This story is interesting because the Electric Horse(tm) prototype was built in Nelson Britsh Columbia in 2003. SInce then I have a US patent pending that will finally be examined by USPTO this summer. In this day and age of $4 a gallon gasoline, I have contacted many electric bike manufatures in the USA. Their products are no match for my production prototype design, which is much better looking than the prototype I ride almost every day. Yes their are regulations limiting road use of electric bikes to a geriatric disgrase compared to the techinolgy I have proven. Beside the fact that my bike design can be sold to off road enthusiasts with full power capabilities, the computer controller I use can also be programmed to meet the SS-SUV oil barron restrictions that are killing the electric bike. I'm looking for a partner or investors to get this product to market as soon as possible. I am spent and disappointed in our cruel greed based corporate slime system that only invests in war and oil. If I had a Machiny's Hand Book and access to a CAD-CAM program I could have the specs on the Electric Horse(tm) ready to send to the manufacturers in two weeks. http://home.centurytel.net/local-ideas/

  • anger is good fuel
  • I think I less angry and more disapointed in the top economic carnavours of my homo sapeins species. People who truly want to do good things for our species and planet are side lined by power tripping money grabbers. Over 50% of our government's expenses go to war and a great deal of that goes to war profiteers. About 50% of medical expenses goes to administrative costs, which means to CEOs, board members and stock holders for doing nothing but grabbing money. Philo Farnsworth invented the TV and he died relatively broke while RCA CEOs made millions. How many of the top 1% of the money earners do anything for the good of mankind or our planet?

  • So does the bike charge when you pedal? Do you have to plug it in? I'm not sure what makes it so different than other electric bikes... just wondering! :)

  • Hi KosterK7:

The Electric Horse uses a controller that does have regenerative breaking capabilities so if you are going down hill it will charge. Yes, you could also feasibly pedal hard enough to move and also be charging the batteries. Every action requires an opposite and equal reaction. Yes, you plug it in and it costs about 7 cents to charge and it goes 10 miles on that, so it gets .7 cents electricity per mile.

Most if not all electric bike makers hook the motor up in direct drive single speed configurations. Electric motors do have a wider power band than IC gasoline motors, but the efficiency drops off quite quicky when you try to draw force from them far from thier free wheeling speed.

In other words you would not take a Skill(tm) saw, circular blade hand saw and butt it up to the wood and then turn it on because it would over heat and burn up. Another example of the Electric Horse advantage based on addition of a gear box to the drive train is understandable when you consider that human powered bikes have gears and gasoline powered bike have gears, yet all the rocket scientists who make electric bikes think that an electric motor powered bike does not need a transmission. That is why none of them can climb a 30 degree grade and still go 30 mph, without pedaling. The prototype I built uses a gasoline motorcycle transmission, which works but is basically a boat achor compared to the transmission I have designed and patented specifically for electric bikes.

I hope this answers your questions. Thank you very much for your interest in my work.

    Ken.
