How the mighty have fallen

Possibly the saddest and most profound casualty of Hillary's political battle is the loss of the legend that was Fmr. President Bill Clinton. With is legacy intact Pres. Clinton could have enjoyed soaring popularity for the rest of his days. The harsh scrutiny of the campaign has removed some of the polish from the legend. In time hopefully the luster will return to the once shining star but for now he has brought new meaning to taking one for the team.

  • It's how he fought that hurt his image. Not necessarily beyond repair but definitely put a chink in his shining armor.

  • I agree with both keithponder and eldamon. Nice points.

In addition, I think it is the legacy of this defunct two party political system that we should be worrying about.

  • We need a new system.Too much power in the two party one that puts their parties before country.

  • Disgusting what the party has done to one of it's greatest Presidents. I have always been a Democrat, this campaign is certainly making me think twice about that.

  • yes I have to agree on that. Bill Clinton was a good president in comparison to many, especially the criminal we have now. Even this picture which suggests he is shooting himself in the head is in bad taste. But that seems to be the MO of many who claim "unity."

  • He's not a legend to me. The only thing the Clintons are good at in a good way is being parents. Their daughter is a bright, respectful and caring woman, which is odd considering how neither of her parents are that well at being respectful or caring; as this race has clearly shown.

It's not a matter of Bill being shown to be bad as this is what he truly was even during his 8 years as President. He was just bright enough to hold it back, hide it and cover over it with his sweet talking ways.

  • "...put a chink in his shining armor".

Yes im sure thats what happened with nixon and watergate.
  • I see your true color, shinin' thru

  • I'd have to say Bill is a legend and did a lot of things no one else could have done. For some of the stuff he was just in the right place at the right time but all things considered he's a legend despite the women in his life, with the exception of Chelsea, of course.

On another note, Nixon had far more than armor problems. He was a straight criminal and only surpassed by the current occupants. There is no comparison there. Nixon was probably the worst president we've had - until W came along.

  • He's a decent guy, did some good stuff, however he also supported NAFTA. And he called that Vanity Fair Reporter a "Scumbag" and slimy. Makes me think less of him a bit.

  • Technically and factually George Bush is not the worst President.

One only would think that to for a mob and because he's the President of now. There are, based on historians, worse Presidents.

  • I couldnt help but notice that last night all the news shows were saying that "he was on a rant" and made it sound like he was out of control and sounded like he was going off or something. Then this morning I heard the audio and he was just as calm as can be and in a matter of fact way said what he felt. What is being said couldnt be further from the truth. And I think that anybody that was written about without any sources or fact or anything to support what they were saying wrote such nasty unsupported things, would react the same way but only they would not be so calm and would not have called him "slimy" but would have had to be bleeped. Sound like everybody agrees that he was a great president, until he had the nerve to say something negative about Obama, then he is showing his "true colors". Then he "put a chink in his armour".
Second, isnt it funny that everyone seems to have forgotten the mess that he came into when he took office? How far this man took us? How good things were then or how there were so many jobs you had your pick. Kids that never wouldve had the opportunity got to go to college. How our houses value was going up and the deficet became a surplus. Remember when the dabate was about what we should do with all that extra money? This man and his cabinet did more for this country in the 8 years he was in than any other president I have ever even read about yet you people think that he has somehow erased all of that because he was bold enough to say what was on his mind? What is happening to everyone? Have we become so blinded by blind loyalty to someone we dont even know that we turn our backs on the one man that we DO know did more for all of us than 4 presidents all put together? That's just crazy. I will be so glad when this election is over so people can come out of the fog they have been in and get back to reality. Some people should be ashamed of themselves for being so unappreciative to someone that did so much for them that they are willing to sacrifice their reputation and their lifelong work just to make them look bad to make someone else look better!

There are far greater ways Hillary could have effectively leveraged Bill's two successful terms and popularity that quite possibly could have landed her the nomination. She forewent them all to thrown in the kitchen sink and scorch the earth.
