could be a hoax or it could be true. ive got parts of the story, follow link for the whole article.
alot of you commented on the boobs,"AtheneWins" is not the greatest source for this matter, but this video is related to the discussion. the story is just "accompanied by a You Tube clip" (the video) pertaining to the story.
Paul Joseph Watson / Prison Planet | June 11, 2008

ISP’s have resolved to restrict the Internet to a TV-like subscription model where users will be forced to pay to visit selected corporate websites by 2012, while others will be blocked, according to a leaked report. Despite some people dismissing the story as a hoax, the wider plan to kill the traditional Internet and replace it with a regulated and controlled Internet 2 is manifestly provable.

"Bell Canada and TELUS (formerly owned by Verizon) employees officially confirm that by 2012 ISP’s all over the globe will reduce Internet access to a TV-like subscription model, only offering access to a small standard amount of commercial sites and require extra fees for every other site you visit. These ‘other’ sites would then lose all their exposure and eventually shut down, resulting in what could be seen as the end of the Internet," warns a report that has spread like wildfire across the web over the last few days.

The article, which is accompanied by a You Tube clip, states that Time Magazine writer "Dylan Pattyn" has confirmed the information and is about to release a story - and that the move to effectively shut down the web could come as soon as 2010.

People have raised questions about the report’s accuracy because the claims are not backed by another source, only the "promise" that a Time Magazine report is set to confirm the rumor. Until such a report emerges many have reserved judgment or outright dismissed the story as a hoax.

The first steps in a move to charge for every e mail sent have already been taken. Under the pretext of eliminating spam, Bill Gates and other industry chieftains have proposed Internet users buy credit stamps which denote how many e mails they will be able to send. This of course is the death knell for political newsletters and mailing lists.

The New York Times reported that "America Online and Yahoo, two of the world’s largest providers of e-mail accounts, are about to start using a system that gives preferential treatment to messages from companies that pay from 1/4 of a cent to a penny each to have them delivered. The senders must promise to contact only people who have agreed to receive their messages, or risk being blocked entirely.".

The original Internet will then be turned into a mass surveillance database and marketing tool. The Nation magazine reported in 2006 that, "Verizon, Comcast, Bell South and other communications giants are developing strategies that would track and store information on our every move in cyberspace in a vast data-collection and marketing system, the scope of which could rival the National Security Agency. According to white papers now being circulated in the cable, telephone and telecommunications industries, those with the deepest pockets–corporations, special-interest groups and major advertisers–would get preferred treatment. Content from these providers would have first priority on our computer and television screens, while information seen as undesirable, such as peer-to-peer communications, could be relegated to a slow lane or simply shut out."

Over the past few years, a chorus of propaganda intended to demonize the Internet and further lead it down a path of strict control has spewed forth from numerous establishment organs:

  • Oh wow, that would suck major balls. I wouldn't stand for that kind of bullshit. The world's richest men cannot keep on profiting off of every aspect of our lives.

  • that is really scary we as a nation need less regulation of free communication

  • Apparently the first step is to distract us with cleavage ;)

  • I don't want to believe that this is possible, but after Virgin Internet's recent announcement, and the announcement that many of the major internet providers will begin blocking access to child porn sites we may see this happen by 2012 or 2015

  • I agree "digitrash". Her boobs is why this could be a hoax... lol

Well, what shall we do to bring down big media conglomerates?

  • i believe the subtle message of her tits was to bring awareness to the fact that internet porn might be affected - and the hippies were included to make you want to see more of her rack , instead of listening to them .

  • Ok so the constant flashes of boobage from the girl is a means of keeping us intrested? Its not working. How exactly are the companies planning on accomplishing this? They have to realize that if they start charging for specific sites then they're going lose money. I dont think we as a society are actually going to pay for that. Verizon, Brighthouse, Comcast hell even AOL better wake up and smell the coffee. The librarys are going be rather happy about...

  • What's with the random boob shot? Supercleavage kind of makes me think its a hoax.
But whether it is or not, I think it's a good thing to be aware of.

  • im sorry about posting it with the girl with her "boob shot"
i was thinking about taking it out and leaving just the article, but i thought it would hold some value.

  • Given that the big cable and telecom companies are trying to eliminate net neutrality, this makes perfect sense. The only thing that doesn't make sense is the timeframe as it's highly unlikely to happen under a democratic administration. However if Republicans get control of congress again, this could become reality very quickly.

  • Hmmmm...A bunch of bearded scandinavians wearing dirty t-shirts and a reporter with ample cleavage...not the most trustworthy sources. The effect on the economy would be devastating. No chance this is true. Do you people ever check the sources for these stories?

  • malathion, since you are so good at analyzing.... what do you think about the cut in that tree behind the guy who spoke of porn? I think they are secretly loggers. I kept waiting for the tree to fall on the guy.

