That's the way it's done, good job Apple.
-
Cool! I'm going to be waiting in line to get one of these. I hope they come out with a solar power iPod.

That would be great in survival situations.

let's all hope this is a sign that apple will start applying an environmental ethos to their other products as well, which currently use highly toxic materials. I doubt we'll see this concept in reality within the next few years, though.
-
Apple is a mind reader and knows exactly what consumers want, great and green products. Definitely saving up money for this! And so the crowd cheers...

Yes, survival situations,
I remember when I was lost in the wilderness and all I had was a knife, a flint, and my iBook. But when I tried to YouTube Bear Grylls instructions on how to use the knife and a flint to start a fire, the battery died while playing the intro... so I ate the snake raw.
Since then I promised my self I'll never go to my local pet store ever again.

This is amazing. Why did they not think of this sooner? I mean solar power calculators have been around since I was a kid.
-
its an amazing idea in my opinion. Having solar powered portable machine that we can use anywhere is great. I mean i would love to be able to take my psp anywhere, not worrying if the batteries are gonna go out.

Hey people, you know we all owe Al Gore, who sits on Apple's Board of Directors, not to mention the Grand-daddy of Current TV, a debt of gratitude. Me thinks he's encouraging Apple and Stevie Jobs himself to green-up, think big and be smarter. Thank you, Mr. Gore.
-
good because their battery sucks totally, never been able to go over two hours!

This technology would be more fitting for Panasonic Toughbook's. The pretentious pricks known as Apple customers are rarely far from a power-outlet, and if you're about to say how it's better to use solar power when possible, well then why aren't we using it to power almost everything?
This technology is years off to being at the level needed to satisfy the average customer, and has very little if anything to do with our beloved advertising/computer company, but apparently since it's Apple after all, they can patent obscure concepts like solar-panels on top of a laptop, and then wait to cash in on their monopoly.

I love that they're putting they're inovative talent to good use. I look forward to the answer to global warming.
-
Freedom from the power companies as well as from big brother gates..
Now if only they could score free internet service...
-
What a great idea... a pity apple patented it so they the only ones who can use it (or at least thats what it sounds like) :P looks like i will never see what a solar power laptop is like now
THANKS apple :D~~~~
-
I think there should be laws which prohibit companies from placing patents on technologies which involve common sense.
To me, this seems equivalent to filing a patent for use of batteries in mobile devices.
I think it's disappointing that Apple are choosing to patent environmentally beneficial technologies. Sooner or later, solar power technology will come of age - I don't think any company should have a monopoly on it's use.
-
totally agree with what you saying Iwhi it was what i was thinking.. but with all these smug comments flying around this thread, about how great apple was i thought a sarcastic approach was best :D
-
bad memories of blue solar powered calculators with red buttons. and by the way those things NEVER worked. ICK!

This is great because their laptops loose battery life too quickly. I'm still using the iBook G4 so it will probally be a long time until I can afford one though.

Love apple, but I agree, their laptops don't hold battery power well. Whether or not it's a long time coming, it's a good idea seeing as with all the unsecured wireless networks, I'd be able to use my laptop on the beach without having to plug up. They always seem to be on top of things. I am definitely one of those annoying fans.
-
I don't like Apple blindly, like some, but this is a really good idea and hopefully it won't be rot with problems like their Iphone.
-
Ok lets be serious. How is this actually a good idea? I have thought of this, and so have millions of other people. "yay good job Apple, you guys are so innovative" umm not. They shouldve done this sooner, and now it sounds like other companies will have to pay them to use solar power on their laptops.
Dont get me wrong, Im glad they are FINALLY doing it, but saying its innovative and Apple had such great ideas is lame, because this is hardly their idea.

People would be mad if they didn't go this route and they are seemingly mad that they did because it's not their idea.
I dislike when people place companies or other people in a lose-lose situation because the person doing it can't be satisfied.
