Will the Bush Administration ever be held accountable

In light of Scott McLellan's latest allegations of Bush Administration wrong doings, will the music ever catch up to this current administration? They have evaded everything from unlawful wars, environmental destruction, ignoring global warming, unlawfully stealing two elections, driving the economy into the ground, making torture lawful, pardoning Scooter Libby and the list goes on. It all makes Clinton's infidelity look like a sin worthy of heaven. After all the deceit, will they ultimately get away with the biggest bag of transgressions ever levied by any administration? Bets are they will and how will this all be rectified ..

  • I pray to every God ever known to man that the Bushies are held accountable. To hell with them all for eternity. They need to be put on trial and prosecuted as law provides, even though they have no respect for the law.

  • Robroy brings up a good point. the law.

Everyone is wrong from time to time. Everyone is greedy from time to time. Everyone acts self-interestedly at times. Some people have more power and authority than others. But no one should assume their power supercedes the law, which is what the Bush Admin has done.

Law, in effect, is the only thing we have.

  • Yes, just long, long after he and his family members have been dead for about 100 years and historians look back and say WTF?!

  • no they wont get away with it, just wait more people like mcclellan will come forward, they will pay

  • We should impeach both Cheney and Bush. I hope we have enough people with the courage and determination to do it. Then the rest will fall into place. There will be prison for those that should get it. If we don't the World Court will.
  • I wish I knew why it is so impossible to impeach him and his whole cabinet.

...and dressers and closets, and any other furniture they may have.

  • The world has been living through an 8 year nightmare. But the only way that Bush and Co will be held accountable for their crimes is if we, the people of the U.S. DEMAND it. Our government has shown that they will not act alone. It is our responsiblility to follow through on this. So please take the time to do something. Write a letter to your senator, your local newspaper, plant a sign in your yard and most importantly vote for the person you feel will take action against these criminals. The duty is not congress' but ours as citizens.

  • i was just thinking about this while jogging today... why is it so difficult? why are the democrats just sitting on their hands? why aren't they outraged? why hasn't impeachment already happened? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH OUR GOVERNMENT

  • As much devisive hatred that there is from the radical left he would already be rotting away in a prison if he had actually violated any ACTUAL laws. He hasn't though, all he's done is piss off left wing bloggers and violated how they WANT a law to be interpreted. You morons keep flinging poop at him like a zoo monkey and are just foaming at the mouth because nothing is sticking, go ahead, keep trying.

Sorry, I have no problem with tapping international phone transmissions, I have no problem making a prison stay tough and un-enjoyable for suspected terrorists, I have no problem with a threat of force on asshats like ahmadenijad, and I have no problem with the US gov't getting sick and tired of husseins sabre rattling and removing him from power. Did the Bush administartion fuck up on the Iraq exit strategy, yea, I'd say so. Thankfully they are trying new things to correct it instead of cutting and running like you surrender monkeys would prefer.
  • Yeah just like Scooter Libby and Karl Rove were held accountable for their lies. Dream on it will not happen.

  • I dont think they will be held accountable because he hasnt been in the 8 years he has been in office. Eventhough the people of america have demanded that he an his parters in CRIME are held accountable. Also our great congress are all a bunch of cowards. They have had to power and the motive to shut this nut down for a very long time and they have done nothing.

  • I just don't know how the son and grandson of a Nazi sympathyzer ever became presidents.

  • I'm absolutely amazed that he got reelected even though he had to cheat. If the people are ever able to take our government back from the corporations, the follies of the Bush administration will make a good history lesson. I believe a fascist state is characterised by an elite class that has all the power and money but no scruples.

  • Your always good for a laugh Liberal_Extinction as you never really sound all that well informed but often very ample with trashing a community that knows how to have a conversation. We need clowns in life to make us laugh. Thanks for that.

