Israel announces further expansions into occupied territories

Image...
The Israeli Government has released plans detailing the construction of 900 more housing units in a part of East Jerusalem, an area considered to be occupied territory. Hardly the most positive of decisions following allegations that the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is corrupt.

In a strange and telling political twist, the Prime Minister will be meeting the Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the peace process. No doubt Mr Abbas will have read the news of Israeli plans to expand further into the occupied territories ahead of their scheduled peace talks on Monday. Israel has already insisted that if a final peace deal is met, then the latest planned settlements will be inside of another re-drawn border between Israel and Palestine.

Is the peace process really working or do you think it is a distraction from the reality of what is happening?

are you going to blame Israel for the problems of the middle east??

Israel captured those territories during wars that was started by the Arabs. they beat the Arabs and took the lands. If you call that an occupation, then you can also say that the US is occupying California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Utah, and they should all be given back to Mexico.

Now if you bring that up to anyone , they would remind you that California controls 16% of the US economy, if it were an independent state, it would be the 8th largest economy in the world.

My point is that Israel is there to stay and Jerusalem and all the other lands belongs to them. Israel is the only nation in the mid east that gives equal rights to each of its citizens. Women also have basic rights there(Israel had her first Prime minister in 1970, even before the USA). The chicks dont have to wear burkas. Gays flock to Israel to avoid being killed in other parts of the mid-east. Arabs get housing loans, equal education and voting rights. Arabs even enlist in the IDF even tho it is not compulsory for them(cos only Israeli Jews must serve, others enlist). Signs in Israel are written in Hebrew, English and Arabic to make it possible for everyone to live happily. Israel is the only democracy in the middle east

The problem with your reasoning is that Israel only existed because the Western nations gave it to them after WWII... Not to sound like Ahmedinejad but why did the Palestinians have to pay for the mistakes of the Europeans? If the Jews were to be given a homeland why wasn't it given from the land of the people who persecuted them?

In reality I think that this backwards questioning is pointless. Israel will always exist now that it is there. The only solution is, in my opinion, to have a single unified state where everyone is treated as a citizen. Where roads interconnect and anyone can use them. This is not the case as of now, and I am not sure a two state solution would work if it were plausible... The issue is complex to say the least...

let the Israelis and Arabian nations "take care of themselves", even if that means nukes.

we will go in then, and spread atheism, cause most of the jewish/islamic people will be dead. i know, crazy. this will enable people to cooperate on businesses, peace, economy, instead of stupid religious differences.

It's a distraction and an ulterior motive of Israel - to grab land that is.

Where will it stop? When Israel gets away with ignoring the United Nations, human rights violations and framing, then attacking and murdering Palestinians as justification for keeping their land for "security purposes".

The world is growing tired of the lies.

hey, how about the Hundreds of rockets that are fired into sedrot(southern Israel) by hamas?? the rockets fired into nothern Israel by Hizbollah how about the treatment of women in Saudi Arabia and iran?? How about hindering Religious liberty in Egypt and Omar?? how about murdering politicians in Pakistan?? How about the genocide in Darfur?? how about sharia law thriving in Northern Africa?? All the nations i have mentioned are all Muslim nations.

Talk about Human rights?? How about the beheading of US citizens in nothern mexico?? Drug lords in colombia?? the treatment of prisioners in the middle east and parts of Africa?? Arresting politicians in Russia?? undemocratic elections in Zimbabwe? lack of elections in Cuba??...etc

Talk about Occupation..if you say Israel is occupying Arab land, then the US is occupying California, N.Mexico, Utah, AZ and TX. how about China occupying Tibet?? what about IRAN occupying the Ahwazi province??

I personally think that those who try to scape goat Israel have a speck of hatred for the Jewish people. The things they accuse Israel of doing are being done by other nations, but every one seems to look away from other people.

I'd like to see this Israel/Palestine conflict fought fairly by arming the Arabs. I'd like to read in the headlines that Israel has finally met its match and there will be world peace.
Of coarse this would require America stepping out of the middle-east, and ultimately minding their own business.
    Boycott Israel, world peace!

"are you going to blame Israel for the problems of the middle east?? "
No, but i would blame them for the conditions in Palestine and Israel.

"I personally think that those who try to scape goat Israel have a speck of hatred for the Jewish people."
It would have nothing to do with the questionable policies and illegal actions which continue since Israels formation? Could not the argument be made of hatred toward the Palestinian people? Evil happens when good people turn away...

Not surprised Israel is stealing land again, against International law as well as Biblical law. The Israeli government cares only for its own gains without consideration for the many innocent children and people of Palestine. This government kicked out these poor people out of their homes and land without any where to go and stole it without any guilt of what they did. This government is one of the most corrupt and murderous governments the world has ever experienced. If it weren't for the oil in that part of the world, Israel would be left alone to defend themselves.
Yes, imho, it is the government of Israel that is the root cause of the problems in the Mideast.

Israel: Give Back The Palestinians Homes/Land, Open up roads for medical supplies and food and trade, and then, ONLY then will the problems in the Mideast come to a near standstill. Give back what is NOT yours!!! Your own people, 76%, are fed up with you, the world is fed up with you. Let Those People GO!

