Michael Moore announces new film

Image...
He says the film is really about what's happened inside the U.S. while the Bush administration has been "asleep at the wheel", busy waging war in Iraq. It sounds like vintage Moore and promises more of the kind of thing he delivered in Roger & Me as he is sure to go after some corporations he believes have had a free ride in the last eight years. Obviously he doesn't want to give too much away at this point as he is just getting into production and knows these companies will be warning employees to stay away from him.

Too bad he hasn't died yet from obesity-related illnesses.

  •

Too bad you haven't died either. Your name is really appropriate you elitist pig. How cowardly of you to be anonymous and make such insulting remarks.

At least I have the courage, like the person who posted this story, to show my real face on this website and to make my real name know. I back up what I say and post on here with the real me, not some dog who ate my icon.

Michael Moore has a problem with Bush. So be it. His works to further his vendetta with Bush don't serve anything positive in our country. They only serve to further stir the pot when nothing positive is coming of it. He is a pot stirrer.. not a problem solver.

And he's a fat slob that should focus a piece on irresponsible life-style as it affects our economy and healthcare system. In other words, do a piece of work about the economic affects of obesity in our country and how people are so irresponsible today with respect to that.

  •

...and imagine that... I can reply to you without calling you all kinds of silly names.

I question anyone's objective for wishing such an upstanding American, such as Michael Moore, any ill will. Moore is a man who stands up for the democratic principles that have made this country great. Anyone who disagrees must be for the insidious thugs that have taken over this country of late and taken us all to the dogs...sold us down the river... Once a Right-Wing Tool always a Right-Wing Tool. Is that how it goes..?

Moore will always have the respect of the majority of Americans...the ones who believe in Democracy...You Right-Wing Tools will always just be avoiding logic and reason...because if you were logical or reasonable, you would see that you're only the brainwashed fools of bigger fools than you...the ones who profess to embrace truth with dignity and honor, while plotting the insidious, inexcusable, and unforgivable blatant Betrayal of the Public Trust...

I can't wait to see the film...thanks Carolyn

I like that Mr. Moore cares enough to bring up important issues in his films, but his arrogance often leaks into his work far too much for my liking. I'm not saying that he is either right or wrong. I just wish that if he is to label his movies as documentaries that he will leave his opinions out of it and let the viewers make up their own minds. His over the top ego often makes him a punching bag for conservatives, and it ultimately defeats the purpose of making the movie in the first place. Wishing him death is out of line though. He just makes movies.

A documentary about education would be interesting

I like what Micheal Moore does, but I can't say I like Micheal Moore. He's an arrogant ass! At the very least he is bringing to peoples attention, who otherwise may not notice it, the problems that aren't being tended to by the current establishment. I hope he does one on Rex 84.... or has he already? Does anyone know?

If he put out more balanced movies instead of responding to fear-mongering with more of the same, I would respect his work a lot more. As it is, the movies are great conversation starters. Hopefully they encourage people to look into issues they might not otherwise have thought about. But to trust only what you see in his movies is very one-sided.

Michael Moore cares more about the people in this country than any other filmmaker. He is an incendiary force that has caused a lot of change for the good. Because of him, documentaries that expose sticky issues are gaining momentum in this country. He is a charismatic personality, and he doesn't care that some people don't like him -- that's why he's effective. He concentrates on doing what he does best, not on being liked.

Because of him, the debate on health care is coming to the attention of the masses. Because of him and filmmaker activists like him, important issues that get glossed over in the news media are brought to light.

    Michael MOORE ROCKS!!!!

Does he finally realize Al Gore is not the same as Bush?

    and

"Moore will always have the respect of the majority of Americans...the ones who believe in Democracy"

Nice attempt to damn the source with an ad hominem approach and a sweeping generalization.

Too much of his work is opinion and vitriol sprinkled with legitimate subject matter but substantiated and punctuated by taking unknowing people's comments out of context, disguised and presented to viewers who don't know better as some sort of legitimate documentary. They are neither objective nor positive, but instead center around personal attacks rather than mature presentation of issues and potential solutions.

So tell me, why if I do not appreciate his work as you do, does that automatically classify me as whatever else it is that you hate?

Re: "Does he finally realize Al Gore is not the same as Bush? "

IMO, there is no material difference between the major party politicians of today. You could vote for any of the 3 options and still get looser borders, no solution to Iraq, play to special interests, and a weak approach to alternative energy.

I would vote for Al Gore before Obama or Clinton.

Moore is an example of the adage that it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and erase all doubt.

I apologize for flying off the handle calling you an elitist pig. But I actually like your idea about doing a film on the effects of obesity. Although besides showing the financial cost of obesity in America, I would show the suffering that people who are obese go through; the ups and downs they have with weight gain and loss. I would show the emotional toll on the family and friends. The problem of Obesity can be very demoralizing and arduous for people in this condition because there are so many triggers that could cause them to relapse and society basically hates "Fat People". which is really ironic because in the hundreds of years prior to the Victorian era, which BTW is still continuing today under the guise of Religious Morality, being overweight was considered beautiful and a sign of affluence.

Obviously from your post, you believe that people are obese because they are fat pigs who have no self control and are engaging in the sin of gluttony "irresponsible life-style as it affects our economy and healthcare system". I didn't see any balance or compassion in your very first or even your second statement, and my immediate reaction to people with no kindness or mercy to speak of is to call a spade a spade.