  • ..So,,, I was listening to Thom Hartman's show today and some of the conversation was around the idea that impeachment was not enough and that maybe the strategy makes more sense to put him and all the little rascals on trial for murder and war crimes after he is out of office.

I think bringing these people to justice right now will just swamp the American mind into chaos and what we need to get clear on first is get this election right. When we get that in place I bet the flood gates are gonna open up and they will all be flushed out.

    i hope.

  • Since when do rich white men hold each other accountable for breaking the law? Don't hold your breath on this one, you'll probably suffocate.

That said, they have done more than enough to rot in jail for the rest of their natural born lives.

BTW Liberal Extinction, Bush is a public figure in a high executive office so it is to be expected that some people will "disapprove of his job performance", to say it politely. He is subject to some public ridicule just like senators, congressmen, and other members of our government. It's the same reason why you can freely make negative comments about Obama.

I won't debate semantics with you, it is a fruitless cause. I will say that you should probably re-read international laws and U.N. Geneva Convention guidelines before you say he didn't violate any actual laws.
  • The Bush Administration will never be held responsible. The public's will to stand up was burned out during the Clinton Administration... when oral sex was an impeachable offense.

  • If Ron Paul gets elected they will.... but they probably stole enough money to buy their way out of any jam they encounter. who knows...

  • Hell lifestudentno83, I DISAPPROVE of the job he's done while in office, don't get me wrong. I'm not playing GWB cheerleader, he's just not the criminal mastermind you people tout him to be out of one side of your mouth while touting him to be the biggest absolute moron that has walked the face of the earth out the other. He's far from the perfect president but the level you conspiracy theory alarmists carry it to is absolutely f'ing ridiculous.
  • i seriously doubt that this current (no pond intended)administration will ever be held accountable for its actions. Within the whole shady situation of things, the Bush administration, there have been tons of toms of things that could put the lot of them behind bars.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if more criticisms of the Bush administration from the inside like McLellan will come out after January 2009. It would be well-worth it to hear what the many WH aides have to say when the fear of Bush/Cheney Almighty no longer holds sway.

  • It's up to God to hold him accountable when he leaves this earth. It's up to 'us' while here on Earth. We still have the power to change things. We have the power of the purse to get media to change course and stop spinning distorted facts. Sponsors will not want to spend their advertising dollars on programming that is exposed for distorting facts.

When we view things that are untrue, we need to post it, enabling others to react and campaign sponsors of such programming for change. The republicans used boycotting to get Rachael Ray's commercial for a scarf they didn't like. The commercial was pulled.

We need voices who get attention to take an active roll in promoting change.

  • Liberal Extinction:

I used to think he was an idiot, but then now I tend to think he's smarter than I give him credit for so you could say I'm party to that thought process. And I'll definely agree that he is a horrible president, possibly the worst in history.

But the consipracies don't even start at Bush... or at least not this one. Still, there are more powerful people controlling him. No matter how smart or dumb he really is, I still don't think he is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Overall, you can't really blame me for not putting complete trust in the government. I don't think they've always been forthcoming with the truth and have hidden facts from us. I respect your opinion, that's just how I feel about it.
  • Bush being held accountable, all depends on who's in the white house next. I doubt anything will ever happen.

  • I'll admit it, I am a conspiracy theorist, and Bush isn't in charge. I don't think they staged 9/11 they way some folks do, but I definitely think there's a fundamentalist core out there that goes way back who believe they are better than everyone else, or that they have some right to be in charge, or that they're doing what's best.

Whatever ideology they do subscribe to, its the kind that thinks it needs to undermine people's freedoms because the people can't rule themselves, and the longer I watch this crap, the more I'm beginning to think maybe there's some truth to that.

However I believe the ends do not justify the means, and I honestly don't agree with the overall values of people on the far extreme right. I would like less regulation too, except there's too many people and regulation has become a necessity. But instead of separating myself from the rest and treating people unequally, I believe we're all in this as one species, and policies like the Bush admin. have implemented in the last 8 years have seriously compromised the values and principles this nation was founded on.

