It Takes 2,000 Gallons of Fresh Water to Produce One Gallon of Milk

(NaturalNews) There are many reasons why informed consumers are avoid consuming cow's milk today, such as the fact that milk increases stagnation and can promote sinusitis and asthma. There are humanitarian and ethical reasons, too; avoiding milk means not condoning the abuse of dairy cows on conventional dairy farms. But one of the most important reasons to consider avoiding the consumption of milk is the waste of water resources that go into its production.

  • It takes the same amount of water to produce one pound of meat.

  • I didn't want to go back to pouring gin on my Frosted Flakes, but now it appears that it is the environmentally-friendly thing to do. It's a good thing I take public transportation to work in the morning ...

  • Milk is sad. I'm trying to switch to Silk soymilk or another kind of soymilk instead. There's also almond milk, rice milk if you don't like (or want) soy. So much better for you than cow's milk. Unless you want all that extra estrogen, bovine growth hormone, and pesticides and antibiotics with your Frosted Flakes.

  • "... it can take UP TO 2,000 gallons...." was the quote. Still, the point is legit.

  • I think we should simply ban cows. It's they that are apparently using all the world's water.

Just one question: Doesn't that water go back into the system?

  • it takes loads of water to wash cars, make paint, flush toilets, shower, and make other food. must i go on?

so 2000 is a lot, but it ain't shit. give me a break. this planet is what, about 70% water?

    good night.
  • Hi,
I must be ignorant, and I'm sure there will be replies to this note, so I guess I'm asking for your constructive help here for me to understand this issue.

It seems to me, that of all the natural resources on this planet to be concerned about conserving, water ought to rank towards the bottom. I mean, we have more water than land on this planet, so why the "water shortage" hype? I know hotels go out of there way to claim to be concerned about the environment and ask you to limit your towel usage but they are concerned about their bottom line, not the environment. They are looking to cut costs.

I just got back from Melbourne, Australia and they too seem very much concerned about water conservation - to the point that they put signs on urinals - thanking you for using "waterless urinals" and saving 4 gallons of water.

I just don't get it. Is there a water shortage, and if so why? Or, are we just choosing everything possible to conserve, and water is just another element? Please advise.

  • To the tune , let there be peace on the earth and let it begin with me.
Spill your milk on the earth and let it begin with me.
Or motley crue pour some sugar on me.
    Pump your lactose on me.
Of much more concern to me is the hormone pesticides and chemicals in milk, even the ones labeled as not containing it.
monsanto the company that brought you ddt, pcb.and the evironmental darling round up resistent vegetables, created spt or some other alphabet soup chemical which makes cows produce more milk is linked to various illnesses. better living thru chemicals.
Amber hope I did not offend you, I am just a little goofy, I think you are too in lactational kind of way
