  • Mine is Time. Same album tho....gotta love that whole re-enactment of the Wizard of Oz they did. hehe

Follow the link, to my cover version of Time. I did the whole thing in my studio. Enjoy!
  • Time is a great song too and you did a fantastic cover of it. Thanks so much for the link!

  • Very Good Jan! I am remembering listening to this song in my studio when I was painting these "live public park" series. There were always a group of friends visiting and crashing for hours there. Ha! Fun times!

  • wonderful growing up with this album. I remember the day my friend brought it into school when it was released.

  • Pink Floyd........enjoyment.........thanks Jan..........

  • Yes, Dark Side Of The Moon. I was just starting high school then and my friend brought it over to my house. But back then we listened to it because we liked the sound... now I appreciate the meaning behind the songs more because I've lived some.

  • Here they are singing Brain Damaged/Eclipse.

  • What decade is it?

Pink Floyd was great. The songs still warrant listening to, but...as news?

    "No."

[swatting at you with a rolled up newspaper.]

You may want to investigate the Alan Parson's Project in relation to Pink Floyd; that will be news. Not to me, but news worthy to almost everyone else. No clue? Go find out.

  • You're welcome. Nice to think of good memories.
    JanforGore
  • Who tagged this as news? There is an entire category here of music videos. Anyway, it's better than half the crap we see about Britney Spears or "Hannah Montana" that is called "news" but isn't. At least this was music.
    JanforGore
  • Sorry there, lass. Thought you were talkin' about it as news.

Did you research Alan Parsons Project (APP). You'll find that Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is almost 100% ripped off from APP. That's news.
    kramericus
  • I think your research is a bit off since Dark Side of the Moon was recorded in 1973 and the Alan Parson Project wasn't formed until 1975.

The most obvious fact left out was "Also notably, the Project never played live during its career. This was due to the fact that Woolfson and Parsons saw themselves mainly in the roles of writing and production, and also for technical difficulties of reproducing on stage the complex instrumentation used in studio."

Pink Floyd toured all the time, I saw at least 4 of their shows and they didn't play the songs the same way, they had enough talent to improvise.

"Most of the Project's titles, especially the early work, share common traits (likely influenced by Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, on which Parsons was the audio engineer in 1973)"

So just being involved with some of the techniques used to produce it doesn't mean that they had any anything to do with the creative content.

That's like saying the Jimi Hendrix ripped off Fender just because he made his guitar!

I love both bands but that's a pretty lame accusation not worthy of either of them.

  • Right you are Argon18.

However, the mere fact that the litigious Roger Waters hasn't sued Parson speaks volumes as to who relied upon whom.

    kramericus
  • Why would he have any reason to? I never heard Alan Parsons making that claim. I folowed them from their 1st album and never heard a word about that.

You're the only one making that accusation, maybe Roger Waters should sue you for slander? Since you've only provided inuendo and not even the simplest reasons for it

Roger Waters may have had a reason to sue Rick Wright, but that probably was more about "creative differences" that go to making lot of bands break up.

It has nothing at all to do with Alan Parson.
    Argon18
  • I could play a random chord progression, and deliver it as 'new'...I *promise* it won't sound original to someone.

I seriously doubt they did it on purpose. Maybe something was in the air they both took in -- I do think there are larger forces at work -- and delivered a message greater than the sum of parts.

Still....David Gilmour is still out there kicking ass, and I would sell you my toe for an audience with the man.

I was just noodling on my Strat this morning, and found myself eerily close to "Pride and Joy" Please don't sue me. Its just in the water here in Austin.

Jan, thanks for the nod on my "Time" cover....I did the entire solo in one take, and it was one of those rare moments where I just channeled through. It was magical, despite being a cover. I have original material that I am going to pass through Current for your dining pleasure as well. Check my profile link for "Low Down..." and tell me what you think of it.
  • Oh yeah...Here we go! Awesome. I've never heard the music theory and progressive building upon previous generations of music argument. Let me get my stale popcorn and Pabst Blue Ribbon out before we get started, eh?

Argon18 illuminated the chronology which, when Roger Waters' legal history is applied, proves my point.
    kramericus
  • It only proves the point that you're making several logical fallacies does nothing to support any argument that neither bands had ever made.

What does the Fallacy of Accident, the Fallacy of False Cause and Begging the question prove other than you have had too much Pabst Blue Ribbon?

Roger Water's trouble with the other members of Pink Floyd proves nothing at all since Alan Parsons has nothing to do with that.

With those fallacies you might as well argue that your popcorn ripped off your great amercian novel, they would hold just as much weight and be just as valid.
    Argon18
  • Small penis or something? Why the angst? Actually, don't bother, we already know.

Good list of Logic101 stuff though...
    kramericus
  • Shame you can't avoid any of the pitfalls on that list isn't it?

Especially with the projection of traits onto others, I had no problem with either Pink Floyd or Alan Parson since I've always loved both their music.

I wasn't the one that made such specious and unfounded accusations so you would be better served to look into the reasons for your own angst since must be something that prompts you to wildly distort the facts.

Must be inbreeding for the lack of cognitive development if all you can resort to is personal attacks.

Too bad you've been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool
    Argon18
  • Projection of traits, nah...straight up ad hominem. Get your fallacies straight. Or is ED a problem for you too?
    kramericus
  • You did the 1st before the 2nd and several others besides. None of which provides any support for your point at all so why continue with it?

I guess you got nothing better to do since your main talent for drooling can only take up so much time
    Argon18
  • This song was meant to be listen and to be enjoyed by triggering our memories to the Past and its good lyrics.

Kramericus, I know you can talk all you want but you have to recognize that you lost the argument! What about cooling off? Argon will have the last Word! Would be good for you to stop! Seems like a good move to do! By the way your sexist remarks on the previous post was not very nice!
    stopnoise
  • No, 'laddie,' it wasn't supposed to be 'news.' It was posted as a music video that people of like mind could enjoy. Hopefully, that original thought will be the main focus again instead of your rude remarks.
    JanforGore
  • Pink Floyd is one of my all time favorite bands. Alan Parsons Project is also one of all time favorites.

I love the feelings and memories their songs evoked.

This song is awesome, but my favorite song is "Comfortably Numb".

"There is no pain you are receding, like distant ships lost on the horizon, you are only coming through in waves, your lips move but I can't hear what you say....I - I have become, comfortably numb. Hello, hello is there anybody in there?....." You know the song.
    jubal
  • AAAHHHH!!! Refreshing! A song is a song is a song! Listen to what you are all saying here and then just listen to the song. It's good to just listen sometimes and not analyze.
    cibalin
  • my first song of the day..thanks for the post Jan...one of my all time faves...p€@ç€
