Winter Soldiers are war vets that testify about the horrors of war that they witnessed and participated it. Seattle hosted the northwest regional Winter Soldiers testimony last Saturday, a smaller demonstration than the National testimony in Baltimore, MD in March. National organizers purposefully avoided traditional drum beating protests during the testimony in hopes to attract national "main stream" media attention. Their tactic was largely unsuccessful.
Seattle's testimony, on the other hand, was followed by Iraqi veterans leading the audience in a protest immediately following the testimonies. The march stopped traffic for over an hour in downtown Seattle and drew a large crowd as it passed Seattle's Pike Place Market. Organizers did not just want the audience to passively witness their testimony, they wanted to move the audience to action, the only way the war will eventually end, they believe.
