History is made as Obama crossed the critical delegate mark and claimed his title as the first African American nominee for President of the United States. Rival candidate Hillary Clinton has yet to officially concede, saying she'll make no decisions tonight.
All this as polls were still closing in South Dakota and Montana, and in Louisiana John McCain began challenging his new rival candidate, questioning whether or not Obama's candidacy is really "change we can believe in."
(For the record, Obama scored a victory in Montana while Hillary won South Dakota).
Meanwhile I pose this question to you all: How has this campaign made you feel, now that it is finally wrapping up?

I agree with Swiyyah and Scott!

While I too am tired of the drama, it's likely that a primary race this closely contested won't happen again for quite some time. It's been a fun one to watch.

Careful you don't speak too soon. Clinton has said that if Obama reaches that magic number of delegates tonight, she'll acknowledge his accomplishment, but will not be dropping out, at least not yet.

Hillary Clinton lost a long time ago. The past couple of months were a grand play that left the audience with the feeling that they somehow participated in the outcome.
-
Her campaign is $20 MM in the hole (by conservative estimates) and the party leadership wants this over by tomorrow, if not tonight. If she decides not to suspend her campaign, or concede outright, you will hear a loud, conspicuous and collective "groan" from the party. No one wants to force her out, but the time has come, as every Democrat in the US has been given the chance to cast a vote. 2118 = victory. Obama's the man.
-
fountaingoats, She has the popular vote and the electoral count with the swing states I know you most likely do not know what that means but it means to a man that has been in this as ling as since President John F Kennedy was alive she is saying. She is winning. That is really true. Back when Obama had the popular vote it was stated by Howard Dean the now DNC Chairman that the one who had the popular vote should get the nomination. Back in 200 when former Vice President to Bill Clinton ran after Bill Clinton's terms for President Al Gore won the popular vote but the republicans tampered with the votes in Florida and caused a recount which in turn for some reason BUSH came up with more votes out of no where!
It was really Voter Fraud but it not be proven so Bush became President after a supreme court ruling of the vote count. STILL AL GORE had the popular vote and should have won the election in 2000.
This is what is happing now almost! Hillary has the popular vote count. And has won the swing states needed to win the General Election. She is beating Obama of course you can not believe every thing you hear on MSNBC or CNN they are in the tank for Obama, and have been fined from the FCC for their inflammatory remarks.
Michigan has 127 Delegates that she has won along with the 1951 plus the 43 from Pueto Rico along with the 4 that they gave Obama from Florida that were Hillary's and the 5 delegates that came over to her on the 6-2-08 including the 44 from Kentucky she is even beating him in delegate count.
But the popular vote is what really matters along with the swing states. You can get as many delegates as can fill a football field in really does not matter, the fact is if you do not have the electoral count-the swing states then you will not win the GENERAL ELECTION and Obama supporters committed Fraud at the Caucasus which he knows about and had to be planned out which caused him to get so many delegates. A candidate can win in the primary's to win the nomination but he can not use the same fraud to win in the General Election.-

dgahr, Do not speak as if you have any thing to do with the campaign because you do not and you do not know what this party whats. I myself as a Delegate elect want Senator Hillary Clinton to go to the Credentials Committee and push to have Michigan seated that is 127 Delegates. Senator Clinton has the experience to do what is needed to correct the problems that Bush's Administration has placed this country in. You as someone with know idea as to the work this woman has done to make this country a better place has know idea (along with former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore) what work they did to correct the deficit, fix the economy, make it to to you how have a company called AMD which got it start after that adminstration fixed the economy and now you get the enjoyment of that on the computer you put out messages of crape you do not know anything about because you where in school enjoying the fact that they were doing all this and you did not have to worry about it.
So start appreicating what you have in life and realise there really is not a TOOTH FAIRY they are called the Clinton's and they are the ones who made your life better for you now.

SWING STATE DEMOCRATS SAY HILLARY BEST FOR TOP OF TICKET
Over a dozen members of Congress wrote to other Democrats touting their support for Hillary, saying she is the strongest candidate to have at the top of the ticket in the fall.
The text of the letter is below.
Dear Fellow Democrat,
We are writing to you because of our shared belief in our Party’s principles and our commitment to ensuring that we have the strongest possible nominee to lead our ticket against John McCain and the Republicans in November.
The decision about who to support to be our Party’s nominee is not one that any of us should take lightly. We haven’t. But, after giving this important decision a great deal of thought, we are convinced that Hillary Clinton has the vision, skills and commitment to make the changes our country needs. As Democrats who have run and won in competitive Congressional districts and battleground states, we believe that Hillary is best positioned to successfully lead the Democratic ticket in districts and states like ours around the country.
As you know, Hillary has racked up victories in bellwether states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and now Indiana that are absolutely vital to winning the White House and maintaining our Congressional majority in the fall. Hillary has won the big battleground states by connecting with voters whose support we must have to win the general election. Her victories in Pennsylvania and Indiana were all the more impressive after being outspent by as much as two or three to one.
Pennsylvania was not just a victory for Hillary Clinton. It was also a wake- up call for superdelegates, forcing us to ask ourselves two essential questions: 1) Which candidate can carry the magic 270 electoral votes to win in the fall? 2) Which candidate is most likely to help our fellow Democrats in down-ballot races? We believe the answer to both of these questions is Hillary Clinton.
On the first question, Hillary has shown she can win the all-important battleground states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida even while being outspent. This speaks to her ability to connect with voters we must deliver in the fall, including blue collar Democrats who can sway this election as they have in the past.-