I'm not sure people here realize how much land Israel has given back over the years. Yes they did occupy a shitload of land in the 60s and 70s but then they gave a massive majority of it back to their rightful owners. They constantly give more land back and then try to make peace, but when they take the slightest bit of land back the media (mostly the BBC) are all over it. The rest of the process is almost entirely ignored.

Israel wants land. AIPAC meets with our political leaders with no protest. Why so much fuss over the World Bank meeting and absolutely no protests over AIPAC dictating our foreign policy?

An occupation is still an occupation. And it's illegal according to the UN.
Israel is in violation of UN Resolutions.
It is illegal for the US to occupy Iraq and it is illegal for Israel to occupy Palestine.

"The Jews are called human beings, but the non-Jews are not humans. They are beasts." Talmud: Baba mezia, 114b

    RESPONSE (1)
This represents a lack of knowledge of Hebrew at a most fundamental level. Here, the anti-Semites claim that Adam means human but it really means man. "Yetsoor" is the Hebrew word for human. Jews are referred to by the singular form of man, Adam, whilst non-Jews are referred to by the plural form of man, or anasheem. Both forms of the word mean human, but one is single, the other is plural. The reason that Jews are referred to in the singular is that if one Jew does something bad, or is alleged to have, all Jews are blamed for it. So, for the wrongdoing or alleged wrongdoing of one, all suffer. In the case of non-Jews, only individuals suffer, not all of the non-Jews. So that is why Jews are referred to as a single person and non-Jews are referred to in the plural.

Israel can never "make peace" as long as they are making more and more housing for Israeli Jews. The Jews are literally taking the Palestinians land, it's as if someone was stepping on your foot and stabbing you in the gut whilst trying to talk you into a peace treaty.

I would avoid using religious quotes like this because it is often the very root of the problem... Quotes from the Quran have been taken out of context and spread through the mass media in order to create a violent, oppressive image of Islam. If you disagree look at the recent Gallup Polls. All religions have things that can be misinterpreted and for that reason I would suggest not bringing these things up in logical debates. They only provide for generalization and shallow understanding of one another...

Yes, Israel has given back land, but you have to remember that this is a play by Olmert to get support from the ultra-orthodox groups that are chanting for his resignation.

Israel uses these lands grabs when it benefits them... Jerusalem was a grab and you'll be hearing more and more news about settlements in Jerusalem...

It's a mess, and it will continue to be a mess until the U.S. determines it's not in its best interests to be so closely aligned with Israel and Saudi Arabia...

Just another race to succeed in the ethnic cleanse. My heart goes out to all of the Palestinians in the struggle for justice.

I know that some people here have said not to quote any scripture, but I think this should be considered. Just as we have people in our country who claim to live by Christian principles and yet practice war and greed.

The people behind these atrocities against the Palestinians are fake Jews referred to in the Apocalypse of John; Jesus called them the Nicolaitans "Those who say they are Jews but are not".

The revelation calls them the Synagogue of Satan, because they represent the hierarchy of a ruling class over the rest of the people, developing a pecking order of fleshly leadership.

In John 8:44 Jesus told the Pharisees that their father was Satan.

I was just trying to clarify 'who hates who' here. And i dont think this is a dispute between members of current.com, its an article on the continuing invasion and genocide of the Palestinian people.

Bendan and wannabedoc, I do not support the killing of anybody, my point is that these people use their religion to justify killing other people as much as Christians do. Anybody who does such things are fakes, they are not following their own religion.

As far as I know both the Jews and the Christians follow the ten commandments and it say "do not kill".

It says many other things like "do not covet", "do not steal". Yet all of these Abrahamic Religions do just that; Covet, Kill, and Steal. Hence that is why I said that they practice war and greed.

Israel has made a pact with Ecuador to relocate all the Israelis to their country should they be attacked. Ecuador signed a treaty with Israel to give them all the territory that they recover from Peru; should Ecuador be attacked by Peru again. Israel has vowed to defend Ecuador in exchange for vast amounts of land in the Amazon Rainforest. Ecuador agreed to help Israel if they are attacked.

There is a huge statue of a woman with 12 stars on her head, clothed in the sun and standing on the moon that has been built over Quito. When you climb up into the statue and look out of the woman's eyes you look directly at the "Middle of the world" a monument that was built to mark the equatorial line.

This statue of the woman is taken directly from the Apocalypse of John. My Uncle in Ecuador designed it and built it. It is very well known that this woman symbolizes Israel; and not a virgin giving birth as many Catholics claim.

The twelve stars represent the twelve tribes of Israel, and being clothed in the sun is representative of their being engulfed in the radiance of God, while the part about standing on the moon is reflective of their Lunar Calendar, while the Eagle wings are representative of the OODLES of money that the United States and Great Britain give to Israel so she can literally "take flight".

jubal, regarding the pact between Israel and Ecuador - I think it’s NOT a wise (if not stupid!) idea because it relies on the same old strategy that had put Israel in trouble in the first place. using the war as an excuse to occupy other people’s land may have worked before, but almost certainly not in this century!

just imagine that it actually happens - Ecuador invites Israel to fight against Peru and Israel occupies Peruvian territory. that will be like importing Middle East crisis to Latin America. what a nightmare scenario! i am amazed that Israel repeatedly fails to learn the history lessons and I wouldn’t be surprised if this pact idea with Ecuador was initiated by Israel in the first place.
