Britain's only lifeguard dog has been sacked.
Bilbo, who has helped save three lives, has been relieved of his duties by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
The RNLI, which now runs the life-saving operation on the beach in Sennen, near Land's End in Cornwall said: "He would fail the resuscitation test."
According to the Mirror a spokesman added: "We can't employ a dog as a guard. They are banned from the beach."
Bilbo, a 14-stone Newfoundland, was regularly seen on the back of a quad bike with owner and head lifeguard Steve Jamieson.
He swam around struggling bathers and when they grabbed the float fixed to his harness he paddled to safety.
Mr Jamieson, 54, said he was upset at the decision. He said: "It's a scandal, an absolute disgrace. Bilbo has had fantastic support.
"He's had 6,500 hits on his website, been on TV and I've written a book about him."

That's reidiculous, just because dogs or banned from the beach? Accpetions should be taken.

Oh, please! Service Animals skirt that one all the time. Don't go cheapin' out on the Alpo on Bilbo! There are surely some lazier two-legged mongrels who deserve that unkind cut more than Bilbo. And, I'll bet they got hefty raises, once the kibble was redistributed to cut Bilbo out. That's just foul! Real Foul!

This is a total disgrace, Bilbo is being judged on a stupid thing he cant do rather than the important part (saving lives) that he has already proved he can, This should be left to the people who use to beaches to decide. I have met Bilbo who is very friendly, with a very responsible handler who in the bright vest that Bilbo is seen in puts a clear message over to all on the beach. Instead of taking rescue dogs of the beaches more should be put on making them safer places to enjoy. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.