  • Alex Jones is not a credible news source as he is a conspiracy theorist wacko. The fact that he is showing up on this site is a disgrace to Current and destroys the integrity of this fine website and cable network. He is an insane, late night radio host who has built his "career" on conspiracy theories. Alex Jones, simply put, is a fraud.

Please stop using Infowars.com as a source people. It has no credibility and is nothing but FAKE conspiracies. If we allow this site to turn into Digg.com then it won't be taken seriously by anyone.

Net Neutrality is a serious issue, but this is not a credible source.
  • Wow, what size are those ?!?! They're so perfect, and natural looking. I didn't hear a word those nerdy looking guys said, the chick was too hot to ignore (subliminal messaging was great), but to censor the net sounds ludicrous. It's been effectively done in China though. But if you really want to piss Americans off outside of manipulating gasoline prices, start regulating their porn access. No politician will be safe.

  • Ok, we'll have to wait 'til "Time" publishes their article to be convinced. At the moment this story is more about that girls boobs than anything else. Why the hell do you cut to her at minute 3:25?
    jonathansnchz
  • yeah, i dont why it cuts to her at 3:25. sorry. i did not make the video.

  • This makes me sick to my stomach. The freeist medium, the most enlightening medium in human history and this..... It makes me want to cry. Money is the root of all evil.

  • It's just another way for them to limit free speech, free music, free news, free interaction. Soon we'll have to pay just to talk to each other.
  • I pray that this isn't true. It kinda seems to me that these guys are just trying to make a point. Maybe to make people aware of the probibility of this actually happening. Atleast I hope and pray. The regulation of the internet is akin to book burning and the fucking dark ages in modern times.

  • It's so silly when people say Alex Jones Infowars is not a credible source. First of all, the writer of the article is Paul Watson, and he is known for sourcing his articles. In this case, if you read the article, the article sources the corporations actual documents, so in other words this is no hoax.

Second of all, Alex Jones predicted 9/11 two months before it happened and that anthrax would be used to terrorize the public to push through a police state. Uhh, if you haven't noticed, that did happen. The guy is far more credible than you think, and certainly far more credible than the mainstream alphabet tv news networks.

  • all i know is that chick had some nice boobs
    clayjj05
  • Ok ok, so it may be credible, it may NOT be credible. We've established that.

I think we all know that companies could, and probably will try and do this, if they think they can get away with it that is.

What I do know is, this will never happen. Let them just try and make us pay to view their sites and I can promise you that no one will go.

Pay for the cow when I've been drinking free milk for the past decade? Yeah, can I see a show of fingers to that?

  • I already pay enough to have it in my home every month, and i struggle to make ends meet as is, I'm not made of FUCKIN money!!! I will be really upset if this goes down and will probably protest by not supporting this system of control. Most of the information is out here that is on the internet, it's just quicker and easier to get access to it, and will be missed.(Sites like this!) I'm counting on hackers and pirates to bring the new pay to access system down, if it does happen. I'm sick of capitalism!!! Profits for few, and leaving people out who are not rich!!! There have been talks of more control before, are WE going to let this happen??? I hope not!

  • Everyone on this site who posts a link to infowars should be forced to read "Them" by Jon Ronson

  • Dont the big ISP's have enough money as it is, why do they have to rape everything until it stops gushing money. I rather they just raise prices than have "Packages"

  • Isn't this type of thing the reason why Net Neutrality is / was a bad idea?
    jjeziorski
  • Most Cell Phone Providers already do this w/ their "Data Charges"...

Verizon charges $2 per megabyte of air time, and for some sites, charges by page views.

Why should we be surprised when they try to lay claim to the Internets' Tubes as well?
    nkovach
  • The conglomerates also want to prioritize locations on broadband, to improve the access, speed and performance of their associated sites;
thus relegating small, independent sites to the dungeons of the broadband.

That way they can also charge higher ad rates, b/c they will be able to establish "ratings", and sell advertisments off a rate card system like television and radio.

Obviously the sites w/ the highest "hit" numbers and page views will be those with the prime locations on the broadband - thus making them the most profitable.
    nkovach
  • If this happens, I can assure you there will be mass chaos and destruction the likes of which the world have never seen.

    Censorship is bad.

Tiered internet is already happening in nations such as China.

Western service providers will bow to their sponsors in time.

  • I dont think the intenet will be able to be regulated 100% as there will always be those crafty people, like hackers, who find cracks in the system whihc in this case wouldn't be a bad thing. Peer-to-peer communication is vital in todays society but now these big corporations want all the control over everyone's human-rights.

It's simple really: they dont want to regulate to 'protect the people', they want to regulate to surveillance the people.
