The following excerpt is from a story I read yesterday...

"Remember how we've always been told that free markets and free people go hand in hand? That was a lie. It turns out that the most efficient delivery system for capitalism is actually a communist-style police state, fortressed with American "homeland security" technologies, pumped up with "war on terror" rhetoric. And the global corporations currently earning superprofits from this social experiment are unlikely to be content if the lucrative new market remains confined to cities such as Shenzhen. Like everything else assembled in China with American parts, Police State 2.0 is ready for export to a neighborhood near you."

    I think that the people in power have perfect opportunity to get away with so much. They distract everyone with this long political process (that should have been over) and the stars. People pay attention to this political blunder while the government swiftly puts into motion many things that will start to affect all of us and when they do it'll be far too late for any of us to do anything.

    i wouldn't go to london. it's a great place to visit; i've been there several times, but not again. when london and beijing come to the same conclusions on "safety" i'm outta there....

  • Hey don't hate :) rolling stone occasionally does cover some great issues (their article on Marijuana use and reasons for and the implications of legalization was quite good).

    but anyway i read this as soon as it came in the mail and it is quite appalling, everyone in America who values their rights should read this.

    1. Create a gulag (guantanamo, abu gharib) and the ability to arrest people without giving them the right to know why (PATRIOT Act).

    2. Torture (Military Commissions Act).

    3. Create lists of 'suspicious persons' (TAA's No Fly Lists).

  • They've had police camera's in Chicago for at least the past 6 years. Monitoring the "bad black and brown folk".

    I've had alot of friends come to Chicago and ask me "what the hell are those". My usual response is..."have you ever read 1984?".

    The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385) passed on June 16, 1878 after the end of Reconstruction. The Act prohibits most members of the federal uniformed services (the Army, Air Force, and State National Guard forces when such are called into federal service) from exercising nominally state law enforcement police or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order" on non-federal property (states, their counties and municipal divisions) in the former Confederate states.

    The statute generally prohibits federal military personnel and units of the United States National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. The Coast Guard is exempt from the Posse Comitatus Act.

    The Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act substantially limit the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement.

    america is a socialist democracy by definition. socialism doesnt entail a police state, capitalism does as capitalism is the unjust system where a few get rich off the backs of many poor.

    I saw the news footage of that little old woman in New Orleans being repeatedly punched in the face because she had an unloaded gun and was trying to give it to the police when they raided her house under (Marshal Law).

    All I could think of was if that would have been my grandma.
