Noise, the invisible pollutant, has been blamed for everything from hypertension and learning difficulties, to suicide. More than a decade ago, Health Canada labelled noise as a "real and present danger."

Marketplace ran a series of tests on noise levels the average Canadian encounters at home. We discovered the noise problem is not getting any better.

  • Noise pollution causes so many health problems, it must be part of the agenda. To drive us all crazy.

  • You certainly have a point there Jubal! There are many issues behind it for sure! The fact is that people under these false acoustic stress consume more than they need. The ones that like it are addicted to over stimulation somehow. What really surprises me is that our own Government embraced it knowing it is not legal. It was and it is a dictatorial power grab! Dr. Bronzaft it is a Hero in the area of Acoustic Education. I had the privilege to meet her personally when I was in New York! She is a terrific human being, full of life and wisdom!

  • If I would have read this story in a mainstream paper or heard it on a local news channel, I would have laughed (specifically at the "baby muffs" suggestion) and turned the page/channel. But seeing it here and viewing your responses, I am intrigued enough to know more, especially since I live in a very noisy urban neighborhood and work all day in an office with significant "white noise" (which I have always preferred over offices that are eerily quiet), so I suppose I should pay attention. Any suggestions for further reading?

My job is to expose the true to you not to push you to do anything else! It is of your own interest to do a further research on the subject. If you look in my profile I am sure you will find some more stuff on the subject. There are several forms of acoustic pollution. Many times what is music to some can be an unwanted noise for others. Acoustic Pollution is not any different from Second Hand Smoking! The say it is: "When some one starts to make you a captive of their actions there is where you should draw the line and stand up for your rights."
