Climate in crisis: massive cracks found in Arctic by Canadian military
One of the expedition's scientists, Derek Mueller of Trent University, Ontario, told the BBC: "I was astonished to see these new cracks.
"It means the ice shelf is disintegrating, the pieces are pinned together like a jigsaw but could float away," said Dr. Mueller

THAT is scary. What's it going to take for these greedy people to stop driving SUVs?
What's it going to take for people to realize that beef consumption (and all the processing/water/food waste) is killing the planet?
-
It is so difficult to get people to realize that Climate Change is a threat.
-
This makes me so sad and angry. People are just ignoring it. This is a definitive sign of climate change.
Wake up!-

yeah, whilst it is slightly worrying that some parts of the world, florida, london and other areas will be underwater in the future, i have never thought it could get this bad. however scientists have no true way of knowing that this isnt just a heat up phase in between another ice age.
who is to blame for global warming? the only true answer is Homosapiens,(homo sapiens translates as man, the wise by the way) sure cows have their part, expelling vast amounts of methane ( so the above user doesnt really understand, its having a good effect)but for the most part, it is the factorys in places like china that havent figured out a way of producing sustainable highly efficient energy that are to blame.

We are in deeper trouble than we ever thought. Our historical lack of awareness about this global phenomenon is going to kick us in the ass. I worry for my children. This mess will be too big to clean up in one generation.
-
So how does expelling methane have a good effect? I'm a little unclear on that... I was sort of under the impression that large quantities of methane added to greenhouse gases which are excelerating the climate change...?
-
ARG!!!! Yet another evidence to be declaimed and denied by the greedy.
-
The fact that many parts of the world will be under water in the future is definitely not a SLIGHT worry. Hello? Scientists do have a way of knowing that this is not just another part of the warming/cooling cycle: it's called hard data. The warming phase has accelerated in the past few decades to a point where even a layman can see the clear trend toward an unusual temperature upturn. Look at the data, And please don't blame just China for all of this. Or cows, for God's sake. Like it or not, we are now a global community, and we have to deal with it as a united entity so we can give our children a healthy world with an abundance of resources and wonderful natural species to cohabitate with.
-
Well that's what happen's when Money is put first over the eco-system and we as the " Consumer" should buy product's first and worry about the world last. So don't blame the cow's in Iowa or fire's in Florida blame the Bank's and the consumer's(US) it's we who feed into there BullSh*t greed, and pretty soon we are gonna pay for it. Sad But true. Unless we act A.S.A.P..Until then WE are screwed.
-
It's completely ridiculous that this is still something that people are ignoring. At least more environmentally friendly products are being introduced. Even if, that doesn't mean people are using them! I worry for the next generation and even for the later half of my own.

Consumer control and Big Business control!
-
Ok people we are changing the world, we are just going to have to get used to it, humans are very adaptable and we will adapt to the new coastlines that are created. Places like Miami will become huge tourist attractions for their man made condo reefs.

Mathematically put; Consumption + Destruction + Time = Extinction. Soon the SUV will go by way of the buffalo.

Somebody please show this to Glenn Beck

This is so scary. People need to start realizing that this is a huge problem!

I think you could shove a melting iceberg in Glenn Beck's face and he'd still deny Global Climate Change.

Great the only things us Canadians do.... and its to tell the rest of the world we're all going to die.
-
Well, yeah, we're all going to die...sometime....but I vote for a ripe old age when we are ready. The thing is, we really do have a choice here. The problem is, however, that in order to stop this runaway environmental train to Hell is that we have to shift our entire focus from this grotesque military spending to taking care of all the crises we observe unfolding right before our eyes every day. Gas and food prices are a SYMPTOM of our problems. Our real problems lie with the way we ignore our own kids in this country, how we conveniently turn our faces away from the poor, the uninsured, the soldiers who come home emotionally wounded and can't function normally anymore....have you read about how our Iraq veterans are treated? They are burnt out, but not getting the excellent mental health treatment they truly deserve. Yes, we need to address the problems HERE AT HOME and stop playing "store" with the rest of the world. Russia and China are willing to do business with us, but some things never change....they have always hated us and always will. So, how do we make ourselves a stronger nation? Vote for change.

Curren89 its ok man you Canadians are great even if you have cracks in your glaciers. peace and love

It's pretty disturbing to hear scientists say that we could start seeing catastrophic results from global warming even in our generation's life time when you are my age and thinking about the possibility of having children. I would hate to raise my kids and know in death that the quality of our lives was questionable at best. Does anyone else's mind run to Solvent Green?

Oh yeah. I thought it was pronounced Solent Green. Ah, I'm probably wrong. But, I do agree with abaigeal that we do need to fix the problems we have @ home first. Does anyone noticed that America always intervens and help other countries in need but if our country sinks do you think they will help us?
-
Why do you people act like golbal warming equals death and destruction. I am in total agreement that global warming is taking place and is caused by man but I don't think it means the end of human life at all. Some places will become great places to live with the increase in temperature. So maybe there won't being skiing in Aspen anymore, no biggie.

The more that this news gets out and the more people know about it the better. We can no longer ignore this. The melting of the Artic ice at a pace that is going will have terrible consequences on our oceans. and to pass it off as a small thing is the understatement of the millenium.
-
And I was hoping to go up north one day and see the beauties of the tundra, but it looks like it'll be gone by the time I'm old enough to go and see it...or in the very least, a good chunk of it.
