Stacey Fearnall raised more than $2,700 for a local fundraiser for cancer research. When she showed up to work earlier this week with her new look, the Nathaniels restaurant laid her off. Seriously, people?

  • Apparently, Fearnall is still on the payroll and she can return to work once she grows her hair back. The owner adding she was offered the summer off to spend time with her kids.

I think this is really crazy. I shaved my head a few days before my high school graduation (two years ago), and went into the workforce right after. It would have pained me if I didn't get the job offers I did based on my bald head.

It's not as if this look is inappropriate. The owner said he has certain rules about how the waiters should look, saying the men aren't allowed to wear earrings and everyone is required to keep their hair at reasonable length. If anything, this seems helpful seeing as you wouldn't have to worry about hair in your food. Ridiculous.

  • Aren't there laws against firing people because of activism or something close to that?
  • Yes, PTM, wouldn't that be discrimination? This was a case where the owner could have taken the high road and been sympathetic to this woman's situation. Some business owners just get so caught up in their bottom lines they forget about the human beings helping them get there.

  • The restaurant should be happy that they have such a caring employee who would shave her head to support her cause. I hope no one eat there all summer.

  • Stop and think about it from the restaurants point of view for a second, if you went to eat and thought for a second your waitress had cancer and was waiting on you, would you go back to the restaurant? Wouldn't you be uncomfortable thinking this poor sick person is serving me, would you not stop and think that the owners were horrible for forcing them to wait on you! It is more than some small businesses could handle and even if you had the chance to explain publically not everyone would hear it, and most people would not be rude enough to ask the server if she has cancer, they would assume.
