Researchers at Isfahan University of Technology have invented a car which consumes only a liter of gas to drive up to 500 kilometers.
“The single-person car is capable of driving at a maximum speed of 75 kilometers per hour,” Alireza Fadaei, supervisor of the manufacturer group announced.
“The car has a 3.5 horsepower carburetor and is equipped with an injection engine,” he added.
“Composite materials with fiber-carbon, which form the body of the car, give it low weight and high strength,” the supervisor of the group claims.
The Iranian car, which is scheduled to be exhibited in France's Low Consuming Exhibit in Nogaro, aims to replace motorcycles.

Would be nice to see a pic of it to see how bad it looks lol

This is an ultra sub compact car from the specifications being thrown out. Though the engine system might inspire engineering changes in mainstream vehicles, I doubt it truly has an impact on anything besides international bragging rights.
-
weamericans have had car like that since 1968 just goes to showhow far be hind us they are

The topic is not about the date of the invention of the car, it's about MPG something the US is most certainly not a trailblazer.
-
3.5 horsepower ? maybe i can put wheels on my leaf-blower and get around .
-
I'm pretty surprised this would be from Iran... where gas shouldn't be a problem. Well, maybe it is...

Iran doesn't want to use oil, the more oil they use the less money they can make by selling oil to the Americans with our huge SUV's!
-
i can claim the same thing but without seeing it i don't believe it
-
I'm sure Secretary of State William Kristol will be showing photos of this "mobile biological weapons platform" in a year shortly before President John McCain orders our armed forces to invade the country in Operation Iranian Liberation.

Convert km to miles... 310 miles.
Liters to gallons... .264 gallons.
That's about 80 MPG.
I believe Hilary wanted ~50 MPG by 2015.-

I think Hilary was also expecting a family sedan to get that kind of mileage.
I want to see what the car actually looks like, to see if they're using the same kinda aerodynamic designs that are being used on the Aptera near San Diego.-

handshakeheartbreak, are you sure it's 80 MPG? I know your conversions are correct but it's 310 miles per 0.264 gallons, multiply by 3.78/3.78 to get one gallon and you get 1,174 miles. That's a whole lot more impressive than ~50 MPG, it's over 20 times better.
You can check it here: http://www.math.com/everyone/calculators/calc_source/mi... -
bravo brendan_m!
I think it's a good thing people worldwide are looking into low-fuel alternatives to cope with the fact we are running out of oil, certainly in the middle east, where oil is expected to run out relatively soon. -
a car is either a fuel injected or naturally aspirated(carburated). A carburator cannot have 3.5 horsepower. An average lawn mower has 4 or 5 horsepower. And these people are building a nuclear reactor??? Thats funny...well maybe not
-
Oh, so THIS is the real reason we're about to bomb Iran. Bush and Cheney were pissed when they found out some camel jockeys made a car that uses less of their sweet, sweet oil.
-
Hope our government doesn't find out. If they you know we'll end up going to war... yet again.
-
“The car has a 3.5 horsepower carburetor and is equipped with an injection engine,” he added.
Well?
Which is it? Carburetor or Injection? You can't have both.
3.5 HP and 75 KMH? Sure it is possible but it would have the ride and build characteristics of a Baby carriage, Have no carrying capacity(including a passenger), Be unsafe on any highway and will not have any safety features.
In other words....a low powered go-kart.-

Ah it's all very clear now. All the rhetoric and propaganda is coming from the US auto and Oil industry. Some of Bush's oil buddies are trying to get him to blow up the factories before this car can be mass produced.
-
This is really good. The question I'm asking myself though, is will it ever reach the world to make a real difference?

now if only they were not so secretive.
-
You'd be a little secretive too if someone was threatening to obliterate you all the time.
-
Wow amazing. Maybe one day our relations with Iran could be strong enough to trade for this type breakthough. But yhis would require talking to them PEACEFULLY which we all know would be a big mistake. At least that is what we are told.
-
OK.
Everybody who knows nothing about cars please do a little research before commenting.
A vehicle that makes 80 MPG is easy to make.
A Vehicle that would get 80 MPG and meet all Federal Safety and emmission standards is hard but could be done.
A car that would meet all standards, get 80 MPG and still be practical is pretty much impossible with today's technology.
TATA, an Indian Car company will soon be producing a car that gets similar mileage. Forget it comming to the US anytime soon. It would never meet our pollution and safety standards.
Funny how the same people who scream about wasteful cars are one of the main causes for that inefficiency.
So thanks all you Treehuggers and Nanny-Staters!-

handshakeheartbreak, if a car can go for 500 kilometers (310 miles) on just one liter of gas, and seeing that there are 3.78541178 liters (just under 4 liters) in 1 US gallon, that's hardly 80 mpg. It is more like one thousand and two hundred miles per gallon.

Its about time someone made a really low emissions car.
BUT lets face it, it'll never replace the thrill of a motorbike :P -
"God bless big oil, God bless America"? Well, both are still waiting for that blessing which will probably never come as it is undeserved.
