"When the artists Jake and Dinos Chapman bought a series of paintings by Adolf Hitler for £115,000, many questioned the morality of paying for works produced by one of history’s most brutal dictators.
Yesterday, the brothers unveiled 13 of the watercolours, on which they had added psychedelic rainbows, stars and love hearts, and placed them back on the market for £685,000..."

Utter stupidity and destruction of art.
These men should be gassed.
I'm not a Nazi, but I happend to like a few paintings done by Adolf Hitler. Now these self-stlyed "artist" fucked them up.
I'd like to lay into them with an ice-pick. No really, I'm serious. -
Go JAKE and DINO...
i think this is hilarious, they did similar with Goya etchings and it also caused an uproar!
HIGH ART....if you like the chapman brothers or not, you have to admire their anarchy...-

i fully support this,
The social commentary is art in itself, although I'm sure this was premeditated to 'increase' the value.
I mean how many 'artists' have bastardized Warhol?
Anyone read Vonnegut's "Deadeye Dick"?-

This is comparable to paint splashing in museums, where "artist's" go into a museum with a mouth full of paint and spray it onto famous paintings. Also, what is the fascination with Hitler when we have a world full of dictator's now? i.e. Bush, Kim Jong Il, and that guy from Iran?
-
Usually "it's you break it you buy it" not "you buy it you break it"... good for them , as if Hitler needs to be remembered as a compassionate artist... how many artists did he have sent to gas chambers in the name of his so called "master Race" ? you want to defend Hitler? get in line for your smack in the face moron or join the Republican Party.

hmmm isn't there a copyright on all things art? If I as a artist (be it musician, painter or whatever) sell a piece I consider art, don't I still own the right to decide if my art can be altered?
There have been quite a few cases concerning this question in Germany and as far as I know in all cases the artist won...-

Haha that's awesome. No doubt Hitler is rolling around in his grave, or his frozen head is rotating in its cynlinder in the CIA basement. Or whatever.
I love the huge profit the artists are making as well. I believe in the biz that's referred to as "value-added." There's your legacy, Adolf! Rainbows! Eat that! Haha I love it. -
Hitler may have been a tool, but the art should have remained in its original state.
-
hitler doesnt deserve to be remembered for anything beautiful.. he is not welcome in the living room of our society..
-
Altering history like this is not a safe practice even when it includes defacing Hitler. These so called "artists" also defaced work by Goya, and are attempting to "try something new" in the art's world, which only adds up to shock value. Hitler + Anything = shock value.
-
I can’t believe someone would be outraged at this. By god quit being a tool. This is awesome
-
Why? I realized he did horrible things. But does "eye for an eye" really work? 9/11 - what happened there? I couldn't care less who the damn painter was, it just feels wrong to deface other people's art.
-
THIS IS HILARIOUS!!! ITS NOT JUST ABOUT HITLER REALLY...(or actually not at all)... ITS ABOUT ART AND ANARCHY - IF THEY COULD HAVE GOT HOLD OF PAINTINGS BY GHANDI THEY WOULD HAVE PROBABLY PAINTED GUNS IN HIS HANDS AND RIDING ON A CRUISE MISSILE!
but how could they pass up an opportunity to do something in collaberation with one of the most huge murderers in the world???
you have to see the humour!-

I don’t think an eye for an eye truly sums up this story. Hitler brutally murdered millions. These guys doodled on his crappy artwork.
-
He had talent that the art institute in German turned down. Had they accepted him he wouldn't, most likely, have become who he did.
His art represents who he could have been and hating on that doesn't make one a hero. -
Oh ok the blame rests with the German art institute. Ok I get it. Damn those fascist art teachers who didn’t mold Hitler into a respectable artist. If it wasn’t for them he never would have been involved with the Nazi party who then told him exactly what he should believe. A tool no matter how well shaped still has a choice.
Art is the expression of a sole individual. Hitler on the other hand was heavily dependent on what other people told him. While he might have been a talented painter he at heart was no artist. -
Hilarious but I don't know if I agree with ruining perfectly good art- no matter who produced it.

i completely agree with people supporting hitler. we shouldn't destroy any art. when i was a kid, i drew a picture of what i thought my mum would look like in 80 years time and she wasn't happy and she destroyed it. the nazi. so i think all art, even if its made by satan himself brainwashing us to kill people different from us or, you know, whatever, it should be KEPT. Because, don't you think that destroying painting is worse than only killing a few million jews? seriously, guys, how harsh can you get! stop making his paintings look nice you sickos. disgraceful. even if he did burn everyone else's artistic work. oh, and the jews bit? did i forget to mention them? and the communists, homosexuals, disabled people, old people, gypsies, romanians, slavs, polish? yeah but don't destroy his art that's just mean with a capital M: Mean.

That's right, blame the art and punch it in the face. Hope you feel better. Anger upon anger doesn't equal happy.
-
Blah. It wasn't destroyed, no more than music is "destroyed" when a DJ remixes it. And this isn't a new thing either; plenty of contemporary artists have experimented with "remixing" art. Welcome to the 21st century of art; Web 2.0 isn't just an internet phenomena.
-
Its silly to think that any work of art is less ephemeral than raindrops or snowflakes. The Mona Lisa is only 500 years old and its a full time job to try and keep it from deteriorating. Given time it will fade and crumble away just like everything else, deal with it.

@Ricky84
Hitler Created the Nazi Party from the small German Workers party (DAP) turning it into the National socialist german workers party(NSDAP), he was the creator, organised, leader and dictator of the party from the start, no-one, ever told Hitler what to do.
@J_Jammer
you can't look at someone for what he could have been with compassion, you have to look at who they are. Hitler's true love was the army, and it was through the army that he was introduced to the German Workers Party, he was sent in as a spy for the amry, who were monitoring extremist party's all over bavaria. He crossed over to persue a polital future when his speaking ability was recognised as he verbally attacked a speaker at a DAP meeting, and from then on, more or less, the Nazi party was born..
had he been accepted at the school of art, he most likly would have joined the army, as he had planned for a long time, putting him straight on the path of the 'Fuhrer' -
Let’s not argue semantics. It doesn’t matter that Hitler became the chairman of the future Nazi party The man was not original. He borrowed his ideas and tactics largely from those around him.
-
Wonderful social commentary. Let's build off of the ruins of the past and create love and peace. Hooray for them!