Have you not heard that most people who suffer from Obesity suffer not just because they lack willpower to stop eating; no, in fact according the organization called "Obesity in America":

"Weight gain and obesity are caused by consuming more calories than the body needs – most commonly by eating a diet high in fat and calories, being sedentary or both. However, the imbalance between calories consumed and calories burned can also be caused by a number of different obesity-related factors, including genetic, hormonal, behavioral, environmental and even cultural. It is important to remember that obesity is not always simply a behavioral issue. In fact, endocrine researchers are on the forefront of medical research into the mechanisms of metabolism, appetite and satiety and their connection to obesity. For instance, genetic traits, the way a body expends energy (metabolism), hormones that affect the way calories are processed (hyperthyroidism), and other organ systems in the body can all affect appetite. Eating disorders, metabolic syndrome, behavioral issues and an individual’s environment and culture may also affect the development of obesity12. For this reason physicians consider many factors when assessing obesity."

Although this is a step in the right direction in understanding obesity, a much more comprehensive look can be found in this article from WebMD.

Excerpt: "(WebMD) Obesity isn't all about eating and inactivity, says an international group of researchers.

Just about everywhere you look, doctors are blaming America's obesity epidemic on two things: too much food — especially widely marketed fast food and junk food — and too little exercise, with too much time in front of the TV.

But we're paying too much attention to the "big two," argue David B. Allison, PhD, director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham clinical nutrition research center, and his colleagues.

"The importance of the big two is accepted as established, and other putative factors are not seriously explored," they argue. "The result may be well-intentioned but ill-founded proposals for reducing obesity rates."

To stimulate debate, Allison and colleagues suggest 10 other possible causes of obesity. Their article appears in this week's online edition of the International Journal of Obesity. "

    1. Sleep debt. Getting too little sleep can increase body weight. Today's Americans get less shut-eye than ever.

    2. Pollution. Hormones control body weight. And many of today’s pollutants affect our hormones.

    3. Air conditioning. You have to burn calories if your environment is too hot or too cold for comfort. But more people than ever live and work in temperature-controlled homes and offices.

    4. Decreased smoking. Smoking reduces weight. Americans smoke much less than they used to.

    5. Medicine. Many different drugs — including contraceptives, steroid hormones, diabetes drugs, some antidepressants, and blood pressure drugs — can cause weight gain. Use of these drugs is on the upswing.

    6. Population age, ethnicity. Middle-aged people and Hispanic-Americans tend to be more obese than young European-Americans. Americans are getting older and more Hispanic.

    7. Older moms. There's some evidence that the older a woman is when she gives birth, the higher her child's risk of obesity. American women are giving birth at older and older ages.

    8. Ancestors' environment. Some influences may go back two generations. Environmental changes that made a grandparent obese may "through a fetally driven positive feedback loop" visit obesity on the grandchildren.

    9. Obesity linked to fertility. There's some evidence obese people are more fertile than lean ones. If obesity has a genetic component, the percentage of obese people in the population should increase.

    10. Unions of obese spouses. Obese women tend to marry obese men. If there are fewer thin people around — and if obesity has a genetic component — there will be still more obese people in the next generation.

unobjectivity_sucks, your comments are incendiary and negative, you don't seem to come here to help foster understanding, instead you come here only to antagonize and expound on your own political agenda, whatever that may be.

You are self centered far more than the liberal lefties you are berating. You don't have any compassion or understanding in your speech; only caustic declarations and slams.

For the most part here at Current, which of course you are free to stay and say what ever you want as much as anybody else does, people come here to get a better understanding and to engage in discussions, not engage in conflicts and deal with bullies. This isn't the first time that I have read your words and do these kinds of things.

I would hope that if you continue to engage with members in this forum that you would have a little more compassion, that or perhaps a Fox chat room or blog could be a better soap box for you to stand on.

Unobjectivity, I know this is going to sound like I'm being a smart ass, but really I'm not it's a serious question. Who is dealing with these same issues though?

The way I see it is that he is presenting issues in a way that hasn't been done in quite the same way or with the same amount of exposure. So in my eyes, he kind of defaults as being the "winner" (I guess that would be the word).

But seriously, please list any other media that has touched on the same issues and I will gladly experience them.

Michael Moore is one of my heroes. He has a conscience and knows how to use it.

  •

I really hope he takes on 9/11 issues. There are so many people on the streets he could talk to, so many people who saw things that didn't add up.

Jubal, my pal, keep up the great posts. Don't listen to them. Your information is rich with wisdom and well stated! The lazy ones can skip over your posts if they are too long and tiresome. Perhaps a Fox "News" format is better for them.

Amazing that I popped into this post, didn't read if because I was too busy and look at this great debate here! This is the way of the future. I used to get up in the morning with steam shooting out of my ears with rampant media disinformation and no where to vent.

    Michael Moore is fat.
Sometimes I look at people like him and Al Gore who are out of shape now as being in a similar situation to many young mothers. They are too busy putting out important fires . We all want to be slim and healthy but sometimes it is not the priority.

I am a progressive green person but sometimes I shop at Walmart. This is not because I like their policies. It is because I am trying to make the best of an imperfect system we are in. My impossible goal is to be a perfect person and I pretty much know where that will take me but I am a long way from being there.
There are reasons we are not all 100% perfect in every action. We are all human beings living in an imperfect system. I see criticism of Al Gore and Michael Moore who are giving their hearts and souls to help society. Give them a break. I hope they get there and also that they become Vegans. That is working great for me and helpful to the planet..I don't expect everyone to drop every bad habit of their lives in a week!

Moore might not be perfect, but he has his heart in the right place and usually his head.
