Apropos of Naomi Klein’s amazing story in the latest issue of Rolling Stone on the $200 billion surveillance industrial complex comes this Indy Rock video from London, where the rockers performed in front of several of the city’s 200,000 CCTV cameras and then used something like the Freedom of Information Act to acquire their footage from the government.

  • Extremely clever, using surveillance to get the word out and bring awareness.

  • Great idea, kinda sorta okay music. Where is the Floyd when you need them?

  • British political activist/comedian Mark Thomas came up with the idea of using the freedom of information act to procure CCTV footage a few years ago.

Here is a interesting article about filmmakers using CCTV:

Also a quick vid of Mark putting the freedom of information act into use while doing what he does best - getting on the establishments nerves with some well informed heckling ...
    Pardon
  • It's a nice idea - I remember the stuff on the Mark Thomas show... I think he was encouraging viewers to record short plays on CCTV, and then send them in.

It's a shame the band sound like Coldplay.

  • Nice video, shame about the song.

@BigBurst. I saw that film, I liked it. Interesting idea & surprisingly shocking in places.

  • Shame such a small percentage of this is actual surveillance footage and that the content of the song has nothing to convey about the 200,000 CCTV cameras, in fact it actually celebrates them and ends up just being empty self publicity as far as I can see.

  • Sweet concept for a video. Horrible music.

  • MAD PROPS to the British Government for handing over the tapes; unlike a certain other government I know that would have just said "no," regardless of the legality.
  • What are you talking about - they're great, if you watch without your headphones or speakers on! ;)

Yeah it was certainly erotically shocking.

Very daring film though. Great social commentary on video surveillance. Be nice to know if they used genuine CCTV footage or did it all in post.

Did Lars Von Trier do something similar?

  • That is a genius concept for a music video.

But I agree that their song doesn't do anything for me. But good for them making this creative video.

Great idea, unfortunately, their 15 minutes is up and I do not dig their sound...it puts me to sleep.

  • see how contradictory this is? We have all the stupid surveillance and yet, we can access it ANYTIME under freedom of information act.

  • Neat video, mediocre band. Assault is still my favorite form of video though.

  • Brilliant move. And because of that I'd be willing to give them another listen.