On the second question, Hillary has won rural and suburban districts which we as Democrats must carry to maintain our edge in Congress. Of the fifteen districts rated “toss up” by the Cook Political Report, Hillary has now won ten. Of the 20 districts we picked up in 2006 that had gone for President Bush just two years before, Hillary has now won 16. She is strong in the places we must win to hold and expand our majority.
This is a historically close race. The candidates are separated by a mere percentage point or two and the path to victory for each candidate is the same: win in the upcoming states and secure enough pledged and automatic delegates to get to the number required to win the nomination.
We Democrats are justifiably proud of both of our candidates, and if Senator Obama is our Party’s nominee, we will enthusiastically support him. But our responsibility is not to choose simply to support the eventual nominee; it is to help select the nominee who is best for our party and best for our country. Our choice is clear: Hillary Clinton is that candidate. We believe she should be your choice as well.
Thank you for consideration.
Sincerely,

Nothing has been secured and no one has conceded! Sure LOOKS like a victory for Obama, but given Hillary's track record I feel like she'll continue to flex her political muscles and this nomination drama will continue through August...

More sore losing from JohnA and Maltesetitan. Obama clenched the nomination about an hour before Clinton's speech. Regardless of what Hillary told her supporters, this race is over. Even FOX is calling the race for Obama. Reportedly Obama is projected to win Montana, and has accumulated approximately 2132 delegates. It's time to stop arguing against the facts and realize that this nomination process is over.
-
missingwhatsnear, If he were to ever get the nomination he would not win the General Election you can commit Fraud in a Caucsas in the general election because there is not one. You have to have experience to win and he has none. And you have to have won the swing states of which you are are young do not understand I've been around this many times before I'm a Colonel which also means for this campaign I've been chosen as a Delegate.
This is not a meer game it is needed for any candidate to have the electoral college votes to win the in November. Obama has not been able to prove himself to have that ability. And does not have the experience it takes to create it. Former First Lady Hillary Clinton now Senator Clinton has proven herself over 20 years to have the experience. Along with working for Former President Jimmy Carter's Administration as a Peace Keeper. And working on the Em Peachment hearings of former President Nixion this before she married Bill Clinton and before he became Governor and before he ran for President and before she became First Lady.
Obama has a lot of experience he needs to do before he gets to that point. If he is nominated there is no way on this planet he will become President I stake my Life on it.
And MY VOTE!-

'We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal'
How far we've come. This is a defining moment for America and the world.
I've been inspired and moved by this man more so than any other leader in my lifetime.
This fills me with grace, love, and hope for a better future.
Oh happy day -
I would just like to point out to the editor; he is not the first African American nominee for President of the United States. He is the first to be the candidate for the Democratic Party. People seriously need to get this right.
sheesh.
Otherwise, whoohoo! I'm proud to be a native Marylander who voted for Obama.-

He was all class in his speech in Minnesota.
I can't wait for the debates!
Obama 2008!!! -
goolkasian,
Senator Hillary Clinton has won the Popular Vote! FACT!
You made a statement in reference to CAUCUSES that Hillary supporters would want to discount them. Do you mean the CAUCUSES that Obama supporters commit Fraud at! THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU ANSWER THIS! I'm a Colonel and a Delegate.
The ones were He had his supporters fill out the Delegate sheets that they were suppose to be filling out saying they were for Hillary and wanted to be Hillary Delegates. But when the caucus took place and those people that filled out the papers were elected they had a change of mind and decided they wanted to change there vote to Obama.
THAT IS CALLED DECEIT AND VOTER FRAUD! And those who have done this will be rejected from the DNC Delegate List either before they get to the Convention or after they have arrived.
So if you happen to known of any of this people or are one yourself. For your own good I suggest you tell them of the impending out come of what they have done.
As a Colonel and a Delegate to the DNC Convention I will be one who will make sure those who have switched by doing this type of Fraud will not be admitted to the Delegation.
Now back to this!
Those of you that think this is over it is not!
Senator Clinton is winning the popular vote and by all accounts this means to the Super Delegates that they must listen to the voice of the people not he Delegate count as far a state to state they know that can be miss managed by caucuses and the popular vote can not. Also a Delegate has to look at who is the strongest candidate in the Fall to beat John McCain.
A Delegate has to think about the party and the experience that candidate has.-

malt, guess what?
We don't choose our nominee (or our President) based on the popular vote and no amount of whining is going to change it.
Please come to grips with that fact and refuse the urge to spite yourself and your candidate's party by voting Republican.
Go Obama!!!
