A McGill University study has found that cuddling with babies born prematurely can reduce the stress of operations that they must undergo.
Cuddling always makes me feel better.

Harlow's rhesus monkey experiments show us that babies like cuddling first and foremost. This does't surprise me that cuddling would relieve stress.

I certainly thought this was made evident quite sometime ago, but then there are new parents out there that weren't even born themselves when the Challenger blew up, so I suppose this is news to some people.
-
Yet they continue to keep premature babies in incubators. Sad. Unless necessary for breathing, incubators should not be used.
-
Cuddling is wonderful, but it's amazing how many females don't like it.

My daughter was born at 32 weeks, 20 years ago. We were told then how important cuddling was for a good out come.
-
it goes to show how important cuddling is. Thats why i wake up squeezing my stuffed dog everyday.

We have five senses for a reason, and touch is no less important than smell, taste, hearing, or vision. It makes complete sense then that vulnerable beings respond favorably to the warmth and tenderness of a loving touch.

I know allot of girls who went to McGill, for the most part they all liked cuddling. I love Montreal!
-
The human touch can be extremely important for these babies. So precious!
-
Cuddling reduces stress on people of all ages, not only on premature babies. It especially reduces stress on people who are ill, terminally ill, or dying. The human touch is primordial and vital to humans, although so many people simply survive without it.

Cuddling reduces stress on premature babies!
Isn't this obvious? -
i was actualy a premature baby, i was adopted from el salvador when i was a yr old.i was told that my foster mother and her family treated me as their own and cared for me very well. i hve seen pictures of the day my parents picked me up and my foster mother n family were all crying, my father said he had 2 rip me out of the young daughters hand because she dint want 2 let me go.
i am still only 5"3 but every thing else about be has been very healthy n i liked to believe that it was becasue of the love and care from them.
..i know cute right?ha-

My sister is visiting with her 3 month old baby - adorable beyond words. She loves it when I hold her tummy and rock her side to side. She giggles and moves her hands around as if to communicate how much fun she's having. Cuddling, talking, and laughing with your babies brings joy to their world and to yours.

its funny how new 'news items' like this are continually recycled... i can remember cuddling reported as being beneficial in regards to coke babies in the mid '80s.
it is horribly sad that something which is obviously common sense is apparently not. it is also interesting that resources ($$, time) are being given to studies proving this truth to be true while there are so many other areas in need of research.
