American citizens' billions in taxes go missing

Image...
"A Pentagon audit of $8.2 billion in American taxpayer money spent by the United States Army on contractors in Iraq has found that almost none of the payments followed federal rules and that in some cases, contracts worth millions of dollars were paid for despite little or no record of what, if anything, was received."
"...a cash payment of $320.8 million in Iraqi money was authorized on the basis of a single signature and the words “Iraqi Salary Payment” on an invoice. In another, $11.1 million of taxpayer money was paid to IAP, an American contractor, on the basis of a voucher with no indication of what was delivered."

What is going on with this Administration? They are stealing right from under our noses, and we are doing nothing to stop them. Billions of dollars that could be spent on health care, education, disaster relief, New Orleans rebuilding... ANYTHING is being shifted over covertly without any regulation to the pockets of this Administration's friends.

Yes; I think it's undisputable that one of the major goals of the Bush Administration has always been the redistribution of wealth from the U.S. budget to the military-industrial complex. These companies and their mercenaries will have billions and billions to expand their power and influence for many years to come. And yes, it ultimately comes at the expense of our children and children's children, and their health care, education, housing, and human services.

Where's the outrage? A couple of days ago, a story about the NASA spending $750 million for a planned trip to the sun stirred up dozens of protests. Now, we see more proof of our government magically making BILLIONS of dollars disappear into thin air and we've nothing to say? Again, I ask:

    Where's the outrage?

Shit like this goes on and on. It's been going on forever probably.

What the....Obama should set up a committee to investigate this in his first 100 days in office!

Impeach the entire Busheney gang and prosecute them for treason.

Want to hear a joke? Here's what Bush had to say as justification for vetoing the farm bill: "Americans sent us to Washington to achieve results and be good stewards of their hard-earned taxpayer dollars. This bill violates that fundamental commitment."

How's that for a hoot! But, try not to cry. This is on a scale that is hard to believe it could be real, but it is folks. Don't worry - we'll get it all back, every penny of it.

There was even worse outrage over spending money on establishing permanent bases on the moon.

But when they load 360 tons of cash on a plane and don't even bother to ask where it all went, no one says anything.

Funny when they don't expect to get anything from it, they don't care where it goes. Wars don't have to show anything tangible like that I guess.

OTOH people expect more out of NASA than the Pentagon since NASA always produces exactly what they promise with verifiable results but the Pentagon never does.

This Bush administration has been robbing us hand over fist since they started. Where is the outrage? .I wonder what Obama is going to do about it. I would like to see them all in jail..or worse. There is no excuse for this
Has anyone seen the film Idiocracy? Itis kind of dumb but sometimes I feel like we are already in it...except Current.com people and the younger generation of course.

Lo fing L comparing the benefits of NASA verse the Iraq war is a no brainier. Any portion of the money squandered in Iraq could of turned a profit if redirected to the space program.

NASA has friends like the Earth systems science interdisciplinary center, and World Wildlife Fund
Bush has friends like the neo-cons, Cruella De Vil and Satan.

The Iraq war has divided countries(ours and theirs) and the world at large
NASA unites countries and shares the knowledge gained

The Iraq war is spreading depleted uranium all over the country
NASA has often led the argument of climate change and is using science to find solutions to our needs

Seriously if you believe in the “green” movement you should support NASA. Go to NASA.gov and check out their Earth section you’d be surprised by what they’re doing. Not only do they provide the data most eco friendly people use they’re also spending a lot of time fixing our sloppy agricultural industry. NASA is doing so much at a fraction of the cost then the Iraq war has even attempted to do.

So let’s keep on bitching about the war while at the same time cheering NASA on.

My email to some of my Fox CNN watching friends you might try to cut and paste it for your own use..lotsa luck::

I know you guys don't get this information because you watch main stream news like CNN and Fox and believe it.. This war is costing my family of 4 $500,000. My poor grandchildren will be paying for this..you people don't seem to care but I do...and it is still going on and on for no reason but to enrich Bush's slimy despicable friends. McCane wants the war to continue and is a continuation of Bush's policies. He said we should stay there 100 more years. Our money is being sucked from our pockets as we speak in the amounts of Trillions..unimaginable amounts..and people want Mccane to come in to help us gullible US people get f/d in the rear more. This is not smart for us. It is very smart for the joke of a defense industry who is stealing from us left and right..and Fox News says "more! more! Dumb these people down more! Confuse them with mixed information! Entertain them with pretty images! Give them more pharmaceutical drugs to calm them down! Then suck every cent from their children and grandchildren..We don't care! We love money! We can make more money on their corpses."

I agree with Julie - nothing would prove Obama's commitment to change more than immediately starting an investigation on every aspect of the Bush administration's every move over the past 8 years.

All I hear from the Republican populace I come into contact with here in southern California is that they are voting against higher taxes. The word scares them, as does 'liberal.' But look back, please...what was the price of gasoline when Bush took office? Ditto the cost of living in generally all areas including food, medicine, housing, transportation.

Then look at his war in Iraq. Do you see any justification for continuing to throw billions of dollars away for nothing?

I see nothing but waste in our future.

Yes, this is outrageous, but not all of the blame falls upon the President. Congress does control the purse strings, after all, and they're the ones who are supposed to make sure that our tax dollars get spent properly. Maybe now people will realize that questioning military spending doesn't make you unpatriotic- it's quite the opposite actually. Every dollar spent on bombs is a dollar less for fledgling schools, Medicare or Social Security.

Yes, our congress has failed us as well, but the bottom line is that our nation allowed this president to steal the White House, and now we gripe and moan but do not press for impeachment. This administration belongs in jail, and it is our responsiblility as citizens of this nation to make sure that occurs. Letting him walk away on 1/20/09 will only set the bar for future abuses and destruction of our constitution.

The Founding Fathers admited they did the best they could to set this government up to be of, for and by the people, but they also said that every so often, revolution would be necessary to maintain that government's integrity...

Unbelieveable! And what is Congress doing about it? What happened to Henry Waxman? When the Dems took control I heard all this talk about how he was going to launch investigations into govt waste and war profiteering..............Nothing? The Democrats are cowards, but what choice do we have except to support them? This country can't survive another Republican administration. Obama is as pathetic as the rest. Why isn't he screaming about this stuff? And if he isn't even talking about it now, what makes you think he'll clean house once he gets into office? What can I do except vote for the guy? But the Lesser Evil is still Evil! I hate to say it, but the Constitution is just window dressing at this point. America isn't what it used to be, but we have to salvage what we can. Don't kid yourselves though- Obama isn't going to investigate squat. Prove me wrong, I'm begging you! But it looks like Rome is falling all over again........

The reason they were able to steal the white house and all the money is because we're too poor, demoralized and sick to protest or do anything about it.

I suggest we start by demolishing fox and cnn headquarters, as well as the headquarters of Kaiser Permanente and company. We can take the people out, most of them anyway.

And every time Henry Waxman wants an oversight hearing, the Republicans squawk and squeal like stuck pigs!! Ironically, the GOPer's keep saying the Dems will tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend. And they are the ones who turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to investigations and hearings on missing BILLIONS. Have logic and accountability gone out of style in George Bush's America? It certainly seems so!

there will never be a "paper trail " to even begin to investigate it . investigating it would be fruitless , and would just waste time and money that needs to be directed elsewhere - forget about it .

    malathion
  •

Oh, yes, the administration has destroyed emails, no doubt erased any trail but has also realigned the Supreme Court to ensure that none of the participants are ever brought to justice. Just maybe, however, they were a little too clever, and still have their Achilles heel...
