Does anyone else see a conflict of interest?
P.S.This won't be looked into, because Gore owns "Current T.V."

Great. I hope he invests more. Let him show that
environmentalism and capitalism can go hand in hand. After all the right wingers whine about a supposed contradiction all the time.
Not that cnsnews.com has any credibility but whatever. -
No conflict... the conflict would be for him to short the old oil companies or something.
-
I don't see a problem. He sees the need for change and invests in it. I would be suspicious if he didn't. Why would anyone need to investigate? It's all there for people to see. Investing in something you believe in is not a crime.

In our world, the ideas and the money must be present to bring about any action or change. Burning fossil fuels may be cheaper for the time being (in contrast with alt fuel sources), but then it will run out and we will be left with nothing. The time to invest in climate change is now. We need to stop procrastinating.
-
The conflict is that he is promoting it, and profiting from it.

Love that picture. Thanks.
And let's see... he has donated the proceeds from his movie and books to a good cause... He has donated his Nobel prize money to a good cause... He has donated his salary from his venture capitalist firm to a good cause... a sustainable planet. He started Current TV to give you a voice... he starts The Climate Project which is now in at least four countries to teach people about climate change. He starts The Alliance for Climate Protection to bring awareness of this crisis to those getting nothing but propaganda from oil companies that announce BILLIONS IN PROFITS from despoiling this planet based on propaganda while much of his money goes into the cause of his life because it means that much to him. Yes, how despicable.
The man gives 25 years of his life to politics to make people see the urgency of what this planet and our species and others' face, and has now devoted his life to it. How do you expect these technologies to get to market unless people invest in them? The government certainly isn't going to do it with the BILLIONS in taxpayer dollars they hand over to coal, oil, and nuclear lobbies. He is using his own money to bring awareness to the people enmasse. Nothing wrong with that. Sorry then, your argument holds absolutely no water and cannot even compare to the billions being raked in by coal, oil, nuclear.
Do you have the same problem with those promoting war and profiting from it? Especially since this "war " is based on LIES, and the effects we are now seeing from climate change are based on scientific truth? It is one thing to rip people off by profiting from a lie. Quite another to use your money for the good of the world. So what exactly is your problem? -
"The conflict is that he is promoting it, and profiting from it."
1. Show me the evidence that he himself is profiting from it. In case you missed it he is using that money for more promotion. Good for him. It's not that you are willing to do it so he has to.
2. Even if he used that money to increase his own living standard that would be a conflict for hypocrites like you who preach about the wonders of the free market but trash environmentalists who use that very same market to build a greener economy.
If Gore can make money in this business (by risking his own money first by the way) that's because many other capitalists recognize that there is a demand for alternative energy and no free market fundamentalist can have a valuable argument against that.
All you have is hypocrisy. -
The man does get around, more so than the better most of us. I believe he stands for a better future, lets not forget we all have to make a living. It's not to upsetting watching him make a few investments. We will keep tabs on him, we'll see what he spawns.

i don't see the conflict either, especially in the deregulated, super capitalist, anything goes as long as the profits keep coming in at the expense of the consumers & laborers u.s.

"the profits keep coming in at the expense of the consumers & laborers u.s."
I'd like to see how much profit in the green energy business is coming "at the expense of the consumers & laborers u.s.".
Especially compared to the fossil fuel industry.

if I had money I would invest it in GREEN, it's the way of the future!!
i mean, if we want one... ;)-

this is nothing new, patriotic austronaut
we all know this
it's nothing to be ashamed of, silly -
You are all so naive. Al Gore the gangster is trying to save the planet. He knows that is going to take more money than he has. So he invests in the technology that he believes will save it, trying to make more money to help save it. It's an obvious scheme. No one will investigate it, not even Current.

To anyone who has a problem with this it's called putting your money where your mouth is. I would have a problem if Al Gore owned Chevron Stock or was trying to buy leases to drill in the Artic. He isn't he is investing his money in issues that he believes will aid the environment. Where did this notion that he shouldn't profit from it come from? Sounds unAmerican to me, aren't we supposed to be capitalists? In fact I would be more insulted if Al Gore was not invested in these companies.
