Boston Red Sox’s Coco Crisp was hit on the right hip by Tampa Bay Rays pitcher James Shields during the second inning of a baseball game Thursday night. Coco charged the mound, dodged a punch from Shields and landed a few of his own before being tackled to the ground by Tampa Bay catcher Dioner Navarro. A bench-clearing brawl between the Rays and the Red Sox ensued.

  • I am from the area, and I DESPISE baseball and the Red Sox, this is new this year for me, I was a huge fan in the past. I love the Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and even the Revolution. Why do you ask?

The icing on the cake was when they moved a Playoff Boston Bruins game to a secondary channel, and put a regular season game of the Red Sox on a local sports channel, that was IT for me. Disrespectful and unacceptable.

All these rick, corny, and brainwashed Red Sox fans, it's a cult, like nothing else in life matters. Disgusting.

And now these millionaires want to fight, what kind of message does that send to little kids? It's absurd!

Baseball is so boring and slow, game over!
  • So, in the UK if soccer players have a 'dust up' and the officials/sports association deal with them then no further legal action can be taken.

Can these guys be charged with assault or affray?

Or do we continue to teach our children that you can get away with pretty much any thing so long as you have money?

  • This is not surprizing , as the rays have no class and took many games that finally Crisp could not take anymore,,blocking the bases is a shady way to play, causes many wrong outs at base , because they can't even get there foot on the dam base,,so, so wrong , and many players from other teams have had this same problem,The rays coach should noticed this a long time ago, you can not say he had no idea,,he's just as bad, as they planned to have pitcher shields hit crisp at bat ,that could of been fatal,--shame on the Rays

  • finally...a punch is thrown in one of these baseball brawls...I don't advocate violence but in Baseball these always end up like a group of stay-at-home Mums pulling each others hair!
  • I'm not sure if he hit Coco on purpose...but if he did, he should have his money taken away

he is getting paid as a profesional athlete, as they all are, tooooooo much.

and to get paid to have girly squabbles while you're supposed to be working...get a life...

  • I have been a Red Sox fan my entire life, long before it was fashionable.

Ever since the curse was broke, the Sox have been turning into classless overpaid oafs. Maybe it is just perspective, but we seem to be half of every major brawl.

Between the loud bandwagon fans who bought a hat then ran it over with their car to give it an air of "I am trying not to look like a WASP" at any time after 2004, the roid-addled players, and the broadcast bogarting, the Red Sox are quickly turning into the new Yankees.

It will take many years for me to fully care about baseball again.

  • Great fight. Crisp dodged an epic punch.

  • sports where fighting is allowed are the best. could you imagine if it was allowed in football?

  • I wonder how long it will be before we skip the foreplay and bring back gladiators...

  • This sure makes MLB much more interesting but grown men shouldn't be fighting like this they should get expelled for the rest of the season.

  • Weird, the pitcher threw the first punch. Kinda validates the argument that it was an intentional beaning.
  • Oh wow what a bunch of dumb ass jocks. The king douche award has to go to the batter. He was hit by a baseball in the thigh, come on! If he still got in in him to run down the pitcher and dodge his punch then it couldn’t of hurt that much. If he had any sense to him he would have waited till the game was over, taken one of the numerous baseball bats lying around and clobbered the pitcher to mush out in the parking lot.

Oh wait that wouldn’t be acceptable. You’re only allowed to violently attack someone when the game is in play, silly me. So stupid, so disgusting. This is why I don’t watch sports anymore.

  • I use to play baseball growing up but then I switched to soccer at age 15. Soccer/futbol is the greatest sport ever. Anyone who's played sports in a really competitive league will get into some kind of fight verbal or physical during there career. If not your pretty lucky.

  • At least baseball players can fight, I don't know why basketball players are so inept in fighting.

  • Sports are just ritualized mini-battles anyway.
Let em duke it out. If they're gonna get paid millions of dollars to dance in a circle whilst rubbing their tummies, a few brawls and broken noses should be par for course.
At least it's fun to watch!
