Obama's victory spreads excitement on a global scale!

From hundreds of supporters crowded around televisions in rural Kenya, Obama's ancestral homeland, to jubilant Britons writing "WE DID IT!" on the Brits for Barack discussion board on Facebook, people celebrated what they called an important racial and generational milestone for the United States.

"This is close to a miracle. I was certain that some things will not happen in my lifetime," said Sunila Patel, 62, a widow encountered on the streets of New Delhi. "A black president of the U.S. will mean that there will be more American tolerance for people around the world who are different."

  • Yayyy Obama!!!!

  • Normally, Americans are inherently mistrustful of "furners" (a.k.a. foreigners), but I think at this point my fellow Americans are realizing that the United States doesn't exist in a vacuum and people overseas turned out to be right about Bush, after all.... And we have a hell of a lot of reparation to do with our reputation.

  • They should be excited. This country has come a long way from the days of slavery. Obama's victory should be a lesson to everyone around the world. He showed us that with a can-do attitude and a bit of perseverance, you can achieve great things.

  • As a Brit, I've never normally taken an active role in US politics, but this year I've really enjoyed watching the race, listening to the vast amount of speeches from each candidate, it certainly beats listening to Gordon Brown go on...

  • He will be if, WE THE PEOPLE, give him a majority in both the house and senate.

This is why every SEN. race counts and also why the V.P. needs to be someone other than a Senator.

From Caroline Kennedy. "I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans."

That is the kind of V.P. talk I want to hear.

    How about.

    Obama/Kennedy 2008

That might sound good to the rest of the world.

    Is she running?
I really can't wait...I have my doubts due to mistrusting anyone in gov't but I have to admit I am putting my hopes on this man.

  • That last quote of that woman stating "more tolerance" because of the skin color of a United States President is the most racist thing I've read that was meant to be open minded.

Obama doesn't even play the race card. I find it funny everyone who supports him (seemingly) feels the need to do so for him.

  • Who the hell cares what other countries think. Whenever anything happens, they come crying to us to fix it for them anyway, no matter who the President is. We do too much now, we've got our own problems. They love Obama so much, they can have him as far as I'm concerned.

  • This is a very exciting time. But our work has just begun. Please all of us have to do a couple things to ensure that we bring Obama's candidacy to a sucessful conclusion. First, get out a vote. Please do not sit this one out thinking that it's in the bag because it isn't. Second, tell your friends and family to get out and vote. We know that the republicans will gladly crawl over broken glass to vote against Barack and will use any dirty in order to win. So please let's all get involved.

  • Look at your local representatives and help replace those that need replaced. This is key to repairing the damage. Give your bit and volunteer. We can fix the mess if WE get involved and work too. He can't do it alone. Most important make sure your voter registration is good and vote on paper.

  • Leonidis, Let's not be silly. He is just the best we have. He is going to be a great president for all of us. But he isn't Christ or the Messiah. Drop the stupid stuff.
  • If he wasnt so liberal Id vote for him.

  • wow there seems to be a lot of bitterness on the comment board.

The biggest thing we all can agree on is that this world needs change but there is no reason for forcing this upon one another!

can we all just get along?

Each day, the US is becoming more diverse in cultures. Each new generation has more mixing of bloods from countless parts of the world.
It seems to me that Obama would appeal to someone who feels like they're standing in two or more countries at the same time due to heritage.
In this way, he is reflective of the changing face of the US and how we are being perceived by the rest of the world.
The racists may still refer to him as that, "you-know-what", but, they are shrinking in numbers with each passing day. Soon, they will have little say in any important decisions regarding the future.
    Obama's continuing success proves this.
Good riddance to GWB's "Good Ol' Boy" politics.

  • "Who cares?" I and pretty much the rest of the world care. We're not our own little island in the sun here. We're a major part of the worlds community, the guiding force in the known universe as far as it stand at the moment. Ridiculous, xenophobic, protectionist thinking as put are reputation in shambles throughout the world and this is the first sign of repair to come along in nearly a decade.

Say what you want about the man, you can't take away the fact his mere presence on the scene brings hope and joy to the masses worldwide.

  • Maybe other countries now won't think that we are stupid and stuck centuries behind in our thinking. I believe Obama admin will bring change. His forgeing policy isn't the best right now but I believe other countries won't feel like we are trying to be the great white pimp and listen to what he has to say. WE DONT HAVE TERRORIST ENEMIES., because we have democracy we have them because we don't help those who we can help instead we blow them up. OBAMA 08 there will be change one way or another.

  • It's incredible how much interest there's been in this year's presidential election amongst young people in Britain.

I've been more interested in the US political events than in the predictable and tired sparring between Labour and the Conservatives - UK politics needs shaking up.

  • Global connection to the name and because his black. Being black is good business for entertainment but still has to follow the rules set earlier in history.

Blacks don't have any rights in other countries and for the U.S. to have a black president after BUSH, it's unbelievable. To help develop good country relationships after the war.

  • What's more is Obama treats voters with respect and partnership. I'd like to have a man in the Executive Branch who has strong principles like Obama! The majority of the political skanks (Hillary) treat voters and principles as optional when convenient.

  • Do you think that maybe the name and middle eastern relationships are trying to be connected?
    dontipo
  • Do you think a global control is being organized after Bush selling arms, private contracts, and the Obama being black? Can the name connect with Muslims because time is changing fast.

Businesses are being done and we, the people, don't think ahead.

I think it's great that the rest of the world is involved in our election. I think over the past eight years everyone has seen the global impact of carelessness in the White House.

  • Obama is the first politician I've seen who seems uncorrupt...with a grassroots support base, he's proved that corruption can be ended.
  • Cool, but even so I'm going to have a few words with him about gun control (which is every bit as unconstitutional as the patriot act).

  • I wasn't an Obama supporter since the beginning. But, I am glad that he made it this far. I just hope that he proves everyone wrong and that he does make a positive change for us, The United States, throughout his term. I would hate to see this historic event backfire in the near future if in fact he is elected president.

One day... we will have a Latino for president, asian-american, indian-american, etc. Also, a woman for president as well. I hope I live to see that.. but this is a start.

  • Honestly I'm so glad that I'm alive during this election cycle where someone like Barack Obama has the possibility to change the face of politics in the US and the world. It's time for change, and I feel like both the US public and the world is ready for someone like Barack Obama.
