A 23-year-old Columbia University student was raped and tortured in her own apartment for approximately 19 hours.

BE WARNED--DESCRIPTION IS HIGHLY DISTURBING

(taken from NY times)

"Over many torturous hours, she had been repeatedly raped, sodomized and forced to perform oral sex, a prosecutor told a jury on Thursday. The accused, Robert A. Williams, 31, had doused the woman’s face and body with boiling water and bleach, forced her to swallow handfuls of pills and to chase them with beer, sealed her mouth with glue, and bound her wrists and legs with shoelaces, cords and duct tape, said the prosecutor, Ann P. Prunty. And now, Ms. Prunty said, he was asking the woman to gouge out her own eyes with a pair of scissors.

And so the woman, sitting on the floor of her studio apartment in Hamilton Heights and holding a pair of scissors between her knees — the blade pointing toward her face — tried to stop the suffering. She lowered her face to the blade, but turned her head at the last moment, trying to stab herself in the neck instead of her eyes."

This is only a part of what happened, but I feel the rest of the description is too graphic for some people, if you would like to know the rest, click the link, but be warned--the descriptions are highly disturbing.

  • A Claritin user reports,

"Major changes in behavioral patterns. I can see from reading this that I am not alone in this--these aggressive patterns are not listed anywhere on a side-effect list that I ever found. I have since discovered that I cannot take ANY allergy medications, including Zyrtec, Allegra or Clarinex. Doctors did not believe that my behavior was a result of this, but it was. So, I just tell them now not to prescribe it to me."

This is a typical comment. Now imagine this combined with poor nutrition combined with an antidepressant I will post below this if I get the time.

I know it sounds dumb but there are several reasons why the USA has such astronomically high rates of violence not seen in other countries...it is not one reason.

    1. Nutritional deficiencies-cut violence by 1/3 in Prisoners study:
    http://current.com/items/88893414_uk_prison_research_nu...

    2. Prescription Drugs and interactions-it is common in the USA for people to be on several kinds of OTC and Prescription Drugs at the same time.
    http://www.askapatient.com/viewtopratings.asp

    3. These combined with other factors like poor upbringing ..but my biggest concerns are the first two and the results of interaction are immediate.

For example here is the rating page for our beloved Claritin..it's bad stuff for many people and combined with poor nutrition and a cocktail of other drugs like antidepressants here is a source of terror like this rape and torture at Columbia could likely be..where is the coverage on what these violent criminals ate and took for drugs on a daily basis? Are they on one drug or a cocktail of drugs? Have they had a decent meal or are they subsising on coffee and Dunkin Donuts?

This man had a lengthy criminal record dating back to his childhood yet, for some reason, he was deemed fit by a court of law to live amongst society. I hate to say it, but rehabilitation doesn't work for some people. This man has proven that he does not deserve to live.

  • This is the sickest thing I have read in a long time. What the hell is wrong with people these days?
    merasyad
  • Drug interactions and poor nutrition have nothing to do with it. That's just an excuse, and a flimsy one at best. There's no drug, even a combination of drugs, and no home cooked meal that can erase human evil. Don't worry fuckbush, I'm sure he'll get his share of sodomy in the joint. He'd be out of prison for five years and still be pulling dick out of his ass! I'm with you on that though, but I'd just want ten minutes and a pipewrench

  • The bastard has no reason for living-
Just ask him what he wants for his last meal and fry 'em.

  • the glorification of these kinds of occurances in the media increases frequency. My girlfriend and I just had a conv about this last night when silence of the lambs was on, I can't help but feel that, in a (seemingly) distant way, people who are interested and intrigued by the people who do this are partly responsible for it happening at all. "Ted, just admit it..."

  • Lord what is this world coming to, she was just being kind and answering his FAKE question and she gets raped and tortured... sure does give one a bleak perspective on life.

  • Perfect example of a great candidate for capitol punishment.
Call it what you will, this guy needs to die.
    Humdrum
  • How did this guy get into the apartment building in the first place? The person that buzzed him in should be convicted of accessory to attempted murder.

