On June 3, 2008, Californian's will decide the fate of rent control in a special election. Whether the elimination of rent control is a good thing or a disaster in the waiting is a matter of debate and at the heart of two competing propositions, 98 and 99.

As a viewer I'd say this is a well executed and balanced take on the issue. As a renter, I'm going to send it to friends so we can spread the word, get out the vote and defeat props 98 and 99.

California voters should watch this before they go to the polls on June 3rd. I'm glad I saw this before I filled out my absentee ballot!
p.s. I can't believe that guy is paying $350 for rent in SF! -
Wow, another video. You are on fire Mr Mathews!
I like the way you give both sides in this video and the voice over sounds great. Also, adore Mr Potter and his cute, art-filled apartment.
Go California, make the right decision!-

Travis,
I'm really happy you were able to get both sides to this story--as an SF Renter myself, I must admit this one hit close to HOME... but I'm happy I learned about the opposing position) -
Fantastic piece. Keep up the good work.

Hey, I live in San Juan Capistrano in a mobile home park that is terraced & is very private with trees. We have had the park change hands of owner several times. It is not fair, our current situation. Advanced Management company bought all the land around us & is trying to push us out of here so they (Rick Julian) can build million dollar homes. Well we have lived here for 50 years, our rent is already over $1000, plus we have a mortgage. We are fighting to be able to buy the park & force our city council to make them sell to us, we have 11mil preapproved loan plus they City is putting up 2mil to close escrow if they will sell.
If this law passes, they will jack up our rent to $2000 & not sell to us, no possible chance. I have nowhere to go, I lost my job & the market is tough, even with my old job I barely make enough to pay to live here as it is!! Please vote NO on BOTH 98 & 99, they try to trick you to think you are voting for something good, but it will put old people on the streets & make sick people homeless. I have cancer, but am in remission, there are a million people like me. VOTE NO PLEASE-
