Are Zeppelins the new wave of Eco-Travel? One German company seems to think so...

  • this seems like a nice, romantic idea. with the capacity only being around 12 passengers, I feel like the zeppelin will only suffice for vacation and leisurely days out for the rich. It does not seem like it will catch on as major world transportation unless the capacity can increase.

but i'd still like a ride.

  • Not a solution for anything.

  • It needs an increase in capacity, and a decrease in danger... yeah, they're still semi-dangerous.

  • They don't blow-up anymore. If after 70 Years you don't get that right then something is definitely wrong....

BTW It has been a tourist attraction at Lake Constance for six years, not new at all. The Chinese bought at least one for construction work and that is probably the way of the future.

we are all hooked on hyper mobility. the Zeppelin will never catch up.

  • Final Fantasy becomes reality.

With America having the most tempestuous weather over any other country, this air ship wouldn't do us any good. Think of it flying in and around tornado valley or down near the Florida coast during hurricane season.

Great for countries that have calmer weather, not so for the us.

If they could make it wind resistant then they'd have something going there.

  • Call me crazy, but I feel this could be a viable solution for locations that need an alternative to bus commuting with limited land.

Take Raleigh, NC for example: all the main roads are a starburst out from the capital. All the other roads are basically circular and link between the five or so main roads that lead to city center. Due to the poor design strategy, setup for a tram or train system is difficult, not to mention the local municipalities do not want to share resources.

I think that, in lieu of a 3 hour /2 transfer bus ride to travel approx 25 mi one-way to get to work, a 20-30 minute airship ride would be enjoyable. At the very least, you could see what your countryside looks like every day.

  • this is a really cool idea, it just needs to be able to carry more people. It sounds like a much better alternative to the gas guzzling planes we have now

Except for crazed fanboys throwing people out the windows and saying "No ticket!".
