Can't fly because of a picture of a gun on teeshirt

'This poor guy tried to board a BA flight at Heathrow terminal 5 but was turned back and told to change out of his t-shirt, which featured a Transformer robot carrying a gun -- a robot with a gun that apparently posed a threat to flight safety.

"Go through security, get pulled to the side. I'm wearing a French Connection Transformers t-shirt. Bloke starts joking with me is that Megatron. Then he explains that since Megatron is holding a gun, I'm not allowed to fly. WTF? It's a 40 foot tall cartoon robot with a gun as an arm. There is no way this shirt is offensive in any way, and what I'm going to use the shirt to pretend I have a gun?"'

  • Pathetic!!!!!!!! Can you say Censorship?

“Terrorists Be Warned” don’t wear shirts with guns on them.

  • Absolutely unbelievable.... but there again

  • Whats it gonna do? Transform into a gun, shoot all the passengers and back into a 100% cotton t-shirt? Autobots Rule!

  • I was trying to work this one out.

I suppose (_suppose_) that in a panic situation, someone could cause confusion with a reasonably realistic rendering of a gun on their shirt.

But this seems very, very unlikely to me.

this has gone too far... for God's sake, how can this be a possible threat?
    pat_suquet
  • How very ridiculous, that's clearly OPtimus Prime.
It's situations like these that show how the government's own terrorism paranoia is more damaging than actual terrorist attacks.

  • Clearly it's a cartoon character as well, what's the big deal? are they that trigger happy? Let's all Panic it's a cartoon gun , OMG Run!

  • We have sunk to a new level of stupidity...

Does my "classic" Star Wars t-shirt with the light sabre on the front from count as a knife.

Does a game boy with decent sound constitute a threat.. they might think Mario is out really jump through the roof of the plane and take it down.

Stop the world I want to get off.
  • That is bullshit. Who ever decided that was having a really bad day.
  • (sigh) truley, this is over-the-top

  • Somebody's being a Deceptacon!

Your 1st Amendment right and your 2nd Amendment right are not the same right. (that's why one is 1st and the other is 2nd) I really can't see how this action can be justified.

I don't think that Transformers can turn into T Shirts and then on a flight suddenly transform back into its original form and start attacking the passangers.
    JCantrell
  • They're not worried about the t-shirt itself.

'They' just want to show you who's in charge.

  • This is why I don't fly unless I HAVE to. I have a 4" spring assist folder that went through carry on in this post 9/11 world but a picture of a fake gun being held by a cartoon character is deemed a threat. These people are morons. rodajones is correct. The terrorists have won.

  • Ok, for a most part I understand and except airport security, but this is a bit ridiculous. I could see it maybe scaring some passengers that are idiots and think every plane they will ever step on will be hijacked, but until one of those come along and file an official compliant, come on.

  • proves that Americans aren't the only ones who are paranoid as hell.

  • This is rediculus, if the air companies are so worried about being bankrupt you think they would trying to get people to fly not to set them away for stuipid resaons.

The goverment sould never have bailed out airlines, ever though this is British airways they do the same thing in the US.
    Not_Doody
  • I am rocking my Boba Fett t-shirt next time I go through air port security.

  • Voltron is the shit, young!
  • This is truly a new low for the airline industry.

  • Do these people read books or see movies about this type of oppression?

Laws are like two hands with clay. The hands hold the clay and protect it. But then the hands start to close and start to surround the clay. The clay is still fine it's just not in as much open space as it was before. But then the hands start to push on the clay and squeeze it and does the clay stay put? Does it allow the hands to confine it? No. The clay pushes out through the spaces in the fingers and cause a mess.

These people in power are causing a mess and I sure the hell don't want to clean it up.

  • a cartoon shirt, really a cartoon shirt, I would have as much fun with my 15min of fame as i could.

Like the guy who got arrested in Tennessee for assaulting a bear with a stick.

I would plead guilty and go on David Letterman and tell the grandkids all about it some day.

  • Obviously this is the result of right wing ideology. One is not a terrorist because they wear a shirt with a cartoon character holding a gun. I don't even see how this gives more power to the government or even has any benefit to any single person at all. This seems to go to show the fascist like government we live in today.
    sammunster
  • Just do what the kids in high school do when given grief over their t-shirts and turn it inside out. Of course the fact that his is a commercial, public airline and the guy paid for a ticket makes this all so ridiculous!
    patsarts
  • "Obviously this is the result of right wing ideology"

Sounds more like left wing ideology to me. You have your directions turned around.

  • I'm glad the first Amendment doesn't have wings.