Of course, keep in mind, there's always two sides to the story (we did steal this nation from other people after all). Actually, I like to think there's three sides to every story--my side, your side, and the truth.

As far as holding anyone accountable, I think the lack of that in the last 8 years only shows how far away we've gotten from any sort of decent values. I think mass entertainment and suburban life have made us comfortable and vulnerable. If anything, we may look back in twenty years and go, "Oh shit, we should have stopped this while we had the chance..."

  • Well, if they are not impeached, and they are not tried for their war crimes, it is highly unlikely that ANY of them will live to enjoy the fruits of their deception. The thing about this administration, and the one before it, is that they have a tendency to kill each other off when they are finished with each other, and it is obvious to anyone who has watched dubyah speak, he is not the mastermind behind anything he is getting credit for.

Debating his intelligence is like debating the IQ of a chimp...his handlers did not choose him for his intelligence...obviously. They deliberately chose someone who would be vulnerable to the sort of rhetoric that produces statements like "I am the decider"...and when it comes time to pay for those decisions, the masterminds behind him will certainly let him take the heat for the decisions that he has so witlessly embraced.

  • Funny thing about sure things - they ain't. They ain't sure to get away with it - as history shows.

True, America is unique, and despite our damaged country and drained economy, we can rebound like a cobra and make things right by all.

Dream it and make it reality - it's already begun.

  • He's the new teflon president! Please ask any republican and they do not blame him for the state of our country they still think its Clinton's fault. I swear, I have heard that one pretty recently!

  • I'm interested in hearing guys think would be actual justice. I don't personally believe in the death sentence, or an eye for an eye style of punishment, and just can't imagine anything that would ever make that man land the people behind him ook back and reflect on the lives they've ended and the lives they've endangered. What do you guys think would be justice served?
    Sara_Airey
  • Let's go basic here. Checks and balances? Ring a bell? From that class you took in high school, U.S. Government? Why was he never 'checked'? And why was the power never 'balanced'?

We can ask here all day, everyday, til his days in the office are over. But by the end of it all, nothing's changed.
    pogschampion
  • he and people like him will only be held accountable after they're long and gone or too old to face the music. history may expose him in the long run, but what good are a few annotations in a book when people like him avoid prosecution all the time?

  • We as Americans need to DEMAND ‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’! If I could afford to do it, I would start a new ‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’ campaign. I would have red, white and blue bracelets made up with ‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’ printed on them and sell them to all Americans who want justice. I would use the proceeds to buy our own lobbyists to get our voices heard in Washington. I would try and hire individuals like Richard Clark and others to push for ‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’.

Lobbyists work so well in Washington, we could afford our own. We could send free ‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’ bracelets to our representatives. We could send them to individuals with voices that are heard by mainstream media to spread the word. WE WANT OUR OWN LOBBYISTS, ‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’ is too important to put off till tomorrow!

We need to let Americans know we are trying to change things now! We can’t wait till the next election. America is still using voting machines that have been proven hackable. In 2004 important facts were delayed for the election, that has to change, we are always in campaign mode. Justice denied for a campaign is not working. Justice today is what we need. ‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’ IS WHAT WE NEED TO CHANGE AMERICA TODAY!

‘ACCOUNTABILITY NOW’ bracelets would help us buy our own lobbyists!

  • Soooo Connie what your really saying is that you would fix a washington full of political prostitutes by throwing more political prostitutes into the mix? Yea, that should fix it.

  • Liberal_Extinction, Prostitutes is a distraction term. If you meant it as an insult, your barking up the wrong tree. I would hope I could get individuals with voices to join our efforts, who want 'ACCOUNTABILITY NOW' also.

I want individuals who want change also. The wrist band would be a way to pass the message on.

Liberal_Extinction, what would be your suggestion? Or, don't you agree, we need 'ACCOUNTABILITY NOW'?
