?)

  • What is the CO2 emission data for portable fuel generators for power outages?

In rural areas this maybe solar backup power that has not been maintained due to the lack of trained support.

  • I'm working on my trapezoid muscles so that I can grow the wings Currentkid mentioned...great idea. Until then, gonna have to stick with riding my bicycle everywhere. At least the fuel I use tastes good!

  • nothing changes with regard to the environment until we have a real change in leadership. that does not happen without concern for working and rural America.

    from a diary written recently...

Conservative value voters are a long way from being sold on Obama, even while they feel pinched by global trade, a soft housing market and high gas prices. But Republicans have to hold these voters to have any chance in 2008