Please cosmos give strength and courage to that poor woman.

  • Kill him.
    stephenthomson
  • I agree. Kill him.

We've gotta stop these kinds of evil cold. Do not tarry Justice.

  • I don't know why you said the rest was to graphic to describe, you described the most graphic bit. All that was said on the link was: "the suicide attempt failed and she was subjected to hours more of torture".

Anyway, this guy does deserve to die.
    superjake2004
  • They say that the death penalty is actually costly to the taxpayer.
I say, find the quickest cheapest way to get this guy off our planet.

    THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE !!!

  • what the F@#K!!! this is crazy. i feel really bad for her. to push a person to the edge of wanting to kill herself definitely deserves life in prison.
    bertoblock
  • I say it deserves a slit throat.
That's about as cheap and as merciful (considering what he did) as you can get.
It should be done outside, on dirt, as not to trouble a janitor to clean the blood off the floor.
    Humdrum
  • He only served eight years in prison for attempted murder? Is that not a huge red flag?

  • What a disgusting crime.

  • absolutely revolting. There is something to be said for women carrying self-defense measures, though for true sickos like this, it's hard to fathom how to defend oneself. The prosecution should seek the absolute harshest sentence possible.
    benjaminV
  • This is a monster, I don't care what happened in the past, he needs to be held accountable for what he did now.

The most merciful thing for this man is to put him to death.
    jubal
  • oh but we should rehabilitate him. I'm sure those who support such actions would fight tooth and nail to keep this one from dying. Unless they will go back on their word of life is life?

  • after reading the entire story - and visualizing this horrid scene and events - Robert A. Williams is absolutely a waste to human life.

  • The next thread in line after this one has to do with open carry and the protection firearms afford pwople. Many on that thread decry the use of firearms and say they feel safer where there are no guns. Note that this occurred in New York, a place where only the elite are allowed the right to defend themselves. The European style anti gun laws in NYC didn't seem to deter our miscreant now did they. In all probability they did prevent our victim from seeing that she would not be a victim.
The criminal should be summarily executed. End of story. .30 cal ammo is about $.50 to $2.00 or so a round depending on petigree. I would be more than willing to toss $5 in the pot to defray ammo expense if that was a problem.

  • Sorry but I dont care how anti-capital punishment, you are, this guy needs to die
    ctrl_alt_del
  • Yeah, it might be time to cull the herd. It really doesn't matter what the courts decide-if they don't wax him his fellow inmates will (just ask Jeffrey Dahmer). This Pr!(K's days are numbered.
  • douse him with gasoline and let him burn .
    malathion
  • It seems contrary to an illuminated nature to use a weapon to defend ones self, however, as this story demonstrates, if that woman had a gun visible to an attacker, he might of not attacked her.

The condition of the world necessitates the use of weapons of self defense. There are a lot of crazy people running around that have no conscience. They are like animals.

  • FUCK. This is by far the worst thing I have heard in my life. This man deserves to die. I don't care what political party you stand for, religion, peace and love, WHATEVER! This man deserves to die, period.

  • Lets just say death sentence isn't right for "everyone". He's clearly un-human, just slowly kill him. (That'd make us un-human too, so lets have a machine do it)
    ipodrulz
  • Please put this man in the bottom solitary confinement cell for life. That was the most disturbing event ever. I pray that she may one day recover.

  • once again, my idea for one bullet and or torture justice would save us all a lot of money while this guy sits on death row waiting to be executed thirty years from now

  • rehabilitate him?, FRAK HIM, I hope this guy disappears via a toilet in prison.

If this monster is allowed to live, there is no reason why he shouldn't be subjected to the torture he inflicted on his victim. He obviously has no respect for the life of another person, he's shown that he doesn't deserve his own. Put him under the prison.

  • I am appalled and deeply saddened for this woman. I can't even imagine how such trauma would effect someone. I pray that she will be able to come to terms with this and have all of the support she needs.

For this Mr. Williams: I hope that karma pays him back like no other.
