Here are the seven biggest misuses of texting - read carefully because I too believe text messaging has taken too high of a role in human interaction.

  • Love this one. Having text fights is the worst, when someone will not talk, and insists on volleying messages back and forth. The entire context gets twisted. Texting while in the presence of another with whom you are supposed to be spending one- on -one time with is simply unacceptable. It is akin to telling that person that they are unimportant, that their time is not important, and that there is someone else who deserves the attention of the "texter". There is nothing more obnoxious than being mid-conversation with someone who busts out their phone, and it is as if the words coming out of your mouth are floating into space...

  • that is true people just text for anything and everything now. their is no way that im going to date threw texting thats just asking for a dysfunctional relationship.

  • Right on. I keep telling people that it is a unreliable, asynchronous mode of communication that shouldn't be used for many, many things, and if you do use it, don't expect a response in real-time.

  • Definitely true, but I live in Japan. I can't stand texting, but women here love it. I can't convey all my feelings on a small phone keyboard.

  • Just another form of communication, which is good. BUUUUUT! It sucks when a person is all emotional and sends a text that might have let a little "too much" SENSITIVE ish out. Or when stuff is taken out of context! TEXT FIGHT! OOOH MAN!

    Not like a voicemail which one can listen to how much of an A$$ one sounds like then have the option to delete and save themselves. Ahhh deleting options; the perfect shrink!
    AAAAAnd that makes every "texter" an accomplished text chief editor, with the clearing, pacing, watching of spellings (txt styl), deadlines, because they or we rather all understand that ALL TEXTS ARE FINAL!

    but i do like texting, allows me room to say that my service effed up and my response to a text, after I find out someone was really offended by a "no reply," was three days late. And the saving of texts for future use of making a person eat their words!

  • totally agree with Swizzle2. it's a shame that we as humans have stooped so low to text our significant other. the sweetness of your lovers voice has been lost in smiley faces and phone grafics.... tis a shame

  • This all seems like common sense to me. However, I guess you could say that people don't seem to understand the fundamentals of communication anymore. Texting and online chatting has taken over, without anyone realizing that it is hindering our ability to communicate.
