"Children who are exposed to lead at a young age are more likely to be arrested later in life."

I stabbed my hand once with my pencil as a kid. The lead is still embedded in my skin.

I say this so that you all watch your backs...

  • Crazy! VSikos, we have some kind of mind-meld because I just heard this on NPR this morning and was running to my computer to clip it for Current.com.

Basically the study shows that even though lead paint was banned in 1978, many older buildings in the inner cities have a lot of lead paint residue from before the ban. That, and other exposure to lead in childhood actually results in children having smaller brains! The parts that are missing have to do with impulse control and stuff like that, which if you don't have, can lead to violent or antisocial behavior later.

    Scary!

Why don't they tear down all them old buildings and build the poor folks new ones with no lead?

It's really in the Republicans' best interests to do this...because when their kids grow up, there'll be less criminals around to break the car windows of their kids' Beemers and Mercedeses.

  • Actually, Julie, it's good for business at the ol' "Haliburton house of horror", the medical profession and for pharmi's sellin' drugs to "treat" and keep the 'perps' under control.

It keeps employed: police; prosecutors; judges; lawyers; court reporters; shoot the list just goes on and on. The legal and law enforcement profession is a multi-billion dollar a year industry.

Makes for a nice food chain doesn't it? And like all ambitious entrepreneurs in any industry, there are those who seek to expand it, making it ever bigger.

Without going into all the flaws of the system, I'm not anti-law enforcement / judicial system exactly, just I'm against the government "ruling" the people instead of serving the people. I just thought I'd take this opportunity to rattle on.
