Across the street from the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, India lies one of Gujarat’s largest slums. Most who hear of it expect to find despair, hardship and disease lurking in every corner. While it’s difficult to deny those facts, we came across American-born Ankur Shah, a Stanford graduate, who saw a rare form of beauty that transcended the superficial poverty.
This pod details Ankur’s attempt to teach 8 elderly slum women – most of whom have outlived their husbands and children – how to cook nutritious meals. But in the end, Ankur becomes the student, and they the teachers.

Interesting POD....

Capturing the time and energy of the elderly in serving the community is a great idea. Senior citizens usually have wisdom, patience and time to serve in a way that younger people don't. I've heard of another successful effort where grandmothers distributed medicine to kids as a public health initiative.

From the oldest to the youngest, we are all the children of those from a higher plane of existence...the youngest are anxious to learn from the wisdom of others...and Ankur realized, even though he had more education, he could still learn from the elders...showing us that true wisdom doesn't just come from books...
This is a beautiful story...too see the hope in in their weathered smiles, knowing that someone cares...warms the heart...
Thanks, asha...-

I find it very interesting that the least fortunate among as are sometimes the ones who seem to have got it in terms of wisdom, happiness and humility. I like the part where the lady says we are all one. a truth that majority of the world has since forgot.
ashal, thank you for this . One more reason why we are a great people even though most of the time it doesn't seem so. -
Very enlighening, very educational, and a very very good piece, glad that I watched this, I've learned and envaluable lesson.

Nice pod. It flows very well and seems put together artfully. Great shots.

It's great that you were able to represent this community, that are never represented, in your pod. I really loved hearing from the women! I think you piece would be more powerfuly if you start with locations shots or an interview with one of the women and take out Ankur reading a letter. It looks like you have enough footage to go lighter on the narration.
