New Village Academy will lead the world in identifying innovative learning styles, educational best practices and the ingredients for enduring prosperity.” This quote is from the Vision Statement of the new school being funded and founded by Will Smith. Some of the “innovative learning styles” are Montessori, the Constructivist Model, and L. Ron Hubbard Study Tech, among others.
Study Tech was “developed” by L. Ron Hubbard and is used worldwide by the Church of Scientology. It is also promoted by a group called Applied Scholastics, a known Scientology front group. It combines common sense with learning techniques that have been around since the dawn of language, and gift wraps it in a shiny new package — with only 4% of the total income as the cost.
New Village Academy, along with using the Study Tech, as well as promoting L. Ron Hubbard on their Glossary page, has 6 staff members who have been confirmed to have studied Scientology. A post at the Operation Clambake Message Boards listed that Andrea Beckham, Sigrid Burket, Tasia Jones, James Oliver, Marcia Perkins, and Sisu Raiken have all taken Scientology courses between 1990 and 2006 (using the Scientology Service Completions tool from the Truth About Scientology website).

Maybe the world is doomed, but maybe this will lead us to a higher level of education full of open-mindedness, intelligence, kindness, intelligence, caring, and intelligence.
Or not.-

The fate of mankind was hanging on Will Smith?
This isn't worthy of acknowledging as news.
And...does the world need ANOTHER religion?-

It's more US and THEM bullshit.
It's just another school for "groups of small people to make themselves even smaller groups of people by excluding others."

At least he is doing something to educate people, the majority of wealthy people do not use their wealth to help the less fortunate. When they do the public often has a backlash against them (Angelina and Madonna adopting kids for expmple). I am glad Will Smith is doing something that he believes in that will help people.

WILL:
You poor, unfortunate kid. Here, learn this complete and utter bullshit.
WILL hands KID a Scientology book.
POOR UNFORTUNATE KID:
Thanks Will!
WILL turns and walks away looking fulfilled.
POOR UNFORTUNATE KID:
At least I can sell this for some crack and forget about that asshole for a while.
KID goes to pawn shop to sell the godforsaken book.
POOR UNFORTUNATE KID:
Hey, how much is this book worth?
PAWN SHOP MANAGER:
Nothing.-

Why is he doing this? Unlike Tom Cruise, Smith still has an acting career!

The Church Scientology (is there a hole I can get sick in?) probably asked him to do it since he's clean, decent and has popularity and they need Distraction and Deflection.
What's really sad is both he and Cruise are GREAT actors.
They should listen to their predecessors advice...

Wow so I guess these days celebrities sell out to endorse Scientology instead of a host of crappy products.

Cult or Church? Lines are quite thin....

urgh! what are any of you people doing to improve the state of our school system besides sit behind a computer and comment on the lives of others taking action.
If you didn't notice the article clearly states
New Village Academy will lead the world in identifying innovative learning styles, educational best practices and the ingredients for enduring prosperity.” This quote is from the Vision Statement of the new school being funded and founded by Will Smith. AMOUNG OTHERS. Applied Scholastics isn't the only study technology being provided. Kids will apparently be exposed to other learning options as stated in this article.
Which is a great improvement, all people learn differently so the more tools to learn with the better.
And most of these comments are so ignorant i bet non of you have even looked into what steps each of the learning options provide for kids and what are the rates for success when study tecnology is applied.
Good for Will Smith at least he's doing something.
