In a bizarre blunder by airport security officials in Tokyo a unwitting passenger has become the accidental recipient of over 142g of cannabis. A customs official stashed the cannabis in a passengers luggage while testing sniffer dogs. When the dog failed to detect the drugs the officer realised he could not remember which bag he had hidden the $10,000 (£5,000) worth of drugs in.

Using passengers bags for these tests is illegal in Japan . "I knew that using passengers' bags is prohibited, but I did it because I wanted to improve the sniffer dog's ability," the officer was quoted as saying. "The dogs have always been able to find it before... I became overconfident that it would work,"

I hope the sniffer dog in question isn't given a pat on the back, a golden handshake and shown the airport door.

We're all allowed one mistake right?

Interesting. I can only imagine the surprise on the passenger's face when he opened his bag.

142 grams of pot worth $10K. That works out to about $40,000 per pound. Must be some killer weed!

The article never mentions whether the weed was recovered or if the passenger got a big hit, I mean gift..

I thought this kind of stupidity only happened in the U.K? Let's hope the person notices the pot before they check their bag in again. The Japanese are quite strict on drugs. Even possessing a Vicks sinus spray can get you into trouble.

I always think they make those street values up to suit their needs, although this is one instance where the officials would want to play down the amount of Cannabis involved, rather than exaggerate it.

These days, getting busted at the airport can f*** up your year and, since using the old "I have no idea how that got in there" excuse hasn't worked in the history of drugs or law enforcement, I only hope he didn't get stopped when he got off his flight from Tokyo.

    This is just wrong...

Can't they get into trouble for messing with someone's personal luggage?

hah, most normal people would kill for that much weed after thier teenage years. most people lose thier numbers and forget where to get it, ask your parents if they still have thier dealers numbers :P

well tokyos damn expensive and it aint easy trafficing weed through orient countries like japan. :P then again they do tend to over measure the severity of marijuana so who knows what the street price is in there, the man/woman/child got some free weed in tokyo, score.
