In the middle of Florida is a town so perfect, it feels like it's been ripped from a Hollywood screenplay. Resident's affectionately call this place the "bubble" but to outsiders, it's known as Celebration. Celebration, Florida has a unique history and it's redefining the way one looks at small town America. Take a trip inside the bubble with Current TV.

  • this was beautifully shot and thoughtfully composed. really interesting interviews you got as well. you packed a ton of information into 7 minutes, but it worked. loved the shot at 4:30. wikipedia tells me Adam Vinatieri lives there too. wtf?

    62 disney cruises!!??
  • yeah, this creeps me out. and i like the video because it really does raise questions about what makes a community.

  • Terrific pod. I remember the skepticism, in the beginning, surrounding the building of a "pre-fab town". The Disney Haters attacked it with both guns blazing. Yet, if you travel around Central Florida, you'll find many small towns that have existed for over a hundred years that look very much like Celebration. Try Deland, for example, where I spent my teen years. I've been to Celebration and can attest that the Disney folks did an excellent job recreating the charms of a community which seems like it's been there for many decades.
Call it an expensive experiment that succeeded on many levels.
I'm no fan of Disney but, I dig this place.

  • C-R-E-E-P-Y!
I like planned communities, we need more of them because adding new buildings to older communities wreaks havoc on the existing infrastructure.
Celebration looks like a neat place, but it is very Pleasantville-ian and freaky in many ways... bad feelings are evoked thinking about this place... One more reason to get the hell out of the 'Sunshine State!'

  • Very well done and balanced. Most of us would never have the occasion to live this type of planned community, at least not one so crafted to perfection, so it's an interesting look inside. I suppose it would be neat to live among people who shared my "vision" of the world, at least for about 5 minutes, until I woke up and realized that an authentic community, with all its faults and struggles, is so much richer.

  • I think it is a great concept as long as people still getting a connection with the rest of the Country and the World and try to help others somehow in a meaningful way. By helping others they will minimize their sense of insulation and that can be good for all!

  • This is a new kind of Disney World. Interesting and eerie.

  • I find it extremely unnerving that this town has strong ties to Disney.

  • I live in the greater Orlando area and have been to Celebration many times. It has the same feel as most planned communities in central Florida. The people interviewed in this pod are definitly on the fanatic extreme. Most people live there simply because it is a very nice, maintained community while the rest of Orlando is going down the shitter. Most people work outside of Celebration and commute. It's just a benefit to have your gym, theater, recreation, and dining close by when you're commuting to and from work daily.

  • my opinion of planned communities.. is always gonna be that they are fake.

but i could never be sure until i lived there.

They are certainly beautiful in architecture, landscape, and overall layout (where the commercial and industrial areas are) but when i really think about it, there is no real way to judge a community by how its built or set up.

Only by the people that reside in it.

But i still hate that term, planned community... creepy sounding.

  • Creepy is right
  • I don't really like the planned aspect, but one things for certain... whoever made this has no Idea what a small town is. That's just my islander side kicking in!

  • I visited Celebration in January while visiting Disney World with my family. I did think it seemed perfect, I mean there was even a Wysteria Lane. And it was very much like the Desperate Housewives set. But seeing this pod really showed me it was just like any other community. It's history was different but I can still remember how everyone walked around with their dogs. And it definently gave off a very safe feel.

  • Wow, this came out really nice. I'm the Disney Cruise fanatic featured in this clip, and I would have to say that it captures the reality of Celebration much more accurately than most pieces.

I'm still blogging about the town at http://celebrationfl.blogspot.com and still reveling in the awe of hearing the Illuminations fireworks every night from right in my family room. I hope y'all enjoy seeing a little hint of what Celebration is all about; the video does a great job of showing it.

  • I have lived in Celebration since day one but I have come to a time in my life along with my new wife that we must move out of Celebration. Fortuatley we were very lucky to find another Community that created the same concept as Celebration in Colorado. And for the record I mysel along with a good friend who still lives in Celebration coined the phrase " The Bubble"

  • I’ve been there, and had dinner at their fantastic CUBAN restaurant. I did not know it was that fabled planed Disney community I’d heard of. Looked and felt just like Charleston but much cleaner. It was a very inviting atmosphere. I would live there in a heartbeat, if where I lived: North of Nashville (TN) on a few acres was not just as nice.

  • It baffles me why some people are troubled by Celebration. It's basically a well-designed, safe, friendly, diverse small town. You can walk or bike most anywhere. Alex expresses how most residents feel. This video piece was balanced and well done.
