"Congressional Democrats are renewing pressure on the drug industry's direct-to-consumer advertising amid growing tension over the marketing of several best-selling drugs".

Here, also, is an amazing read from a Swedish author on how America is over-medicating our kids and often causing violent behavior with multiple medication:

Oh please, yank the reins on this medication management advertising blitz.
I don't want a world full of zombies. -
Too late, where already hooked and currently f##ked up so ya can't take away the legal drugs that are probably use in illegal ways half the time.
-
Who votes this information down and doesn't give comments here might have a monetary motivation..they might be in the industry..don't you think?
Why else would anyone be ready to vote it down so quickly..it is only information for consumers.
This should be tracked. It is blocking the free flow of information if this is the case.-

It should all be removed from television and restricted to medical magazines. Bring back beer commercials. They were more entertaining and supported better programming. Old woman's nightmare, some old fool with the four hour erection as advertised on TV.

Carolyn: I agree. Everytime I put something here it gets redlighted immediately, as if someone who doesn't like me can't see past that to the information given.

It's happening to everyone, I think Cosmo might be right. The RNC pay people ten cents a post to post garbage on "Liberal" web sites, maybe a red light counts?

No Rx drug should ever be allowed to be advertised. When I have to ask my doctor about a Rx drug then he becomes my dealler.
-
Carolyn, nice find! It will be interesting to see what happens with this.
The advertisements don't bother me nearly as much as the corrupt racket that exists between the government and large corporations. I can choose whether or not to watch some company's commercial (yay DVR!) or look at their ad. But when our borderline fascist system starts to pigeonhole me when it comes to what kinds of products I can purchase then we have an entirely different monster to deal with.
I think that the problem is much, much bigger than the advertising. Here's a link to an article by Alan Stang entitled "Big Pharma, Big Food, Big Fuel and Big Fascism" that you might find interesting. -
Thank you, my connections and friends.. for your great responses..we are fighting the system and getting through to #2 to be televised in US and UK in more than 51 million households Hurray for Al Gore.'s foresight. The truth can now be told by those formerly weak and voiceless against the absolute grips on our words and thoughts. This is a great experiment using cool innovation in science and technology for free speech.
Perhaps, now 2009 will send our free speech rating up where it belongs, in the single digits.-

Oh, but if you ban advertisements for drugs, how will Big Brother keep us doped up so we won't care when they try to take over the world?
Seriously, when the pharmeceutical industry is the #1 FOR PROFIT industry in a nation, one really needs to worry.... -
Carolyn, you made me think. Once in awhile, I "vote" something down on this forum without commenting. I'll try to be more forthcoming in the future.
-
Then why is the drug industry contributing more to Democrats in this election cycle? I'm really curious about this based on the information you gave us here.

Jan this also concerns me.
I am only hoping that it is because there is not other choice since we are working within a bad system. I hope that the system is fixed and we move on to better things. ..I'm probably dreaming.-

I think they know the Democrats are going to take everything in sight and they are trying to grease the rails to the new government. If we insist on public financing of elections that should stop. That is the only way we will ever have a real voice in government again.

I remember when TV first came out; we didn't have one, but our neighbor did--a five-inch CRT tube with a magnifying glass around it, and three or four families gathered round it to watch Superman fly. Later, mama's little helper (Volkswagen) and other companies tickled our funnybones with practical solutions.
We've certainly come a long way, with huge plasma screens in high definition, and every kid has TV of some sort in his room.
Commercials have changed drastically to allow drug companies to aggressively sell their PRESCRIPTION products to people who are supposed to 'ask their doctor if yumptiump is right for you,' telling how you can become a real man (VIAGRA) and even listing the side effects (...if you experience priasm for more than four hours, discontinue use and call your physician).
I'm so sick of the commercialism of drugs, recruitment into the armed forces, and swaying my vote that I could puke. Literally. Now they're sure to come out with a new commercial to help ease the pain of watching commercials.
Egad! Unreined capitalism at its (best_worst)...-

Dems, Republicans, what's the fucking difference they are all fucking corrupt. Bunch of pansy ass fucking bullshitters.
-
Word up Mafioso. The people really need to take back the government. We keep slipping deeper and deeper into a corrupt "dictatorship" and NO ONE is doing anything about it. Its like the people dont even care. . .

Hmm, yes it isn't as though the Democratic candidates could refuse to take their money. Right?
