The iconic player of the '90s... who had been injury riddled throughout the 2000's finally reaches that magic number of 600 home runs in the first inning in Monday's game against the Florida Marlins...
It seems less spectacular that that this milestone didn't come at the suspicious Barry Bonds pace that's been glamorized before us these last few years.
But for everyone growing up watching Griffey, this was awesome to see finally happen!

If not for the steroid use by players of his generation, he would without a doubt been remembered as the best player of his time. The sweetest swing in baseball I've ever seen.
-
I don't know how many years my man has left but to me he represents the best of the cleanest athletes during the scourge of the Steroids Era. He absolutely owned the 90's and is a no contest, first-ballot Hall of Famer. Not only that, he has THE sweetest swing in major league baseball history (sorry Ted).
Congratulations Junior!
Next up: 610 HRs - 5th Place All-Time -
that sweet swing could have belted 50 more if he was healthy the whole time. 600 is still alot
Congrats Griffey! -
I hope he joins the Mariners again before he retires. Hopefully they'll be good by that time.

This is really a huge milestone and telling of the kind of player that Griffey Jr. is. Definitely among the best players in this or any era. To hit 600 home runs despite all the injuries that plagued his career is really something amazing.
-
Good for him. He would have had at least 100 more homers if he could have stayed injury-free in the last five years.
-
Im happy that he Reached 600 the honest way. I would put a huge asterisk beside Bonds and Sosa who are part of the 600 club.If Griffey didn't get hurt as bad as he did, he would of surpassed Hank Aaron by now, who I consider the real homerun champ even though he played in over 2500 more games than Ruth, but i digress. I hope griffey stays healthy and plays for a while longer.

What is the point of this story?
Seriously... get a life. Sports are a waste of time and resources, especially baseball.-

What an incredible milestone!
-
That's awesome. I saw him play for the Mariner's ages and ages ago - I'm amazed he's still out there swinging for the fences! Good for him!!

Fans of our generation will pour out the same "what if" questions of Griffey, "if only Griffey were healthy the second half of his career..." in the same way fans from previous generations wage the "what if Ted Williams didn't spend 5 years of his prime fighitng in the war," or "What if Mickey Mantle never busted his kneee..."
If he plays out his career for as long as Sr. did... maybe he could reach 700... Then we can only hope Ken Griffey III can enter the picture? -
I'm just impressed he recovered from the giganticism caused by Mr Burns's Nerve Tonic.

a special league should be created , in all sports , for chemically enhanced athletes - Marion Jones was given a sentence no white collar criminal would ever have been given - she was criminalized while every robbing jackass with an attorney on wall st. is let off with a hand slap - f--k this . UFC fights were once considered "unsporting" , until the UFC began eclipsing boxing, revenue wise .
