It's also a good thing Obama wants us to dismantle our nuclear weapons as well.

Yes, lets hope he MEANS it. I think he mght, but you know politicians... Or do you???
hahaha -
great idea, but i can't support it.
the basic assumptions seem to be that if enough nations sign on, "all of the bad guys" will go along, and i think that's nonsense.
nuclear weapons are "merely" the biggest, baddest weapons humans have yet developed. they were developed in order to out-do any and all other enemies at the time they were created, in order to end a war.
once the genie was out of the bottle, physicists anywhere in the world could figure out how to make more of them, and it was "just" another arms race, the same way that guns beat swords and automatic weapons beat rifles. nukes are, in my prayers, just the "final step" in destructive weaponry.
but until you can figure out how to reduce FEAR for a nation, they'll continue to try to develop weapons to defeat their enemies, real or imagined. and if a country's leaders [or citizens] think some other country's leaders or citizens want to take them over, they're going to put resources into whatever they think will stop that enemy.
real or imagined.
i hope your efforts are fruitful, but i wouldn't invest a nickel's bet on success.
end the fear = end the wars.
and for most of the world today, end religious intolerance = end the genocides and fear of them.
peace to all of you, too.... -
To add to that, ironically, a lot of countries want nuclear weapons so that they can sit at the bargaining table with the rest of the 'Big Dogs'...and demand the respect that they feel they deserve...while they presume to discuss Peace...
Good luck with this effort. It may be the toughest obstacle you'll ever attempt to hurdle... -
I signed it, but I am not sure how much good it will do. Like Plato said, there are so many countries that equate nuclear with respect.

Yes, I see your point, but if we don't lead by example, how can we expect other to follow?
Once we disband with nuclear, we're still left with PLENTY to enforce other with. Nuclear is a sure recipe to wipe YOURSELF out.
Once you push the button, they push the button, etc...
So, if you think keeping weapons THAT destructive around, YOU are living in fear.
If you think using these weapons is smart, you probably think suicide is smart. (if you really add it all up.)
Yes, PEACE. -
NEVER GIVE UP.
No Matter what is going on, never give up.
Develop the heart.
Too much energy in your country is spent developing the mind instead of the heart.
Be compassionate.
Not just to your friends, but to everyone.
Be compassionate.
Work for peace in your heart and in the world.
Work for peace and I say, never give up.
No matter what is going on around you
NEVER GIVE UP.
