" Tourists visiting the US face even tougher security checks now airport officials can search through mobile phones and laptops.
Guards can download any details contained in the items and keep them indefinitely, following a new court ruling. "
How far should the US Government go to secure the country? How far should the Governments be allowed to go? Terrorists win if we have to changes our Principles and rights in radical ways.
Freedom of Speech .... Rights to Privacy ... the rigth to be considered innocent UNTIL proven guilty!!
Sensitive information related to work or personal confidential information is my Private property right ! and US officials have no constitutional right to tap into and copy it...just incase! What happened to the need for warrents and the basic pillars of the legal system...oh yeah they got corrupted by the "misleadingly labled "Patriot Act"!!
Big brother is definetly watching and answerable to no one it seems as long as we remain silent!

Wait. An airport security guard can download anything they want from someone's laptop during a search?
Are you f*cking kidding me?! -
I can see trying to detect if they are a bomb or not. Most bomb laptops and cell phones had the battery removed and cannot be powered on, so we had to power on those devices. But this is taking it too far when they search laptops and cell phones for information. Many people travel with laptops and cell phones and work on things that have intellectual property rights, and if that IP falls into the wrong hands, they can steal works of art or stories or even patents.

I will never surrender my laptop or phone to a security guard at an airport...this is yet again another one freedom being taken away without any of our consent...The worst thing to happen to this country has been the Patriot Act...The government can do anything they want under the umbrella of our safety but yet they are taking all the things that we make us safe away...Our privacy, our freedoms everything

Yep Cheekywillie, Privacy may get your blood up, but I think the real discussions will be with my boss and my customers. And they probably thought they were on the same side as the US govt., surprise surprise.

Absolutely ridiculous...

This is insane. You'll be having to have your lawyer walk you through security next......that's actually an idea for a new business in this day and age!
