House Kills Impeachment Measure Against Bush!

The House has voted to send articles of impeachment against President Bush to a committee that is not likely to hold hearings before the end of his term.
By a vote of 251 to 166, House members dispatched the measure to a committee on Wednesday — a procedure often used to kill legislation.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi long ago declared the prospects for impeachment proceedings "off the table."

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, who ran for president earlier this year, insists that his bill deserves more consideration. Kucinich says that Bush committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" when he made a flawed case for going to war against Iraq.

No hearings are expected for impeachment articles already offered against Vice President Dick Cheney.

  • I just don't get it.

Why are the Dems so afraid of Bush? The man has approval ratings in the single digits! His war is deeply unpopular! The economy is tanking!

If we can't impeach the guy now (which is just an investigation!) then, my god, what is going on in the Democratic leadership?

  • and there's no doubt they disapprove of him as well. So they either have a longer term agenda that precludes impeachment now, or they simply have no spine. If it's the former, what would it be? and who are THEY anyway? what if they're all in it together and this 2 sides of a coin thing is just an illusion? is that possible?

  • I hate to think this way, but the simplest explaination for the Dems actions on the impeachment issue most likely boil down to 50 percent political cowardice (they irrationally fear blowback from voters during a major election season) and 50 percent they just don't give shit.

I think there's a reason we don't see either Nancy Pelosi nor Harry Reid (or many others) routinely giving fiery, impassioned speeches about justice, the rule of law, etc.

Some people run for elected office because are consumed with a burning need to serve their country while others (insert indifferent shoulder shrug here) couldn't think of anything that paid better and had such generous health benefits.

I really, really don't think either Nancy or Harry give a shit.

  • What? You mean to tell me that the people who enabled GWB in Congress don't want to impeach him? The truth is, this impeachment would get ugly and the Dems think they got off of the hook for their complicity. Democrats: The invertabrate party! Seriously their mascot should be a worm. Donkeys are smart and stubborn.

  • I agree. It's part cowardice and part indifference. The blow back from the Clinton impeachment is providing Bush a tremendous deal of cover. As if a blow job and the multitude of crimes that Bush has committed are the same thing. They don’t have the votes, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t of shouldn’t investigate.

  • That's a good point. It would be tough for the Dems to explain why they rolled over and went along with so much crap for so many years.

No wonder they are anxious to just forget the whole thing!

But there have to be at least a few issues -- or at least one -- wherein the Bush was all by himself.

The wiretapping thing maybe? Or did the Dems retroactively declare that all his past wiretapping in defiance of FISA was perfectly legal?

They have rolled over so often on so many critical issues it's hard to keep track of them all.

  • Spineless politcal HACKS that care nothing about the will of the people or about right and wrong.

They only care about keeping their sponsors (lobbyists) happy and getting re-elected.

They are all corrupt, I'm convinced.

  • Please don't give up. Tell everyone you know to push for impeachment, to contact local and state reps. This is SO important!!!

  • Now there's a surprise.

  • Vote the spineless ones out!

  • I think that the bill would have been more effective had it been proposed a year or two ago. The Dems probably saw the process as pointless now that it would only be several months before Bush must leave office anyway.

  • The point is not to remove him from office in a timely manner...it is too late for that. The point is to legally acknowledge his wrongdoing, and disgrace his presidency with impeachment.
    Becky6378
  • Raise your hand if you saw this coming. Did anyone think they would actually impeach Bush?

  • I don't think our country would survive a couple of months with a President Cheney, anyways.
  • *Yawn* somebody say peaches??
