After building my house, my existing neighbors expected a better view of their own. I managed to leave most of it to nature... The deer still come, flora grows naturally wild and birds flock everywhere... Ignorance towards the planet abounds and I may be losing the battle front, but ... Take a look! Victory is in my back yard!
P.S. I'll be off the grid one day soon...

Actions or Observations...
The Choice is Yours......... -
Nice Photo! Action works for us. We are staying on the grid as the power company pays us for the solar power we put back in the grid. This way we share with our neighbors and we get paid for it. This should be made availabel and affordable to EVERYONE!

I'm jealous, I live next to a church that rings it's annoying bells on the weekend when I am trying to sleep in.

I love my back yard... but developers are cuting down all the treers around my neighborhood....... Its real sad because all the birds are going crazy looking for homes... so I've bought bird seed and left out neasting material throughout my yard. I hope they use it.......
I let you know if they do.-

Yeah, I'd really like to put up a Solar/wind turbine combo in my house, but I haven't the dough.

Great picture, I like that you are leaving the trees. Our house is on a small city lot. We can't afford solar at this time as much as we want it. We can afford trees. We have many planted. Our house faces the morning sun, so we could have a kind of free hand in what we planted. I always plant a magnolia grandiflora somewhere because I love them They remain green year around. In our front yard we have planted eight trees all bloom or flower at some time of the year. Because the morning sun isn't much of a problem heating up the house we could plant them for looks and just to help clean the air. We have plotted out where to plant trees to block the summer sun from the windows and shade the house and yard on the rest of our lot. We planted crepe Myrtle trees in the side yards because they are free bloomers in late spring and early summer pretty to see through the windows giving protection from the sun and deciduous allowing solar heat through the windows in the winter. Our back yard gets the hot Texas afternoon sun and wouldn't be usable without trees. Across the entire back of our house we have a patio covered with a lattice arbor. We grow five different kinds of wisteria on the arbor shading the patio and house. We tried a grape vine, and found it was a bad idea as it killed a couple of the wisteria and was terribly messy. When we tore it out our AC bill shot up over two hundred dollars a month. We have five trees in the rest of our small back yard. The whole yard is shaded in the spring, summer and up into late fall. We get plenty of sun in the winter because all the vines and trees lose their leaves. We actually use our yard year around, it helps clean the air and cut our use of electricity. We always have our morning coffee out on the patio, and it is a favorite place to relax. It didn't cost much because my husband built the arbor himself. Two of our front yard trees were kind of pricey, but all the rest were in the ten dollar range. We are the only people in this area that actually use our yard. Lots of people take chairs and sit in their garage to be outside. Doesn't look like much fun to me. Plant those trees water them and enjoy. You won't be sorry. One day We will get those solar panels, until then we are as green as we can be.

Planet BJR - what a natural and peaceful backyard. Send directions, we're coming for the weekend!
MM - Sounds like you have created an oasis that benefits you and the planet - and a great example for your neighbors. Sounds lovely!
The picture I use for my posts is the view out of my back door. Like Planet, we see deer in the mornings and evenings but it's Florida so there are gators too. I'd love to think everyone's back yard looked like Planet and MM's! -
Marilynn,
You and your husband shall be spared... lol
But seriously, you have helped to better this planet for everyone on it by taking a stance and acting on it. Garage? Don't get me started... you mean your neighbors actually have room left in their garages to lounge about???
Chique,
Gators are lovely... like Butterflies on my Planet... -
We live by a huge man made lake That has big alligators in it. I wonder where they came from. Surely they didn't walk because there is only one natural lake in Texas? It is Dallas's water supply and is too nasty to swim in.

My house backward is very clean! However my neighborhood it is not. At the present moment They are temporarily quiet, if I compare it with some other times. I am expecting that the other polluters; with exception of the Aircrafts and Muni Public Transportation; could be afraid to be the next SFPD Star or they are just ducking in for now.
