France to push UN for decriminalization of gays

  1. jcwelker
  2. related topics
The French government will press the United Nations to pressure countries to abolish bans on homosexuality the country's minister for human rights has announced.

Homosexuality remains a crime in 75 countries. In many of those countries, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Nigeria it is punishable by death. Sentences in other countries range from public floggings to imprisonment.

Human Rights Minister Rama Yade told a meeting of French LGBT rights groups that his government would make its appeal to the UN when France assumes the rotating six-month EU presidency in July.

During that period France will speak for all EU member states at the UN General Assembly.

  • With any hope, human rights will persevere.

  • I hope more countries back this appeal. There's often so much focus on pressing for other human rights, and this one should should not be ignored.

  • Whoever wrote this propaganda piece at Gay news does not even know that Rama Yade is a woman.

Uganda is the country that has seen the most decrease in Aids in Africa by promoting Abstinence before marriage and Fidelity after marriage instead of promiscuity and condoms

The UN has so much more to learn from that country than teach them.

  • I cant believe people think we live in a civilised world. 75 Countries put people in jail for being gay?! Thats like arresting someone for being black/white!! Its not a choice and its in no way a crime!
Hopefully ALL the countries will back this.

This isn't about Uganda or sex education and it isn't propaganda. This is the truth about people being jailed and killed because of their love. You should show some respect. It's one thing to think gays shouldn't be allowed to get married, but if you honestly think they should be killed or jailed, your a complete bigot.

If you want respect ask Jc Welker to check what she or He posts on this website.

It is not enough to just post stuff without even doing a minimum of cross-checking.

It looses complete credibility. I am tired of being misled

You have not even read the link yourself. Yes it involves Uganda.

  • Vitamin,

I need to add the following. Western countries think their culture and rights as so superior. They should look at their own records before they look down at every body else.

France still does not have religious freedom.

French laws ar used by the chinese to repress the Falun gong. They have an official a list of 162 religious movements that are persecuted. It reminds me of the jews with their yellow stars.

In Germany it is criminal to home school your own children.

If you look at the USA, between binge drinking, date rapes, STDs, teenage suicide, aids, divorce, abortions, drugs, pornography, school killings, gangs, crimes etc.. Who are we to teach other people ?

I think that you need to educate yourself about other cultures including their country statistics.

Uganda went from 30% HIV down to a single digit.

Meanwhile UN policies are a failure, killing so many people.

The message of diversity today means there are no norms anymore.

The great freedom of America is turning into moral bankruptcy. The world can see it.

You can call me bigot all you want but facts are not on your side.

The arrogance of the declining west is coming to an end.

I meant it's not just about Uganda. I meant that bulk of the story is about gay rights.
Also I never said the West was perfect, but if you don't like it, either try to do something about it or leave.
And you speak as if Uganda is some Utopia, or do you not know about the Lord's Resistance Army. All I'm saying is that no country should jail someone for life just because they're gay. And if someone thinks that it's right, that is what makes them a bigot.

  • LIke you, I do not like unjustice.

Please stop using the word BIGOT for any one that does not believe or agree with homosexuality and consider it an evil force.

By acting is such way, you can be called a bigot yourself.

If you take the time to study Islam in depth, (separate from the different cultures or politics.) you may begin to understand what many people in these countries feel about homosexuality.

  • I didn't say that anyone against gay rights is a bigot. I said that anyone who thinks gays deserve to die or be jailed is a bigot.
Also, many of my friends are Muslim, some of them think they deserve rights, others don't. The Quran says they're not allowed to be gay, it doesn't say that they have to hate or kill them. Also, there are gay Muslims.
Religion is a poor excuse for homophobia.

  • Vitamin, why do you always have to end up your comments by slamming a label on people that do not agree with you so you can define them by force

Homophobic is one of those. Do you want to be labelled religiousphobic, heterophobic, every time someone communicates with you ?
    Obamination
  • First of all, I never said anything against religion or straight people. I am straight and I am religious.
Second, people define themselves as homophobic through speach and action. Webster's Dictionary defines it as the irrational hatred or fear of homosexuals or homosexuality.
    VitaminB2
  • Most people think that homosexuality is irrational and accept that masculinity and femininity are the only two genders.

Their fear especially when it come to their young children exposure to this lifestyle are absolutely legitimate

The agenda and recent actions of gay activists is a real threat forcing people to selfdefense

The word homophobic is just a label used in the cultural war since no one really define themselves that way by their actions or speech. Their are defined as such by homosexuals

This does not mean that I support provocative acts of hatred.

"Most people think that homosexuality is irrational and accept that masculinity and femininity are the only two genders." Five hundred years ago, people thought the world was flat. People accept what they chose to accept, but the law should not reflect that without a damned good reason.

"Their fear especially when it come to their young children exposure to this lifestyle are absolutely legitimate" You use only stereotypes to build your idea of "the homosexual lifestyle." That's like saying "the Black lifestyle" or "the Jewish lifestyle." And what exposure are you talking about? Two men holding hands? Is that really so scary?

"The agenda and recent actions of gay activists is a real threat forcing people to selfdefense" What agenda? What actions? Fighting for equal rights?

"The word homophobic is just a label used in the cultural war since no one really define themselves that way by their actions or speech. Their are defined as such by homosexuals" No one defines themselves as insane. They're defined as such by sane people.

Your post has reached the level of irrationality.

You can only write such arguments based on your thinking that I am stupid enough to even try to answer such foolish rethoric.

I hope you are having fun,

By the way I do not believe a minute that you are religious and straight.

I don't believe for a minute that you have a social life. You type like a boring old man.
