This is a shocking video of modern day genocide being commited by the church, the corporations, and government, today in the country of Canada. Unless you watch this, you wouild never believe that this is happening today, in our neighboring county. I love Canada. I love the land and the people, but after watching this shocking report of atrocities that are taking place today,I have no illusions about the government there, especially the government/church/ and corporation allianceMost media outlets around he world, have caved into pressure about the viewing of the horrible trith, and the revelations of the ongoings of the church. I can only hope that current.com does not fall prey to the same tactics. For those of us that seek truth in everything that we encounter today, this a must see video, and please pass it on.

And how about some of the bad things that African Americans have done? Why do you keep blaming the so called white establishment for all of your life's problems?
What about Paul Kagame? An african who temporarily lived in the U.S. and trained with the military, only to go back to Rwanda and be involved in a massive genocide killing millions of people?

I'm French. I'm a minority in North America. Maybe I should go around crying like you until I'm bitter and old. The english are going to wipe me out. Waa waa waa. We used to dominate North America, but the english killed us. Boo hoo, everyone feel sorry for me.
Just please tell me you're voting for Obama because he's a good candidate, and not for the mere fact that he's black.

As for the Vietnam war, that garbage didn't happen in Canada. It was taking all of the draft dodgers and giving them jobs.

First of all, if you guys re-read the quote, It says 350 million. Canada's national GDP is only 1.1 trillion.
Secondly, Keith Ponder, You keep trashing our government for covering it up. It was the CHURCH!!!! I repeat..... CHURCH!!!! Who tried to cover it up. There was a separation of church and state you know!!!
Thirdly, the last minister of Indian affairs, Rob Nault, did try to put incentives in place for aboriginals to have more fiscally responsible means of spending their money given by the government. The aboriginals started to dislike him and he lost support from the aboriginal community and the liberal party was forced to replace him. Since, the conservatives have replaced the liberal party, and are still fighting for the reserves to spend tax dollars more responsibly. Chiefs are being fired left and right, some reserves are having their tax dollars benefits reduced, etc etc.
And finally, the comment I made was in relation to police brutality and racism amongst cops and the public. I am not a hypocrit. The RCMP, although they've had scandals, for the most part don't have too many cases of police brutality on their hands. The O.P.P. also has a good record. They developed what's called "Treaty 3" police to specially police the reserves. This force is a combination of white and aboriginal police officers who are trained to be sensitive to aboriginal issues.
Infact, the RCMP is always teased by Americans for being so called "Dudley do-rights".

Sounds like large sums of money went to undeserving third parties, who took advantage of the situation to fill their own coffures...as usual, when large sums of money are involved, there seems to be way too much secrecy as to where the money actually went...350 billion buys a lot of escallades...probably enough to bail out GM, Chrysler, and Ford, all at once...something does not add up...way too much mystery here...

I remember hearing about this on my visit to Victoria. I was shocked and appalled.
The main thing for me is where did all the $350 Million dollars go. Just to make up an advertising campaign and mediation foundation bureaucracy to educate people and counsel them doesn't seem like much of a solution to me.
I read the part about the tribal elders driving Escalades while the people are stuck in third world poverty, then what I say to that is; the government was irresponsible in giving that much money without assuring that most of it ended up in the pockets of the people who were hurt by the tragedy. They could have established incentives for people to receive the money through grants and such. Not just hand over a huge check to a few elders and say I am sorry.
That is just throwing money at a problem and hoping it will go away; swept under the rug, as Keith here is trying to stop from happening by posting this piece.
One thing I should say in Canada's defense is that at least in British Columbia, they are focusing on honoring the "First Peoples" of Canada by emphasizing their culture and preserving it for all to see in their museums and films they show at the Omnimax theater; I wonder if this is funded by some of that $350 Million? hmmm

No one is trying to stop you from doing this piece. But maybe you should get your facts straight.
Telling on my own kind? How lame. That's just an ad hominem attack. Very childish.
Here's an ad hominem attack for you. Americans started residential schools. If you want to focus on the very root of the problem, maybe you should take a look at yourselves. It even says so in your article. Here's another ad hominem attack. Most of the world's genocide happens in Africa.
Maybe that's why ABC, CBS, NBC, etc are too busy ingoring Canada. They are too busy focusing on their own residential school problem.

These murders, in the name of God, are, in the very least, horrific..!
Jesus, knowing he was aboout to be beaten, abused in the worst ways, and then crucified, kept his composure in his last hours and said to his adveraries " I don't want to win you in a war"...
He's still trying to promote non-hostile means for dealing with the problematic situations of the world...2,000 years later...
How do these people come up with the justification for this modern day genocide in concert with the church..? As the guy says, the precepts of Christ have been perverted beyond belief...Fortunately, this type of evil, as is witnessed by this video, is being exposed to the rest of the world...
This is the 'Information Age'... and Current TV is a major engine propelling the force...I love Current...
Thanks for digging this up, Keith...

P.S. Can you even name the capital of Canada without googling it Mr. Ponder?
You claim you love the people and the land. Have you even been to Canada??? (Cynical Air)
Residential Schools are all closed! We are now just sweeping up the after math. As I said before,
" In 1969, after years of sharing power with churches, the DIA took sole control of the residential school system.[5]
In the 1990s, it was revealed that many students at residential schools were subjected to severe physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as outright murder by teachers and school officials. Several prominent court cases led to large monetary payments from the federal government and churches to former students of residential schools.
In 1998, the government made a Statement of Reconciliation – including an apology to those people who were sexually or physically abused while attending residential schools – and established the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. The Foundation was provided $350 million to fund community-based healing projects focusing on addressing the legacy of Indian residential schools. ."

