Mae Sot, a Southeast Asian trading town on the Thai-Burma border, is one of the places to find out what's happening in Burma (or Myanmar) these days. Despite the military government' promise to hold multi-party elections in 2010, Burmese refugees and resistance fighters say the crackdown on dissent in far from over.

  • I've had the experience last summer going to mae sot and myanmar, it's amazing how myanmar is like thailand but 20 years behind by the looks of the buildings, everything looks run down, I also taught english to Karen Tribe Refugees, who were lucky enough to gain the opportunity to get an education out of the many refugees located at the Mae Lah refugee camp not to far from the school i visited
