Danica Patrick Sports Illustrated Cover 'Indy, Yes She Can' (photos)

The Brickyard will host the Indy 500 on Sunday, May 25th. The weather is forecast to be ideal when 26-year-old Danica Patrick will be one of 33 drivers vying for a big win. She is currently enjoying her career high fifth place points ranking following her first victory in Japan in April, making her the first female winner in the history of the Indy Racing League.

  • All three female IRl drivers are of note. Milka Duno qualified for the 500 after only her fourth time in an IRL car and won second place in a 24 hour of le mans race the highest finish for a woman ever. She holds two advanced degrees in engineering as well. Sarah Fisher is the first female owner in open wheel racing and was the first woman to win a poll position in open wheel, which was at the Kentucky speedway. Her best finish was also a podium, 2nd. Danica in adition to winning at Motegi is the first woman to lead a lap at Indy and has the highest finish there for a woman 4th. Expect all three to put in a good showing this year.