I learned about this in grade 6 history. Learn your world Affairs! There is actual events that happen outside of Atlanta! Its been a well known problem. You can you-tube it. CBC has been doing reports on this issue since the beginning of time. Jean Chrétien signed the Indian act in 1970. As I said before, Americans, especially in recent times, are not known to be the greatest in knowing what's going on outside their borders.

As well... In Canada, this is in fact old news. The problem is that most Americans ignore us most of the time as we pose no major threat to them. Ask how many Americans can name the capital of Canada. You'd be suprised. Pierre Trudeau is the one who brought forth changes in the 1970's.

There's one clip, although I can't find it, where George Bush thought our Prime Minister was Monsieur Poutine!

Well in response...the bulk of the murders did in fact happen in the 1940's. Residential schools did have their problems, and I don't intend to hide that.
They were taught mostly by british immigrants who felt it was their duty to spread britishness among Canada during the earlier days of the dominion out of fear that Canada would side with Americans. I actually went to ruins of a residential school growing up. It was one of the last ones in Canada to be shut down. It was shut down in the 1970's during the Trudeau era (one of my heroes by the way!) Jean Chrétien was the minister of Indian affairs at that time (who also became a great prime minister).
Secondly, I have watched the film, and I don't believe all of the facts are completely accurate. Many European settlers depended on the aboriginal tribes for survival durilng the harsh winters. The aboriginals taught the settlers how to build snow shoes to walk in the deep snow, showed them how to survive in -40 degree weather, how to tap trees for maple syrup, and which berries to eat to survive through winter. Many europeans died themselves of plagues through living in close quarters and sharing blankets. I don't believe that all of the diseases passed on to the aboriginals were intentional. Most europeans were ignorant of medical practices. Heck, 100 years earlier, before they mention that the settlers were spreading their diseases with blankets, some 300 million europeans died of the bubonic plague in 1330.
As for the priest and trying to build relations with the aboriginals in British Columbia, that is a tricky problem. The only thing I can say (but its kind of a copp out) is that the bulk of the Canadian population say they belong to a religion, but they don't actively go to church, so they would not agree with the church to begin with. Canada was founded mostly upon Europeans who were religiously persecuted for their beliefs. One of my grandfather's ancestry originates in France, and was persecuted for being protestant when the rest of France was Catholic. Much of the population is like myself (in a general sense that there ancestors were also persecuted) and don't have a strong affiliation to any church. This is one big cultural difference to that of the United states. (Which is why I almost think this film was made by an American)
Finally in self defense, it was a problem that originated centuries ago, and we are still seeing the aftermath today. In response to you Mr. Ponder, it wasn't a government cover up, as they are the ones who acknowledged the problem in 1990 and has given billions (and I literally mean billions) of dollars in restitution to residential school victims. It was the church listed in the video as covering the matter up. Where I bring my self defense in is that I simply try not to be part of the problem. My grandma died of cancer a few years back. Growing up she made me give her one of my toys each time she visited. After she died, I learned that she had descended from a cree woman in Northern Manitoba. (she was blond haired and had blue eyes) I learned that most of my toys had gone to a reserve close by. I knew while she was alive that most of my clothes had gone there. I couldn't have been more proud of my grandma!

Canada has its problems. Nothing new here. The country lost its number 1 ranking in the world as the best place to live due to this problem.
The problem of the residential schools is actually opposite to the problem of black children in the 50's in the U.S.
Many british imperialists that were colonizing Canada wished for the aboriginal peoples to become so called "Canadians" and learn British/European culture. What Canada should have really done is do what the Danes did in Greenland. In the schools, they taught the aboriginal students their original objibway and cree languages, as well as Danish. What that lead to was an integration of the aboriginals into society with white people. The Canadian experiment failed, and now my parent's generation is paying billions of dollars in taxes towards the native population for treaties created 150 yrs ago with them that are now vastly outdated.
In trying to assimilate these peoples, they lost their sense of dignity, their drive, and any sense of future. Many of them live on reserves, sniff gas, and drink alcohol until they die a very premature death.
The government has tried different tactics. We have tried the method of the danes in having aboriginal elders teaching their children with their traditional methods with some success and improvements. A major problem is that reserves wish to have their own self governments so they can separate themselves from Canadian society, but they wish to still receive billions of dollars from the Canadian government. Many reserves fail to govern themselves successfully has the band leaders drive Escalades, while the rest of their community live in third world conditions.
Canadian government has apologize for past transgressions, but their major error is that they just keep throwing more and more money at the reserves which does little to solve the problem.
The funny thing is that the bands that interact most with the white population are the ones who are thriving with their businesses. The ones who wish to isolate themselves and complain about past transgressions that happened 150 yrs ago are the ones that drink themselves to death and perish.
The government continues to search for solutions to the problem. I think that if the aboriginal population is going to succeed, they are going to have to gain self independence again and stop depending on the government's tax dollars to support them.

Just watched it in its entirety...wow.
I feel fcking enraged.
How anyone, christian or not, could have done what those people did, or much less endured it being done to them, is beyond me.
I'm sending this to everyone I know. Also, whoever "thumb-downed" this story needs a swift kick in the nuts.
