Manchester United have won the UEFA Champions League after an epic red vs. blue penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 game.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Man Utd with a neatly headed ball in to the far corner, followed by a Frank Lampard equallser on the stroke of half-time slotting it past Van der Saar.

Five minutes before the end of extra time, Didier Drogba got sent off for attempting a cheeky little slap on Man Utd's Vidic, a price that proved to be a costly mistake in the penalty shoot-out which saw Manchester United take it 6-5 in penalties.

  • It was a pretty good game, gutted for John Terry who missed the penalty though. He looked completely devastated, crying an everyting.

  • Terry gave an awesome performance, could kind of see it coming ... often the games outstanding performer in open play messes up the penalty shoot out.

Looks like this win has persuaded Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford, but I expect a mini exodus at Chelsea. I cant see lasts nights villain Drogba hanging around ... Will Frank Lampard switch West London for Milan? Can Avram Grant hang on to his job? Has Abramovich bored of football as he turns his mega money interest on the Arts world? I'm sure his recent record breaking £61.5m purchases will turn out to be a better investment than Shevchenko.

With no English interest in Euro 2008 I'm quite looking forward to the close season soap opera.

  • Anyone noticed the similarity between Grant and Dangermouse's old enemy Baron Greenback? ...

    Creepy.

  • What a game! One for English football; fast, aggressive and attacking. Great result for Man U and a bit of a shame for Terry and Lampard but Drogba deserved to be sent off.

Despite Abramovich's endless supply of cash, Chelsea. didn't win a thing this season. That's a good thing for our beautiful game.

  • When they're not missing penalties and losing finals, Chelsea's star players are squirming yet defiantly asserting their heterosexuality when asked who the best looking player in their squad is.

  • I'm glad Ronaldo missed his penalty, hopefully, it'll take his smuggness down a notch or two.

  • Real Madrid's president Ramón Calderón remains optimistic that 23-year-old Ronaldo may still leave England despite being just one year into a five-year contract. Could the unstoppable, baby-faced forward fit in with folk at Bernabeu? This final seems to have overshadowed the speculation.

As for the game, i only caught the highlights. It looked somewhat suspenseful!

  • £100m. He's the best player in the world but is anyone worth that? I hope he stays.

    The Chelsea video is AMAZING....

  • Chuffed with last night's result. I wasn't so much hoping United would win, but rather hoping Chelsea would lose ... cynical I know!

yeah - I couldn't stand the idea of Abramovich romping to victory on his home turf.

  • The earthquake last night in Manchester wasn't a natural occurrence after all, it was 200,000 Utd fans jumping up and down.

It was a great result - well-deserved for Man Utd. Man U dominated the first half and should have gone into half time 2 or 3 nil up but Chelsea got a massive slice of luck with their goal. Chelsea hit the bar a couple of times but if it wasn't for John terry clearing off the line when Giggs had an open goal, the game would have been over before penalties.

Terry missed his pen after a slip but it evened up the luck since their equalizer was fortuitous. Anyway, Chelsea can have any complains, Anelka missed too.

Man Utd deserved to win the Champions league this year - they had a tough route - Lyon, Roma, Barcelona. Chelsea had much easier ties against Fenabache and Schalke. It was a brilliant game and now I can't wait for the victory parade!
