"The attorneys general said that allowing same-sex marriages now could unnecessarily open the door to legal challenges from gay residents of other states who get married in California. Upon returning to their home states, the newlyweds could demand equality in everything from tax-filing status to testimonial privileges in civil suits, the attorneys general said.
“Absent a stay of the mandate in this case, that number will certainly be very large indeed,” Mark L. Shurtleff, the Utah attorney general, wrote on behalf of the group in a letter delivered on Thursday and released publicly on Friday. “And unnecessarily so if a majority of California’s voters favor in November the proposed ballot measure.”
So basically the homophobic states are afraid gay people may end up with equal rights despite the homophobic constitutional amendments passed in those states.
There is little indication the court will stay it's decision.

States should follow in the footsteps of Governor Paterson of New York - he made a decree that any and all out of state marriages, gay or straight, will be recognized in New York.
-
Some states are just hellbent on remaining ignorant bigots, they fear what they don't understand and have no place living in a land that claims to be free and the home of the brave.

People got to realise what god really thinks about gay marrage. Hebrew 13:4 says, “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” All sexual sins (i.e. promiscuity, adultery, homosexuality, prostitution, etc.) John McCain is the only cannidate that will fufill our presidents war on immorality. What we need in these endtimes is a good strong coneretive anti-libaral, who holds true to the word of our lord. I really hope WHEN McCain becomes president he lives up to the republican platform and ends aborshion, criminalizes gay sex and marrage and stops de-regulasion. We need to invade andor nuke iran and all these terriorists before its too late. This is exacly what the bible pridected would happen if the world fell away from his word. Armegeddon is close at hand we must stop them as a global force and unite christians and live as the word would tell us. and wage war against the non-beilevers and democarats and libarals. "The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked." (Psalms 58:10)

Armageddon is a war. According to the bible, it cannot be stopped for it is the word of the Lord in and of itself. See Revelations.
"Nuking Iraq" would kill the American soldiers that are stationed there, fool.
Gay sex is already criminal-ized, as are most "straight" sex acts in many states. In Washington it is illegal to have sex with virgins for example - figure that one out.
The word of the Lord has, by now, been so obscured by the Vatican and Governments, it is foolish to wish things back to the way they were. See King James and how he changed the original bible.
aborshion is spelled Abortion
de-regulasion is spelled de-regulation
libarals is spelled Liberals
Once you learn how to use spell checker, and have a valid argument, and maybe move to the north, then you will be taken seriously.
The whole post is an oxymoron, according to your "beliefs". -

Equality!
Oh, noes!
How dare they even so much as ask for equal representation under the law in a country whose constitution plainly says that all people are equal.

In a country where we support a multitude of religions, how can we dare say that gay marriage is unorthodox and ungodly. If that was such an issue the religions would be warring with each other in American to push for the "right" religion to be preached to all of the country. The point of freedom of religion is everyone has the right to practice whatever beliefs they have, marriage included.

"The point of freedom of religion is everyone has the right to practice whatever beliefs they have, marriage included."
That's not the point of freedom of religion at all. I think you're confusing "practicing one's beliefs" with "exercising one's rights." I can believe that shinning laser pointers at airplanes pleases God, but that doesn't make it any less illegal.-

Homophobia as I see it:
Tim likes dudes. I want Tim to burn in hell.
OR...
Tim likes dudes. Uh-oh, I think I might like dudes too. Therefore, I want Tim to burn in hell.
What the f*** people? If you're homophobic for either religious or personal reasons, isn't the prospect of them burning for all eternity in an imaginary fire pit good enough for you? -
well gay people are allowed to live like normal citizens and pay taxes why not let them get married.
the bible also says:
"Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned, forgive, and ye shall be forgiven."
~Luke 6:37~
and
"For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another."
~1 John 3:11~ -
Save for Japan, the US is the most technology advanced country, however, it is amazing how far they are behind the other common law countries on social issues. Try as I might, I am unable to ascertain why the gays marrying is the end of civilisation as we know it.... there are more important things to be concerned about, i.e. food and fuel prices.
-
Once again CA leads the way. Other states not having the nads to deal with their own issues is really not CA's problem.
-
People can marry here in Canada.
Big fuckin deal. -
and still more and, more ways religion teaches hate. It's now time to embrace people's different sexual preferences, and to stop assuming that everyone is the same religion, and their religion is the only one.
-
so many people and states are retarted. get w/ the times, you ALWAYS lose, when it comes to discriminating against someone's skin color, sex, or sexual orientation. you can fight it, but you will ALWAYS lose.
100% rights for every human being, anyone against it, deserves to have their rights suspended, see how it feels, how about a free water boarding lesson on uncle sam, you scum bag religious freaks.-

I have a very good friend, we are both gay, and his BAPTIST church in memphis, tn is not gay bashing. they are supportive, because they understand the text that so many claim they do.
Jesus associated with prostitutes, that ought to say something about his character.
Funny how in a few thousand (million?)) years, we are still caught up on the same old rhetoric. -
Keep fighting, other states!!!

Amen brother... Rights are given by god himself, If you wanna know about who diserves rights just read the bible... Nowhere in it does it say gays should have the same rights as straight people. And god is the ultimate law... If we dont follow the word of the lord and pass laws condoning immoritality. We will soon face the wrath of god. Aids, child molestashion and a backword family values, and musicals... I suggest that all who truly belive in a greater power of Jesus Christ gather toghether and fight for the rights of god fearing americans to not have to have homos causing soo much sin and immorality.
STOP ABORSHION NOW!
JESUS LOVES YOU!
EVEN GAY SINNERS!
Give your life to christ and he will show you the way to the good life and remove all of your sins and you will know the love of a true and just life.. and only then yee shall see the the plan and the lite of the lord Jesus Christ.
