It is beginning to take hold. Honesty. On Good Morning America Thursday, ABC News' Chief Washington Correspondent George Stephanopoulos reported "the Democratic National Committee will no longer accept contributions from federal lobbyists, will no longer take contributions from PACs" in keeping with Obama's well-publicized policy.

  • I'm so happy. It's looking good for public financing of campaigns. Average Joe can win!
  • Took 'em long enough now we can hold our noses up at republicans, act snooty towards them and not feel guilty.

  • That is usually how lobbyist money starts out. It becomes addictive and we lose out.
  • This is ground breaking behavior. Shocking.

  • Imagine if this snowballs into giving the people back the power. Maybe a even haberdasher could become president? I believe he means to become the president he promised to be. He asked for help from us, are we up to it? Yes, we are.
  • Good next step outlaw lobbying!

  • I don't think it could be outlawed completely, maybe make paid lobbyist illegal?
  • I can't help but wonder what those same Lobbyists are planning to maintain bully power on "The Hill"?

  • They are going to try. There will at least be some very strict rules and I hope more.
  • This is great news!

  • By the way, now would be a good time to send your bit to the DNC. It's our party again and we need to support them. They don't take money from lobbyist anymore so it's up to us. I am so proud.
  • Excellent news. The boyz club in Washington is going "ya right, big shot".

Let's build and unit and show ALL of OUR government this is the mandate of the people.

  • Wonderful!
This is indicative of the many ways that politics in the US CAN CHANGE.
Kudos to Obama and to Dean for following his lead.

  • The lobbyists will always be there per the constitutional phrase, “the right to petition/(lobby) the government”. BUT, we can also petition the government via our online donations.

Obama has raised in excess of $200 million online, which shattered the previous record of $50 million raised by Dean. WE THE PEOPLE can again shown all of those money grubbers in Washington who has the control.

Fight fire with fire. My $20 has joined others to voice my choice!

  • Could it be that a few simple men have turned convoluted lobbying on its head..? I, also, wonder what the backlash will be...the money grubbers aren't going to give up that easy street so easily...the pendulum will have to swing the other way first...

    Hang tough DNC...

  • Hillary should be ashamed. I mean ... wish her all the best etc. but she knew, WE KNEW, she was not going to be the nominee. But nooooooo ... she had to keep the divisive actions up.

    Yay to Mr. Obama.

Boo to Ms. Clinton (and her husband).

Let's move on ... it's time America enjoys some change.

  • This is really sad, we now know for a fact that McCain will win, I am a dem and so is my family. We won't vote for Obama, we actually looked at hsi plans and studied his ideology. Too bad America is so hung up on not looking like racists that they made another dumb decision! We just lost the white house, Obama is not capable of doing the job. He is too inexperienced. He doesn't have any real ideas just the same laws on the books and no new implementation ideas. Just a lot of talk, not plans and no way to create actual actions!!! Too bad no one has done their research into his philosohy of politics. So way to go, you just sold us all down river.
As far as how can anyone be against this man, read his website and thik about his plans, sounds similar to Machiavelli, read a book people, you're eyes will be opened and you'll see the path is not a good one. Obviously you don't understand people with more education and more experience in life, i/e/ older and wiser, know better.

  • Uhhhh, what exactly were you expecting from a candidate dcrc? Last time I checked, Jesus has never run for public office.

What candidate do you support over Obama? I swear to God if you say HIllary I'll kill you, THEY HAVE THE EXACT SAME POLICIES. Herp derp, looks like someone hasn't done their research. Sounds more like you get all your information and opinions from pundits and television instead. And McCain is EXPONENTIALLY worse than Obama. If you would switch from Hillary to McCain, die in a fire, seriously. Your ineptitude for understanding politics will not be missed.

And your ageist argument is pathetic, it was YOUR "wise" generation that elected and re-elected President Bush!

You are never going to wake up in the morning and say "YEAH! I AM SO PROUD OF MY PRESIDENT, HE IS GREAT." Not even FDR, TR, Lincoln, JFK or George Washington were perfect presidents, even in their best moments.

Stop being so hyperbolic, Obama is our generation's JFK. He's not perfect and there are three other candidates I would much rather have, but this is how our Republic works and a collective and cohesive effort to communicate to our representatives our will is the best we can do.

You're just a self-righteous faux intellectual who repeats talking points like they were your own opinions. Keep being spoon fed the opinions the Republican party wants you to hold so that you won't vote, they did the SAME THING in 04. The rest of us will go out and make a difference.

  • I just hope that the forces out there that do not respect the will of We the People (JFK, remember?) do not try and step in and do something stupid again, There are super delegates, and then there are the super elite, and then there are also the super secret power groups (Bilderburg, Illuminati, et al). If something happens to our choice for Prez, I for one hope we finally all "get it", that there is a small cadre of people with a lot of money, power, and an increasingly un-hidden agenda, and that we ALL do what needs to be done to 'form a more perfect union". We cannot afford to let it happen again-not at at this most important crossroads in American, and World, history.

  • Can it be that we'll actually arrive at public financing of elections? With as much power and money as is available on K Street, I doubt they will go silently into the night. Perhaps a good old-fashioned session of vigilante justice for the despots on K Street is in order. I would like it to be "bloodless" but wealth and power are addictive and there are many who will stop at nothing to attain either or both.

    We can hope.

    Thanks, MM!

  • It looks to me like Obama inspires and energizes people. That being the case, I believe Yes we will!
  • He does. I went to see him in Texas and he is a great speaker. I just hope he can break the shackles that Washington tends to put on newcomers with all the alliances and back room deals.

I also hope he can see that the insurance industry should NOT be granted a seat at the table on National Health Care. After 40 years of screwing the public, they don't deserve a chance at talking us out of a single payer system.

Allstate and several others are being sued right now for reducing the ratio of dollars paid out in claims versus the dollars taken in with premiums. seems, without any adjustment or lowering of expenses or number and size of claims, they instituted a new system that simply made the hassle to get paid GREATER than before.

It also seems that their training of adjusters indicated that people could get fast OR fair settlements but not BOTH.

If you argued or got an attorney, they actually told their adjusters to use "the Boxing Glove" treatment instead of the "good hands" treatment.

Settlements that a policyholder disagreed with took some 18 months to three years to settle and actually "wore down" some people who were not financially able to deal with the absence of a prompt payment.

Some form of the consulting paid for by Allstate was also found to be a part of State Farm's internal claims settlement protocol as well as that of Farmers Insurance and USAA.

Payments dipped per premium dollar collected from a high of 77.8% 5 years ago to about 50% after the "tough guy" claims payment procedures were initiated.

It seems the same consulting firms who "helped Allstate" also worked to help the others lower payments unfairly.

One market price survey after Katrina showed State Farm's prices in 2007 were IDENTICAL to the "market prices in another insurer's 2005 price database. (So identical , in fact, that the database had 10,000 IDENTICAL prices - a statistical impossibility.) It was just State Farm's way of trying to settle claims at two year old prices for construction and repairs.

I just hope Barack Obama is not swayed by the money insurers and individual insurance agents and executives already have and undoubtedly will continue to throw at him even without the cover of lobbyists.

And to thje guy who is a "Dem" and is voting for McCain, What about the term "Bush Lite" do you not understand, pal?

Your post had some of the most convoluted logic I've ever seen. You went to his web site and read - what? If you had really done that you must NOT have gone to McCain's - he voted WITH Bush 95% of the time!

I can't take an economy that is only 5% better than we have now! And neither can you!

  • Now that the stress from the primaries is done, I'm actually getting really excited about this election. I hope I don't get my hopes up for nothing, again.
