On May 15, the California Supreme Court released its decision on the gay marriage ban. Activists were waiting on the courthouse steps with bated breath.

Horray California!
-
um. it's about time!!
-
This has been a monumental achievement for civil rights. This decision represents a great leap for the equality of intrinsic rights that must be protected for everyone regardless of Sexual Orientation. hurrah!
-
Awesome pov.
-
It's great in all but why does it have to called marriage. Why couldn't just be called a civil union, just give them the legal rights of marriage cause that's all they really want. The right to healthcare, taxes, social security benefits. So in that way it's a good thing.
-
Tradiggy-
Giving gays civl unions instead of marriage is the same principal as "separate but equal." People will still use the fact that they don't have a "real marriage" as an excuse to discriminate against them. Civil unions are a step in the right direction, but its a little insulting.
Separate is never equal. -
i agree, what would be the point of calling it a civil union when you have the right to get married??
... that it what all of this was about!
holler, I'm so happy about this! Brought tears to my eyes!
finally! -
I'm glad some states are starting to lighten up. It's ridiculous for so many people to get all worked up over two people in love who want to make a commitment to each other. However, I still don't think marriage belongs in the constitution and I fear some states are going to amend their constitutions in knee-jerk reaction. State and the US Constitutions should not regulate relationships!

Top 10 reasons I am so glad to be a lesbian:
10. I can change tires on my own
9. I can have sex without the 1% worry (birth control is only 99% effective) and no worries about "accidental" pregnancies
8. I get to wear comfortable shoes and clothing and look great
7. No body image issues
6. Not stuck with the female sex role in bed, I get to switch it around
5. Doggie style does not involve fecal matter by default, but you have a choice
4. I get access to the locker room of interest
3. I get to follow the Bible: "Thou shall not sleep with men the way you sleep with women" Amen
2. Women are so sexy
1. Breasts -
this is a step backwards for the american constitution. The USA is a country founded under god by christians and for christians. America is founded on the principals of liberty and justice and Gay marriage is the antithesis of these beliefs. Our founding fathers fought and died to create this christian country as taught in the bible. None of them ever wrote of making it a safe haven for eunuchs and idolaters.
Vote for Freedom in 08 by supporting the republican party and voting for America by electing McCain! DONT VOTE FOR TERRORSITS! -
tigpoppa-
First of all, the founding fathers were slave owners, also many of them were deists and satanists, so that just about kills your arguement.
Second, freedom of religion was in the bill of rights, the constitution can not endorse nor hinder any religion.
Finally, the bible only mentions homosexuality in Levidicus, it was in the Code of Holiness which was reserved for Israelites during the time of Moses.
You lose. -
i think vitaminb2 said it all...
thank u for that response.
i completely agree -
That is exactly my problem with people like tigpoppa. They have absolutely no idea what the hell they're talking about. Someone must have been sleeping in History class while taunting the gay kid because mommy and the pastor says they don't deserve to live. I suppose it was also a step back for America when blacks and women were finally allowed to vote, right?
Go read a book and get your facts straight about what this country was built upon before spreading your primitive ideas that can only be equated to simply, hate. The only thing backwards here is your obvious ignorance on all things fact and opinionated. -
Actually, many of the founding fathers were Masons, who believe in freedom of religion and this is why they purposely put in "separation of church and state", so religion would NOT dominate U.S. freedoms. Sad how we've gotten so far from this with our current administration, the "leader" of which uses God in ways that are shameful just to substantiate his actions. (How many people have been killed in the name of God? That's abominable!)
Oh, and BTW, religion-based leaders also use fear to control their people, which is where I'm assuming the "don't vote for terrorists" from tigpoppa comes in.
Stop minding who other people chose to love - its really none of your business, and it *doesn't* belong in the US Constitution.-

i teared up when they came out with the verdict.
i am so happy for them.
people are people.
love is love.
i don;t understand people who don't agree with gay marriage who agree with the institution of marriage itself. i specfically don't understand people who say they disagree with gay marriage because the bible says its wrong.
the bible vaguely references "lying" with others of the same sex and that it is wrong. mind you, this is in the old testament. first of all the bible has been translated many many times-- in the process loosing certain meanings and nuances, so those passages could mean ANYTHING. and even if they meant what they meant-- that gay sexual intercourse and marriage is wrong-- the bible also talks about finding other people attractive as wrong, lying, and being at all rude to ones parents. so, tigpoppa, have you never lied? never found another individual attractive? sniped at your parents? who are you to rank sins and assume that gay marriage is WAYYY worse than those things?
clearly, the main message of the bible is that people sin, and they can be forgiven. it's in our nature. and the secondary message, from Jesus, is that one should love and except everyone into their heart.
also, this country was founded on individuals ESCAPING persecution.
and as far as im concerned it seems like by not letting this people marry, which seems extremely unfair when reading the constitution which says "With All Men Created Equal" RIGHT THERE, why straight people can get married by gay and lesbian people can't.
i, too, am a christian . but its my faith, not the entire United State's. (*ahem* the SEPERATION of church and state). therefore, im not going to sleep with a woman any time soon, but if someone else wants to, or wants to get married, all the power to them.
anway, i pray for you, tigpoppa, because either your post was such a troll (and if you are... so lame...), or, you are trying to use your religion as an agent of hate and discrimanation againt others, whichi i HIGHLY doubt is what Jesus would want.
anyways, YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bible also condoned animal sacrifice and that's not widely acceptable today...so it proves that people evolve beyond the words interpreted by the *people* who *wrote* the bible.
I love hearing from open-minded and tolerant Christians - I truly believe their faith is stronger than anyone of blind faith. Key word there.
Lemonsun has it right: love is love. Anyone who has a problem with it (because it's this or that) is to be pitied. It isn't always easy to find love and when its found, it should be cherished and nourished and honored, period.

I loved this pod. It is a wonderful day in the world when humans get a step closer to being humane.
We all deserve the same rights, we are all equal beings, with the same emotions and needs.
I really liked this pod because it demonstrates the emotions of the people involved in these issues. It shows gay people in a different light, you are forced to see a side of these people that makes you look at gays as human beings, and not just gay.
Please show more clips like this one. -
I and my partner will not be joining the "Gay Marriage Bandwagon"; we do not comply with it because of what the prophesies of old foretell of our society today. We are doing our part for society as a whole and we look beyond our own interests.
The irony with the homosexual community is that it is homogenized. There is a claim to "celebrate diversity", yet it yields when it comes to diversity of thought.

I turned on the TV in the middle of this pod, but just watching half of it I felt so excited for ever person waiting for the courts to come out. I know my mom, being a gay woman, would love to have been standing there with everyone else just as happy to know she could legally be with her partner. I hope that one day it will be like that in our state as well so my mom can make that step forward along with so many other couples that love and care for each other. Thank you for this pod.
