Italian police say they have traced down phone calls by CIA agents in connection with the 2003 abduction of an Egyptian cleric in Milan.
Testifying in the trial of 26 Americans who are mostly CIA operatives, head of the Italian anti-terrorism police in Milan, Bruno Megale, recalled tracking numerous cellular telephone calls to support Europe's only prosecution of the Bush administration's disputed counter-terrorism tactic known as extraordinary rendition.
Megale explained how police, given judicial warrants, used cellphone logs, wiretaps and intercepted e-mails to trap a CIA station chief, a US Air Force colonel, five American diplomats and officers from Italy's military intelligence service accused of collaborating with the Americans.

interesting story that I think probably happens more often than we'd like or can acknowledge.
"Now it is said the cleric was apparently nabbed by a CIA squad that threw him in a car, put him on a private jet at a US military base in north Italy and sent to Egypt, from where he contacted home 14 months later, telling his wife and friends what had happened and that he was tortured."
Is torture par for the course now with these undercover SOBs??? The secret service like a rabid dog needs to be put down with extreme prejudice.
"Senior Italian police officials in Milan have expressed resentment at the CIA move to nab Abu Omar without informing them and before their investigation of his activities had been completed."
The CIA is an American nightmare...
